3 out of 5 eggsDecent board with bad physical design

Pros: It's very stable and comes with WiFi.
DualBIOS has saved me enough times that I won't consider a board without it

Cons: Way too many connectors on the top edge of the board, very difficult to manage cables well.
Socket is way too close to the PCIe and RAM slots. My memory isn't that tall, but my cooler touches both the GPU and RAM.
There appears to be an issue where the SATA connections will stop working for a minute or so - potentially to an overheating south bridge.

Other Thoughts: The internal layout of the board would be much improved by rotating it all about 90 degrees so that the connections are now on the front instead of the top edge of the board.

2 out of 5 eggsSeemed nice, but isn't.

Pros: There's plenty of pros. Like dual HDMI + one DVI, many USB ports. Wireless and bluetooth on half-mini PCI-E.

Cons: The SuperIO is proprietary from ITE, IT8620E. It was an headache to be able to get the temperatures, and fan control is impossible through it. The northbridge is overheating very very badly. At first i thought it was a wrong sensor reading from the ITE chip, at it went to 65°C in a 20°C environment. I bought a tight casing with an A10-6700 (65W TDP) to be able to have quite minimal ventilation. To be sure i took my laser temperature reader, and the temp i get from the SuperIO is right, it can go up to 75°C in summer. Even when i got a fan pointed on it, there was no significant temperature drop, as there's the USB 3.0 header and SATA cables blocking it from getting airflow from the side and from above. The responsible is the extremely cheap heatsink on it. Take a look at all other brand A88X northbridge heatsinks, it's bigger, taller, and a lot better quality. I even removed it and changed the thermal pad to make sure it wasn't just a bad transfer from the chipset to the heatsink, and it's not. I had no help whatsoever from Gigabyte, they told me it's normal and it passed the design quality control. I looked around for a better heatsink (thicker and taller) to put on it, but there's nothing i could find, i had to go to the extent of buying a 25x25mm fan and make a bracket to attach it above the northbridge, to then make a molex plug for it. Even with that, it's significantly high, as ambient temp is 20°C, my processor is at 22°C and the northbridge at 42°C.

That design flaw really killed it for me, and i think it's the cause of the bad longevity reviews. If you already have it, use a software able to read the temperatures, find the good entries and watch them closely to prevent overheating. If you're thinking on purchasing, you might want to go see what other brands have to offer in terms of A88X mini-itx. It's not like this motherboard is cheap or something, i spent 160$ for it, and even at 80$, it would be too much.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent product, small yet powerful

Pros: FM2+ support right out of the box, WiFi works well even without the attached antenna. Recognized my 1866 memory just fine and my 7700K, attached video card and away I went with gaming.

Cons: Price is a bit high for a FM2+ board, but it's mITX and you pay for it.

Other Thoughts: I don't understand how others have such issues with their boards, perhaps they don't read the manufacturer specs or supported hardware, either way I haven't had any issues and mine has been running for over half a year just fine.

5 out of 5 eggsGigabyte GA-F2A88XN-WIFI

Pros: This board is up and running fine for over a year. No problems with installation of Win7 64bit. Using a Kaveri A10-7800 4/8 core and 8Gig of ram, no video card and a 120Gig Corsair SSD boot drive. Games run fast and smooth at 1920x1800 with full options. I don't run bleeding edge games with poor graphics performance. WiFi runs fine, but I use wired. No issues with BIOS or UEFI or booting.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I have used ATX motherboards and M*I motherboards in the past, but none of those have the many options on this board. The deciding factor was the ability to use a Kaveri chip and you don't need a firmware upgrade to do it (this was Oct 2014). I also like the Optical S/PDIF out and WiFi 802.11ac.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for the price

Pros: Small, nice features.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Most ITX motherboards are fairly bare bones but this has some quality features and was perfect for the small workstation I built for my parents.

4 out of 5 eggsGood

Pros: Works. Only available FM2+ motherboard worth looking at.

Cons: Almost as expensive as some higher end full at or mid atx boards.

4 out of 5 eggsGood investment

Pros: Simple to install. Gigabyte is quality. No difficulty with any aspects of the MB. Wifi is an excellent additional feature for this size board.

Cons: Had to pull the CMOS battery after initial install of OS. Would boot to Chkdisk and no further. Re-seated RAM and double checked all connections several times. After CMOS battery removal steps the OS loaded and have had no issues since.

Other Thoughts: It's a great MB for the HTPC I'm using it in. I'm glad I made the purchase after plenty of research.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat features with a few major issues

Pros: Built-in Wi-Fi, USB 3.0, and dual-HDMI...

Cons: It's a good thing it came with two HDMI ports because one died after about year of use. Same goes for the one of the SATA ports (port 1 specifically). The on-board wi-fi interacted poorly with my perfectly functional (albeit super-cheap) router. I upgraded to an Asus RT-AC66U and it's worked ever since.

Other Thoughts: I've been a Gigabyte fanboy for years despite having problems with a couple of boards. The way I figure it: you mass produce a product, you're bound to get a bad egg in the batch every now and then.
