Reviews
The CS82U PS/2-USB KVM Switch is a desktop control unit that allows users to access two computers from a single KVM console (PS/2 or USB keyboard and mouse, and VGA monitor). In addition, CS82U comes with ATENs new Video DynaSync™ technology, which eliminates boot-up display problems and optimizes resolution.
Setup is fast and easy; simply plug cables into their appropriate ports. There is no software to configure, no installation routines, and no incompatibility problems. Since the CS82U intercepts keyboard input directly, it will work on multiple computing platforms.

The ATEN CS84U is a 4-port KVM switch that lets one keyboard, mouse, and VGA monitor control up to four computers, making it suitable for users managing multiple PS/2- or USB-equipped systems with VGA video.
Recommended For
- People switching between up to four desktop PCs at a fixed desk who want to share one VGA monitor, keyboard, and mouse; ATEN supports selection by front-panel button, hotkey, or mouse.
- Users maintaining older or mixed-generation computers with VGA video and USB or PS/2 keyboards and mice who need a single console for several systems.
- IT or lab operators who need to view or access several VGA-equipped machines from one workstation, including systems that use supported Windows, Linux, Mac, or Sun platforms.
- Users replacing a basic KVM setup who value hotkey switching and a bus-powered unit; one CS84U owner review describes using keyboard shortcuts to switch between PCs and running the switch without a power adapter.
Real-World Use Scenarios
- At a desk with up to four VGA-equipped computers, a user can share one monitor, keyboard, and mouse, then switch control to the computer they need without moving those peripherals.
- On a repair or testing bench, a technician can connect several VGA computers to one console and select each machine from the switch, making it easier to work through them without swapping the monitor, keyboard, and mouse cables.
- In a small office or equipment area with several compatible computers, one person can use a shared console to access them one at a time, reducing the need for a separate monitor and input devices at each station.
- Where older PS/2-based computers sit alongside USB-equipped systems, a user can connect compatible machines to the same console and switch between them, instead of maintaining separate keyboard-and-mouse setups.
- When a user needs to check several connected computers in sequence, Auto Scan can cycle the console through their screens; selecting a port returns control to that computer.
