In Desktop External Hard Drives

This is the second one of these I've bought. Lot's O storage. Run fairly cool. Nice price from Newegg

Massive storage, itty-bitty desk space. Equivalent to throwing a pile of DVDs into a cave - big room, little files. Plug and play functionality.

So far so good. I used Western Digitals drive diagnostic tool to perform a full disk scan which took 20 hours. It completed simply stating that it passed so I assume no bad sectors. It is a quiet drive and only gets slightly warm. Transfer speed averaged 200 MB/s when copying a single multi gigabyte file directly from my internal M.2 SATA. The drive takes approximately 10 seconds to spin up and initialize so it will delay POST if this matters to you. Personally I don't mind.

Cheap, only high capacity drive I've bought that is quiet, easy to remove the 3.5" drive to use internally.

Plug and play. Worked perfectly with the PS5

I was a little concerned that another review said it was loud and ran hot. Maybe that was just a defective device or something funny about the setup - this runs fine, just like other WD hard drives I've purchased. It's silent and super fast. I run Ubuntu on my desktop but used NTFS so it will work smoothly with my windows laptop. Transferred 1 TB of data in under an hour, totally silent, no noticeable heat omitted. Would recommend.

Previously very good price per tbs Yet to have a failure with this series of hard drives from seagate

Easy setup, very very very quiet, transfer data pretty quick too 7200 rpm drive @ 8TB external

Plug and play on Windows 7 SP1 without problems. Do scan all surface to check for any bad sectors took about 12 hours and nothing find. It come in format is ExFAT. It can format to NTFS if I want to. I'm so happy for this new hard drive for backup. I heard this can work fine with PlayStation 4, Xbox One and future new gaming system to support this bigger hard drive for store huge games library collection. In near future, when Microsoft stop support Windows 7 then I will switch to two different operating system are ReactOS and Linux. Hope both OS work with this hard drive. WD company must support other OS like Linux and other OS in near future.

- Sleek looking external hard drive. - Power brick isn't too large, points downwards. Standard 12V - 1.5A. - Despite what people say this hard drive enclosure CAN be shucked. Meaning you can remove the bare internal hard drive from the enclosure and put the hard drive into your PC for use (no encryption). Unless you are a ninja, this will VOID your warranty.** - There IS software & hardware encryption IF you purposefully want it. - This is Western Digital quality, so the drive should be reliable.

Despite WD saying that this hard drive requires Windows or Mac, this external HDD works just fine on Linux (tested on Debian 9).

As described and fast shipping. Newegg mail carrier threw this expensive and delicate hard drive at my house and onto the front door, no care what is inside. Its really a disaster.

I'm not into the third generation of Buffalo DriveStations. I use them in fours for backups; two alternating and two alternating off-site. I alternate two on-site so that if there's a drive failure, I'll still have a relatively recent backup. That has never happened with DriveStations. I've bought new DriveStations because, when I get a new computer, it inevitably has a larger disk. The Axis Velocity drives are nearly silent (you can hear disk seeks sometimes) and take full advantage of USB 3.0. With the two drives I just bought, I backed up 257 GB in less than 90 minutes per drive, using AES encryption, which slowed the process.
