4 out of 5 eggsUpdated Review

Pros: Easy set up, Good Size, light, comfortable, Perfect for HTPC

Cons: Cheap and un-removable trackball

Other Thoughts: I love this keyboard to death and use it every day. The Set-up was non-existent (If I remember - I've had it so long). I think I've changed the batteries maybe once or twice in 18 months, and I guarantee I use it more often than pretty much anyone on earth.. I just came back to say that I've had the same trackball problems as everyone else, but I always just thought of it as a cheap, loose, trackball. Today, I just cleaned the heck out of it with alcohol, only from the outside, just turning and washing and turning and washing etc. for about 20 minutes, and it works (for now) like new. Left and down still work better than right and up, so that's just a manufacturing problem with the trackball design.

So, if you don't feel like taking the entire thing apart, including the tape you have holding the rubber edge onto the right sight (like me haha), try giving it a THOROUGH rubdown with alcohol, and see if that makes a difference before you get out the screwdriver.

The pros far outweigh the cons on this little monster. This is from someone who has used it 8+ hours a day for over a year and smokes in the house, and has dogs. I wouldn't "game" on it, but it's perfectly fine playing silly things like Scribblenauts or The Sims on your giant TV. As long as the trackball is not making you really work for it.

4 out of 5 eggsOverall good keyboard.

Pros: Good quality keyboard. Good range. Excellent battery life

Cons: The trackball sometimes gets sticky and hard to move due to dust and natural oils I just get a wet microfiber cloth and it seems to free up the trackball.

Other Thoughts: It is good to replace the ball bearings every six months or so and clean out the trackball area I use 2.5mm ball bearings and they are very cheap online. Makes it glide like a lizard on ice.

5 out of 5 eggsGood htpc keyboard

Pros: I have 2 of the keyboard. They range is good. Works from across the house. Compact but the keys are normal size. Intergrated mouse makes it ez to use when away from desk. Great for use as a living room or bed room computer.

Cons: Rubber comes off the side. doesn't really hut anything but makes the keyboard feel jagged.

Other Thoughts: I wouldn't replace this with my gaming pc but works great with a media center or when using a regular mouse is a hassle.

3 out of 5 eggsNice Design

Pros: Design is easy to handle, the mouse buttons are nicely placed, but away form the trackball.

Cons: The trackball. At first it skipped or did nothing. Cleaning accomplished very little improvement. Finally retired the keyboard because of lousy trackball.

Other than the trackball, the keyboard is great.

Other Thoughts: Still looking for a decent replacement. I'm hoping to buy one tonight. The two replacement attempts are OK, but I bought pad keyboards hoping for usability, but the trackPADs are very difficult to use as they frequently drag things when cursor movement was desired. I think that the problems with the pads is the software, but I am not in the mood to write anymore drivers, I'm retired.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks most of the time really well

Pros: Small, but large enough for my fat fingers
Everything is on the board
Great range

Cons: The track ball does not go up and to the right very well

Other Thoughts: I am usually pretty picky on my keyboards. This is the not the very best feeling, but it is decent.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat for HTPC

Pros: Perfect for HTPC.
Full size keyboard.
Track ball/mouse buttons built in.
On/Off switch
Range

Cons: Trackball has too much play in the socket.

Other Thoughts: This keyboard/trackball combo is the best thing I have found for my HTPC in the living room.
Tried several other products but each of them left me wanting for more or always having to do something to make them work or the range would not reach where my chair was sitting..
This one is just the right size and the range reaches all the way across my living room (about 15') so I can sit in my chair and control the HTPC. Wife loves the full size keyboard so she can use it for work or look things up while sitting on the couch.
If you have a HTPC that double as a living room PC then this is certainly what you want.
Only problem i found is when i hold the keyboard vertical the trackball moves around in the socket making mouse movements after I stop moving it. Minor annoyance.

3 out of 5 eggsCould be better...

Pros: -Very Comfortable to use in your lap on the couch (where I'm typing this now)
-Thumb trackball is great when it is clean (More in CONs)
-Scroll wheel is in a good spot (when it works More in CONs)
-Lite weight, next to nothing
-Keys feel good to type on
-Price
-Batteries last forever
-Tech support is helpful (more on this also)

Cons: -Trackball eye gets dirty and cant be cleaned
-Scroll wheel works when it wants too, erratic more often then not
-USB Receiver dongle almost wants to be in "line of sight" to work (I have a USB extension with the dongle on the wall above TV)
-Rubber side trim falls off in first 2 weeks (I have owned 2 of these and it was the same for both)

Other Thoughts: I have had 2 of these KBs, each with its own issues.. I like the shape of it, very comfortable to use the mouse TB and click at the same time.

The First one:
After the first 30 days it was always needing the trackball cleaned due to it feeling rough or not moving the pointer. Cleaning it is almost impossible bc you have to tear it apart to clean it (13 screws, 15mins, 1 Q-tip). Putting a removable retainer on top that holds the ball in would solve this issue. Rubber side bumpers/trim fell off very quickly, The place they put it is right under your palms when holding the KB using the mouse. I had a problem with the spacebar, called IOGear and they mailed me a replacement which was nice. In the end it lasted less then one year.

The Second one:
Well obviously I liked the first KB (when it worked) enough to buy another as replacement. The second one has its own issues though.. First the rubber side trim was gone again in 2-3 weeks, it just starts peeling and then its so bad you tear it off. This unit has a major scroll wheel issue that the first one did not. It is super erratic, uncontrollable even. I called IOGear and the only option was to send them the KB and they would send me a replacement. This option was unacceptable, I would be without a KB or I would be buying another to use until it arrived. I have just dealt with the silly scroll wheel b/c unlike the first one this one seems to have a self cleaning trackball (I have only had it open to clean once in 5 months).

In closing..
Would I buy it again?
If I cant find another with the same layout and trackball, yes!

Do I think there is room for improvement?
Most Deff

Should you buy one?
Yes, its a decent KB, Price is ok, maybe you will get one that works perfectly all around..

Now lets see if I can scroll down to click submit :D

4 out of 5 eggsno better or worse than price indicates

Pros: Perfect for htpc usage. I like that shoulder trackball rather than a track pad. Good price.

Cons: I can live with its problems, but be aware
Keys are a tad mushy
the trackball is a tiny bit imprecise at fast speeds
I barely get 12 ft distance in real world environment.

2 out of 5 eggsUnsatisfctory

Pros: Wireless

Cons: The most important input device on this keyboard is the trackball. The implementation of the trackball makes this keyboard unacceptable. The trackball is intermittent and sticky. It will fail to move the pointer at all until you jostle the keyboard around. Then it will work in fits and starts. It is often difficult to locate the cursor because it's small and not responding to trackball input.

The keyboard also has trouble communicating with the HTPC computer from a distance of 14 feet. At 6" you can get response and it will stay connected as you walk away. But at 14' it is random if you can control your PC at all.

Other Thoughts: Overall, this keyboard does not meet expectation. At this price point, it should have been flawless. As a minimum, brand new out of the box, the trackball should have worked smoothly every time.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for your experience. Please email us with a phone number to contact you at support@iogear.com. We will be more than happy to contact you with quality service and process an RMA. Once again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR.

5 out of 5 eggsnice keyboard

Pros: fantastic button/trackball layout, battery life is excellent!, i've never had a problem with range at 20+ feet.

most comfortable wireless combo unit ive used. perfect size. girlfriend and mother adapted quickly to layout and trackball (which shocked me)

worked out of box with my linux distros... no setup needed.

Cons: trackball eventually becomes useless over time...

Other Thoughts: it would be nice if you could remove and clean the trackball.

2 out of 3 units trackballs stopped working after a couple years of heavy use. (my 3rd unit has much lighter use and still works properly)

we abuse these things. they've been dropped, kicked, thrown, tossed off the bed many times. spilled stuff on them. usually the batteries just fly out on crashing...you put them back in and youre back in business... (batteries are taped down now!)...i sure as heck got my moneys worth out of these things.
