1 out of 5 eggsdoa bad board

Pros: seems well made but DOA

Cons: did all of :1. Be sure the CPU is supported by this motherboard, for CPU support list please go to the GIGABYTE website.

2. Check memory requirement and memory installation, be sure the memory is/are seated properly. You may test the board with a single stick to rule a single bad stick of memory.

3. Be sure the ATX 24-Pin and ATX 12V 4 or 8-Pin are plugged in firmly into the board.

4. Check for visible bent or broken pin(s) in the CPU itself (AMD CPU).

5. If you have an add-on video card installed, please check if the card requires additional powers 4, 6, or 8 Pin PCIE power.

6. Test the board on a non-conductive surface or test bench to rule out the grounding possibility.

7. Check monitor for video input selection, VGA, DVI, or HDMI.

8. Avoid using any video adapter or KVM switch.

9. Test with different video cable.

10. Clear the CMOS by taking out the CMOS battery from the battery socket, leave it out for 5 minutes and place it back after that (positive side faces up).

Other Thoughts: purchased months ago, sat until this week's new install- swapped out video card, psupply, memory, 2nd cpu- sent rma request to gigabyte today-hope I get timely response- spent 12hours over 3 days swapping stuff-

1 out of 5 eggsRandomly Shuts Down and Have to Unplug to Start Back Up

Pros: Supports the number of internal and external devices I need. Boots very fast hooked up with my new SSD. Seems very solid except for this issue.

Cons: Shuts down when I'm not looking at it. Power button doesn't work when this happens and have to unplug the power supply from the power strip to get power button to work again. Happened a couple of time s the first week. Upon restart there was a bios corruption error. I used the automated bios update, and it seemed to be stable for another week, but has shut down on three different occasions today. This time though, no bios corruption error.

Other Thoughts: I found similar issues from other owners, but they thought it was due to the sleep settings. I shut those off, but that has had no affect.
Some other forums recommended running all of the standard stress tests, which I've done with memtest and furmark, for a minimum of an hour each, and these have turned up nothing. Power supply should be more than sufficient. I've actually removed a couple of devices from this rebuild project. I was hoping to keep this MB, but looks like I need to go through the RMA process with Newegg.

1 out of 5 eggsWouldn't buy if I were you...

Pros: Nothing you won't get with another 990fx board. Cheap with lots of ports on the back panel I guess.

Cons: Bought this board for a new system two years ago and quickly discovered that I couldn't do anything even moderately CPU intensive without my system rebooting unless I disabled hyper-threading on my FX8150 (now FX8350). Since then I've spent probably around a thousand dollars gradually upgrading and replacing every part of my system in attempt to fix the issue. That's not even counting the hours I've spent playing with drivers, bios settings, power profiles, over-volting, under-volting , researching the problem etc. Turns out it was this board. Maybe the later revisions have fixed it, they at least look like they've got better heat sinks, but if I were you I'd much rather spend fifty or one-hundred dollars more now than risk having to buy a brand new board later anyway. I probably won't buy Gigabyte hardware any more.

Other Thoughts: Note that I didn't over-volt, overclock, under-volt, or underclock anything until after the problems started. It came from the factory like this. After running some bench marks I discovered that I was losing approximately 30% of my system's potential performance by disabling hyper-threading, but that's what it took to actually make his board run like it should have to begin with.

5 out of 5 eggsRyan

Pros: Runs great out of box.

Be sure to install all drivers before trying to do stuff (wondered why Ethernet wasn't working...didn't install the driver)

One RAM profile change got my sticks running 2133 (Their stock) as soon as I installed, using an 8320E Vishera.

Crossfire running smoothly, lot of space between cards.

Cons: None thus far

Other Thoughts: NOTE: Unlike the pictures, the two PCI-E X16 lanes are slots 1 and 3, not 1 and 2. You will need a 4" Crossfire bridge if you run AMD cards, as the board already comes with a 4" SLI bridge.

Pros: Easy to set up
Friendly BIOS
Great reliabilty

Cons: Had the run around when dealing with their rebate department. Doesn't impact my rating of Gigabyte and their products.

1 out of 5 eggsI hope you don't need to get into the BIOS

Pros: It functions exactly as needed, except for one key flaw

Cons: You cannot navigate the BIOS. This mobo uses UEFI bios, which is supposed to support both keyboard and mouse input, BUT regardless of what you have plugged in, there is always a mouse cursor at the center of the screen when you are in the bios or the boot device selection menu.

This would be a minor annoyance if it wasn't for the fact that you can't move the mouse cursor, and its placement overrides the keyboard input. So for the first few pages of BIOS info everything is fine, but when you get to the pages where a selectable option exists in the center of the screen, the highlighted option is STUCK in that position, and it CANNOT BE MOVED.

I have gone through gigabytes web support for this, but have heard nothing but general pablum from them. "Update the BIOS" after I explain I did. "Reset the CMOS" when I have no guarantee that I'd be able to get it to a bootable state should that not work.

I finally sent them an email pleading with them to just send a replacement motherboard, as this one was clearly broken, but the only response I got was silence.

Other Thoughts: No email response for over a week, I just bought a new ASUS motherboard to replace this one with. Hopefully that mobo will actually work properly, but I cannot in good conscience recommend this motherboard or any GIGABYTE product again after this total blowing-off of their responsibility to their customers.

2 out of 5 eggsLimited Options

Pros: Seems durable and well made enough, all the basic needs

Cons: Extremley so to boot OS. BIOS is too simple

Other Thoughts: I got this to replace an Asrock board that was acting funny and out of warranty. It is better build and seems to be higher quality bot lacks any kind of fast boot option and has inferior bios. It takes about 40 seconds for the bios to boot windows which negates the raid 0 array I installed. The bios has far fewer options and is not as user friendly as Asrocks, but it at least works consistently.

5 out of 5 eggsGigabyte Owns all competition

Pros: I've owned this board for over 2 years now. Have gamed with Gigabyte boards in the past. Had one (not this board, older AM 2+) go Tango Uniform on me once, it was like 4 months before 3 year warranty expired. Shipped it off, they sent it back fixed, that was over 2 years ago... that board is still running my old Phenom II as a media server. Gigabyte won’t let you down, and will support you if they do by some remote chance. Gigabyte’s answer to the A**S Sabertooth line.

Cons: ZERO. You're a fool if you don't steal this board at this price before it slips away into discontinued land. Excellent budget gamer build at this price ($129.99)
Not a Fan Boy, but I know a quality performance company when I see one; I’ve been building Gaming rigs since 1998. Hate if you must, But AMD can hang with Intel when paired with the right components.

Other Thoughts: Thanks for reliable, quality performance equipment Gigabyte. Also running 2x GeForce GTX 660’s in SLI .... also Gigabyte cards. Never let me down. I smoke people a lot in all my games. Battlefield 4, etc.
Got another one of these Motherboards on the way right now for a "budget" Gaming Rig for a client’s Kid. Can’t wait to see his face when he loads a game for the first time, even with his one GTX 660. He can grow into this board... as I have and will for the next year. AMD + Gigabyte = Good times

MY specs:

GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 AM3+
AMD FX-6300 Vishera 6-Core 3.5GHz (4.1GHz Turbo) OC'd to 4.0 GHz constant, stable
Corsair Hydro Series H60
2 X GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 660 2GB SLI
8 GB G-Skill Ripjaw PC3-12800
