4 out of 5 eggsGood overall

Pros: - Nice subtle design
- Smart right-angled SATA connections
- Smart design choice - plastic cap on the 1394 headers when not in use
- Nice block diagram of motherboard components in the manual
- Easy to follow instructions
- Plenty of extra SATA cables included

Cons: - Top PCI 1x slot is very close to chipset cooling parts (which is noted in the manual)
- Dead fly on the antistatic bag (Newegg?)
- Installing the chipset drivers is not exactly straightforward
- Does take a little while to post, could be faster.
- Not happy with the poor software design/Norton AV bundling

Other Thoughts: It supports RAID, but it's not very well advertised. Overall, I'd say this board is pretty good. For the money, I thought we would be past bundled software in the CD, but I guess this is the age we live in.

1 out of 5 eggsDUD Board

Pros: Pretty board, had all the features I needed.

Cons: POSTed exactly one time, now nothing. PC tries to power on, lights and fans going, but not responsive. Needs to be shutdown from the power supply. Tried resetting the CMOS a couple of times, swapped out RAM and PSU and was suspecting something might be wrong with FX-8320 until I read the other reviews on here. I would be happier with Gigabyte if they didn't use customers as Quality Control. Now to see if a certain store (MC) will swap this out for an ASUS.

Other Thoughts: I have been using Gigabyte for years. I love them for their customizability and versatility. May need to take a break from them until quality improves.

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible Support/RMA

Pros: This board worked great for the time period that it worked. Fast and easy to install.

Cons: Only worked for 7 months. The expansion slots failed after 7 months. I attempted to RMA it but Gigabyte claimed the board passed testing and worked fine. I swapped out each component to no success so I finally bought a new Asus motherboard and low and behold everything worked great.

I have sent numerous emails to Gigabyte to try and get my faulty motherboard replaced but it has been broken for 4 months now and still no success. So i can't recommend this board or any Gigabyte product if this is how their RMA department handles faulty equipment.

Other Thoughts: Terrible RMA support. Continuing the fight to try and get my faulty motherboard replaced.

5 out of 5 eggsFruit From AMD Tree

Pros: This is the 6th build I have put together for my family from the AMD family. The latest being the 6200, the 8350, and the 6350. I have nothing but high praise for all three of these Black Edition CPUs. The 8350 I built for myself is special. After reading the reviews for this product, I added an after market heat sink. (for all three machines). Every one who comes into my home raves about my machine.Clear acrylic case and lights of all colors that scream of high end performance. It looks good and performs better.

Cons: None. My wife, grand children, and sister haven't said anything negative to me about their machines. No news is good news. Performance has a way of silencing my family. Me (being the Family IT guy) love it

2 out of 5 eggsAfter Replacement

Pros: Black color , looks nice in my case.

Cons: Well, i got a replacement board ,previous one had bios corruptions, didnt matter if u upgrade to newer bios F3..

Few overviews failing board was a ver4 with bios F2 installed it freezed a lot and reflashed bios itself.
with F3 bios and replaced board u wouldnt see the board turning on and shutting down in a sec and turning on which happened with previous board too.. also i have had only one bios reflash with replaced board which tells me the previous one had issues..

Now my yourney isnt over , the new board still freezes on boot right when showing the Windows 7x64 sp1 logon screen..
I have tested Memory and streesed out CPU and nothing ,if you logon without freezing is so rock solid , that makes me think it could be a compatibilitie issue with Win7x64.

I will keep testing, but if u really one something that is going to work straight this board isnt for you, stir away from Gigabyte as I will , for me is too late i dont want it I would want to get refund money buy i dont want to spend another 15 bucks for RMA..

2 out of 5 eggsBuggy BIOS with Linux

Pros: Attractive motherboard and seems built well -- I like the heat sinks and heat pipes on chips.

Cons: If you do some research, many motherboards with AMD chipsets have had trouble with IOMMU. But this motherboard's BIOS seems particularly buggy. Under Linux, it's not just about enabling or disabling IOMMU in the BIOS ... each has it's own problems... causing boot issues, network issues, USB issues, IO page faults etc. I recommend turing on IOMMU in the BIOS and pass these parameters: "iommu=pt iommu=1 iommu=memaper iommu=noagp iommu=noaperture"

Prior to the addition of the parameters "AMD-Vi: Event logged [IO_PAGE_FAULT ..." was repeating in my dmesgs and on-board audio was not being recognized after I added an older graphics card.

Other Thoughts: If I had to do it again, I'd do more research to find a motherboard with a top notch BIOS. For details about BIOS problems look at Arch Forums and TweakTown Forums.

1 out of 5 eggsUnless you have a AMb slot instead of AM3.

Pros: Probably an excellent board if you have an AMD Bulldozer CPU laying around.

Cons: The outside of the box says AM3+.. However the board that is in the box has an AMb slot. I sent the board for an RMA directly to Gigabyte. They sent the board back and said nothing is wrong.

Other Thoughts: I have installed many processors before.. I installed my first FX8350 into this board. AMb has one extra pin. So that pin on the FX8350 breaks. It worked for months like that. Then it started freezing. You have no blue screen, no diagnostic error to look at.
Bottom line: I have 3 x FX8350 2 broken pins just sitting here.
I RMA the board. Clearly on the outside of the box it say "AM3" Bub the are AMb sockets.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Bargain

Pros: This is a fantastic deal for an am3+ board with a 990fx chipset. Great for overclockers and gamers. Plenty of pci lanes including 2 2.0 x 16 lanes for those who want to crossfire or sli. Capable of pushing any fx cpu to their max. Plenty of sata plug-ins with 6 gbps speeds. Looks real awesome. Love the black grey look. This is the lowest I would go if you are thinking of putting in an amd 9000 series fx cpu. Revision 4.0 will support a fx 9370 or a 9590, but I would recommend looking at the ultra durable 7 board from gigabyte for one of those. I love the save profiles that the uefi bios gives ya. I have 3 profiles that I use regularly: 1 default with xmp enabled, 1 for overclocking, and one where I turn my fx 8320 into a quad core for when i am just basic web browsing, although I really dont need to do that since the parking feature does that for the most part for me.

Cons: If you are looking for the fastest boot time possible, this isn't the board for ya. POSTing takes about 3-4 seconds everytime. I would have preferred to not have sideways facing sata ports but that is a meh complaint. Other than that I have no complaints what so ever.

Other Thoughts: If you dont plan to overclock or run sli/crossfire, consider something with a 970 chipset will save you a bit of money.
My build:
Fx 8320
Cooler master hyper t4
Currently a single xfx 270x black edition card
gigabyte 990fx ud3 Rev 4.0
xfx 650 watt pro
256gb Samsun evo ssd
1 tb wd blue
Rosewill challenger case
Windows 8.1 home premium

1 out of 5 eggsnot so easy

Pros: Nice looking motherboard. Lots of good features.

Cons: Cheaply built. Installed with an FX9590 cpu and AMD liquid cooler (mobo ver 4.0) but was never able to install operating system, Windows 7. The motherboard would not recognize the ASUS DVD ROM nor the ASUS DVD R/RW drives. Reset the bios at least 10 times and followed the installation manual exactly, no luck. Should not need luck. Removed the FX9590 thinking that the mobo was not recognizing it. Installed an FX8350 and reset the cmos and reset all parameters in the bios again. Finally after about 8 tries the mobo recognized the CPU and the DVD ROM and DVD R/RW drives. WOW thought I. Not to worry, now it doesn't recognize the 2 Raptors that I have in raid 0. I have been working with this mobo for a solid week and I finally give up. After using Gigabyte for about 25 years, I give up. No more Gigabyte. It is built a bit to cheap for me.

Other Thoughts: Very disappointed and very, very frustrated. Gigabyte support does not seem to care. There help was very little.
