Overall Review: Doesn't work well with Exact Audio Copy (primary purpose I got the drive). Works, but lots of errors on pretty much any disc I throw in there and takes forever to rip. If you want to use EAC, look elsewhere.

Pros: No problems at all out of this drive. Doesn't seem to be picky about which brand of blanks you use. Burns fast, cheap price tag. great value overall.

Pros: Good while it lasted - approximately 11 months.

Cons: Requested repair or replacement under warranty. Provided date of purchase (less than 1 year). ASUS replied "... that serial number is no longer under warranty". Reminded them that the product page and their own published warranty terms clearly states that warranty is from date of purchase, not contingent upon a serial number "date". Then a different ASUS rep said they would replace it at no charge. Shipped defective unit to them via UPS Ground and tracking number showed they received it 3 days later. Then it took 11 days for delivery of a replacement DVD burner. I tested it first in a brand new PC - and it failed! Then tested it in my year-old PC - and it failed again. No signal - no data - not recognised. Tried different SATA cable and different power leads in both machines but no output at all when trying to read/read/play a variety of discs. Quickly installed a Samsung DVD burner and it worked perfectly. So, ASUS first denied my valid warranty claim. Then ASUS took a long time to replace it after i challenged their refusal. And, finally, the ASUS replacement unit doesn't even work.

Overall Review: Data connection lost. Drawer opens and closes and disc spins but no longer recognised by Windows or in BIOS. Removed it and tested in a different (new) PC with same negative result regardless of which cables i used. This is very disappointing. Over the years ASUS motherboards, video cards, routers, wi-fi adapters and other products have been in frequent use in our PCs and home network. However, when the time came that i needed some good customer service they blew it completely!

Pros: Nice drive, they just work every time. It came with basic software even though it says Bulk (Nero Essentials 10 is great for your average user) and reads fast as well as writes fine.

Overall Review: I thought for sure I had reviewed this drive before, but perhaps it was another Asus with a similar model number. They have all been good and are the perfect value - good price & the highest rating in its class. 5 eggs was a no brainer on this... Modder aesthetics tip: The face plate on this drive is black but has a dull finish, as most do. If you want a closer match to a glossy (or even semi-gloss) black case, remove the face plate and tray cover and spray them with a coat of Rustoleum Crystal Clear Enamel Spray - a "clear coat" for your optical drive face (and your USB card reader's face, for that matter). It works great and made this drive a perfect match with the Lian Li case I installed it in.

Cons: 1. Won't read ANY CD or DVD 2. Died after a short 2 months of light use 3. Poor low quality drive that cannot stand up to the lightest use.

Overall Review: I mainly use my DVD drives for ripping of CDs and DVDs about 4 discs per week. Meaning that I had a chance to rip a max of 32 before this drive died. Because of the cost, not worth the hassle of getting an RMA and shipping (at cost to me) the unit back. I won't buy an ASUS drive again.

Pros: Easy install. Quiet operation. Reliable. Affordable.

Overall Review: This is my 4th of this model. The price is affordable and over more than 2+ years not even one glitch or problem of any kind. This is a recommend to buy. If I need another, I will buy this model again.
