This is a perfect switch for anyone who wants to wire their home or small business and needs a certain level of flexibility and manageability. You get a solid steel constructed switch, internal power supply, included rack mount brackets, and little sticky feet for desktop applications. The general feel of the unit is extremely solid. It feels like a well-made enterprise switch made by any of the big corporate network device manufacturers. It is passively cooled and doesn't seem to radiate much heat. However, if you intend to populate many of the ports and transfer high volumes of information it may be a different story and you may need a higher tier switch. The switch offers a "smart" interface that allows you to connect and manage basic switch functionality. It allows for VLANs, Quality of Service priorities, and several other basic functions that aren't available in a non-managed switch. This is accessed through a web interface or by downloading the TP-Link Easy Smart Configuration Utility. I found the utility much easier to use and connect to rather than the web interface. It offers the same functions, but in a cleaner looking interface. It also allows you to store connection information for multiple TP-Link smart switches. For a Small/Medium Business in many cases the IT professional(s) wear many hats and should have a pretty easy time configuring this switch to fit their needs.
