SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 ST1000DM005/HD103SJ 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: This drive is very quiet, offered tremendous value, has been error free for over 1.5 years, and is very good as the programs files directory in a SSD+HDD environment

Cons: There is not a SATA 6 32Mb cache version available...

Overall Review: This is/was the pinnacle of price/performance/size for over 2 years and very few problems have been reported. Recommended to anyone.

Pros: NewEgg speedy delivery! 3 year warranty (sort of). Everyone I've spoke with was really nice.

Cons: Bought 6 drives for raid, 2 out of 6 have already failed (this isn't that big of a deal by itself, stuff happens. RAID is fault tolerant, no data loss). One drive is not recognized at all and will not stay spun up, the other drops out with errors.

Samsung claims drives are "OEM" and sold "as is" with no manufacturer's warranty. NewEgg claims Samsung should support their product.

2TB drives are only a little more money...

Overall Review: The process so far:

Suspected 2 bad drives, swapped cables (no help), swapped drives into a different computer and the drives still fail. Ran HD checking software on the one drive the system actually recognizes - drive health = 8%

Went to Samsung website and entered drive serial numbers, site returns code 101 OEM drive no support available.

Called Samsung they direct me to the website. I tell them about the code 101 and they direct me to NewEgg.

NewEgg directs me back to Samsung claiming Samsung should support their drives. I'm instructed to get a transaction code and e-mail NewEgg with the number along with other info.

I call Samsung again and I'm refused again but this time I ask for a transaction code.

I email NewEgg with the information and currently wait for a response.

I'm sure this will eventually get resolved but the finger pointing/runaround is very frustrating. The one star rating is for the runaround, not the drive failures...
