A cinch to install: I just need to connect it to a USB 3.0 port, find an electrical outlet, restart my computer, and bob's your uncle - the drive installed immediately. It'w about the height of a paperback novel, and about as wide as a long novel (think of Tolstoy's War and Peace), so it fits perfectly on a shelf. Plus it is a nice looking unit, and very quiet. 12 tb is not an insignificant amount of space, but I am assembling a collection of digitized early printed books (really early: between 1460 and 1800), and it will take a major effort to fill this drive.

My Synology NAS never has enough internal disk space; a couple of external USB drives help bolster its storage capacity. I've been using Western Digital drives since 1994 and have had very few failures. They mostly just get retired when larger drives take their place.
