Great NAS/DAS HDD

Trusted BrandTrusted ReliabilityPerformance see overall review.WarrantyRelatively quiet

I purchased this HDD in March 2021 along with an WD Ultrastar 18TB. In my Raid boxes a Drobo and Synoloy I have started making a point of trying to by different brand / models HDD's as I add storage just in case a defect in one line will not destroy my entire storage array. I have found the Pro series to be slightly noisier than the Plus / original regular RED's and a bit quieter than the Ultrastars. Heat is kind of similar based one feeling the front of the HDD while is mounted in its RAID enclosure. The first thing I did after this hard drive arrived was check CrystalDiskInfo to check the drives specs and make sure it was all good. It had a power on count of 1 (since I powered it on) and everything else was perfect and new. Hard drive Speed Compare: All testing was done with an external enclosure using CrystalDiskMark and a direct file copy (about 4GB) to the disk from an internal SSD.WD Red Pro 18TB: Seq Read 267 MB/s, Seq Write 266 MB/s, Copy 260 MB/sWD Ultrastar HC550 18TB: Seq Read 269 MB/s, Seq Write 268 MB/s, Copy 274 MB/sWD Red Plus 10TB WD101EFAX: Seq Read 218 MB/s, Seq Write 219 MB/s, Copy 80 MB/sWD Ultrastar HC510 10TB: Seq Read: 259 MB/s, Seq Write 263 MB/s, Copy 250 MB/sWD Red 10TB WD100EFRX: Seq Read: 200 MB/s, Seq Write 116 MB/s, Copy 186 MB/sSpeed comparison for reference. This is just a small selection of my hard drives that I have owned and have tested.I think I will be very happy with this expansive HDD.

TOP CRITICAL REVIEW
WD is a GREAT Company with GREAT Products ... However

I, Have used Western Digital for Several Years & I, Trust thier Products & Services.

My ONLY Suggestion is a Better Testing Procedure to Ensure that the Drives they or any other Development Company Offer to Customers are in-fact Overall Performing as Specified.

Right of the Box., the Hard Drive, FAILED ..

This Drive was Filled with Bad Sectors, & couldn't Be Read by the Windows 11, O.S., nor through Disk Management or BIOS Setup, tried Multiple Connections, Ports, each Time - FAILED .. During Multiple Trials of Copying a Single 300-500MB File, the Drive, would Freeze, after 30 Seconds, after which the Transfer Failed, Because the Destination Drive Couldn't Be Located, or Assigned.

Several Tests were Performed, for Speed, Reliability, Stability etc - each Test - FAILED.

Upon a System Restart (from a Complete Windows Shutdown..) the Drive would Grind, & Vibrate, Several Beeps were also Heard, During Startup, indicating the Drive, was trying to Be Accessed by the System, But FAILED - in the end - VERY Disappointed to say the Least.

The *BRIGHT SPOT ..
is How Helpful Newegg was in making Sure, that a Return Label, was Sent to Me, Quickly & that a Refund Requested by Me, was accepted. Hopefully will be Processed just as Quickly & the Total Cost, being Returned to Affirm.

Without Newegg's Support in this Manner, I, would Be more at a Loss.

The Drive, is Now, on it's way Back to Newegg - Thankyou for ALL that you've Done, for me, Newegg - I, Did Order another WD Drive, (12TB) it will Be Shipped on Monday, May 13, 2024 - Fingers Crossed that this one, Works, as expected., when it arrives.

**POINT:
This issue, is not the Fault of Newegg, it's from Western Digital - I, Have not Lost ANY Respect for either Company in this Matter .. What Happened, with this Drive, is RARE & can Happen., that shouldn't Sway You from Buying from either Newegg and/or Western Digital.
Regards.,
