5 out of 5 eggsSYBA Low Profile PCI-Express 1394B/A Firewire Card

Pros: This product installed into my Windows 10 machine and was recognized and installed correctly. There is a part inside to allow the card to be used in the full size slot also if the need arises.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsWorks fine

Pros: Reasonable cost.
Used for several years without any issues.
TI chip-was needed for my specific app

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I ordered this for a specific reason: I am an amateur radio operator and use Software Defined Radio as one of my main radios. (These are radios where much of the usual radio functions are controlled not by the hardware-think volume knob for example-but in the software.) This can be finicky to setup and operate. The hardware portion of this setup requires a Firewire connection to the computer and they highly recommended getting one based on the TI chip. I ordered it, installed it when it came and it's worked fine since. Not a single issue. I am using it to operate my Flex-3000 transceiver as I write this.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks flawlessly for audio

Pros: I can not stress this enough, this card uses the Texas Instrument chipset. Guaranteed to work with all firewire audio hardware.
Plug and play simplicity.
Good capacitors.

Cons: None. Just plugged it in and it worked flawlessly.

Other Thoughts: Bought this PCI-E firewire card to connect my Focusrite Saffire Pro firewire audio interface to my computer.
A word of warning to anyone looking for a firewire card. BE SURE that whatever PCI firewire card you choose uses the Texas Instruments chipset or the card WILL be unusable for audio. Texas Instruments firewire cards are guaranteed to work with all audio interfaces. No audio dropouts and zero issues. On Newegg just look at the PCI-E firewire cards and if you see a outline of the state of Texas on any of the chips your golden.

5 out of 5 eggsSYBAPCIe 1394 Firewire Card

Pros: Works great, bought this card as it has a 9 pin header which allows me to attach and use my Computer Case's built in Firewire input port when I connect my DV Camcorder for video editing without having to move my case to plug into the back of my PC.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsWorks well with Drobo 2nd gen and Ubuntu 14.04

Pros: Works out of the box with Ubuntu 14.04, plugged my old Drobo 2nd gen and works great. Much faster than USB 2.0.

Cons: None so far.

1 out of 5 eggsInconsistent Product

Pros: It's cheap. It sometimes works perfectly fine.

Cons: We use this card in a product we sell at my company. So we buy 10+ cards a year. The major con is that the product consistency is horrible. One card could work perfectly fine blasting 780x580 video at 14bit Mono and 25 frames per second and another crashes every couple of hours. Obviously, at 271 Mbps we're using quite a bit of the bandwidth of the interface, which may be part of the problem. But, some work perfectly fine.

The card is very picky about cables too.

If you want rock solid guaranteed performance, I would recommend to look elsewhere. If you get any errors, it's the probably the card, return it.

Other Thoughts: Wasted too much time trouble shooting issues with this card. Not worth the money we are saving.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

The issue of random disconnects may be caused by the card being loose in the PCIe slot it is in.

Confirm the profile bracket is screwed in properly and stable within the PCIe slot.

In the Motherboard BIOS settings confirm that PCIe frequency setting is set to Auto.

Try using a different Firewire cable as well if possible.

5 out of 5 eggsSImple Installation - Immediately Working

Pros: Works flawlessly with the Win 7-64 supplied driver. Windows lists it as a, "Texas Instruments 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller."

Gracefully fits into the PCI-Express x1 slot on the Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD5, without contacting the north bridge heat sink. There is approximately 1-2 mm clearance between the SYBA and the heat sink.

Cons: The half height case bracket is installed and has to be swapped out with the supplied standard height bracket.

Not using it, but keep in mind that the internal Firewire header is shared with the output on the back plane. Not sure which connector, but other people who need the internal connection have observed undesired behavior. If the plan is to use the internal and external connection simultaneously, please closely look at this.

Other Thoughts: I tried the Unibrain universal driver, but the My Book drive lost the ability to show HFS+ partitions using the TransMac software. Sometimes I have to move files from my MacBook Pro to Windows. Being unable to read HFS+ through Windows is a negative on the Unibrain implementation. After testing Unibrain, I removed it and Windows brought back its internal Texas Instruments driver. Works flawlessly again.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks With Flex Radio PowerSDR!

Pros: I have been using one of these with my Flex Radio 5000.
The TI chipset seems to be completly compatible with PowerSDR ver 2.5.3 running at 192k sampling rate. I have tried other card that would not perform nearly as well or at all.

Cons: Internal firewire 400 header is shared with an external port.
This did not matter to me since I only needed the external port.

Other Thoughts: This card is a real performer. I have heard not to use the supplied drivers and let windows install the driver.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent!

Pros: Works great in my X79 MSI motherboard... using Windows 7 64-bit.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I needed a card with a header because my motherboard did not come with a 1394 header. So this worked out great... I can now plug my cable in the front of my computer when needed.
