The GA-Z68XP-UD3 motherboard is based on the Intel Z68 Express Chipset supporting the new 2nd generation Intel Core processors. Delivering the very best that Intel 6 series chipsets have to offer, including a significant performance boost with Intel Smart Response Technology, the first ever mSATA drive connectors on a standard desktop PC motherboard, and GIGABYTE's proprietary Touch BIOS technology, GIGABYTE Z68 series motherboards put users in the driver seat, allowing them to take total control over how their system operates and performs to best match their individual computing needs.

  • newegg Onboard mSATA for Intel SLC SSDs and Smart Response Technology GIGABYTE Z68 motherboards are equipped with the much anticipated Intel Smart Response Technology, allowing users to experience system performance similar to SSD-only systems. Intel Smart Response technology works by using intelligent block-based caching of frequently used applications to improve system performance and responsiveness. In fact, GIGABYTE Z68 motherboards with Intel Smart Response Technology are able to outperform hybrid drive systems by more than 2X (PC Mark Vantage HDD test) and HDD-only systems by as much as 4X (PC Mark Vantage HDD test) and deliver a 60% performance improvement over HDD-only systems in PC Mark Vantage Suite.
  • newegg GIGABYTE EZ Smart Response The GIGABYTE EZ Smart Response utility is a simple application that allows users to quickly and easily configure their system for Intel Smart Response Technology. In the past, enabling Intel Smart Response meant users needed to enter the BIOS in order to configure their system for RAID mode, which then required a complete reinstall of the operating system. Once that processes was complete, users then needed to install the Intel Rapid Storage Utility as well as configure Intel's Smart Response Technology. GIGABYTE EZ Smart Response does all of this automatically, without users having to perform a complicated install process. This allows them to quickly and effortlessly enjoy a significant boost in system performance.
  • newegg Switchable Graphics with LucidLogix Virtu GPU Virtualization GIGABYTE Z68 motherboards are enabled with LucidLogix Virtu GPU Virtualization technology which allows users to dynamically switch between their built-in graphics and their high-end, 3D discrete graphics cards. This is ideal for gamers who require high-resolution gaming and still want to enjoy the built-in media features of 2nd generation Intel Core processors. In so doing, switchable graphics helps to dramatically reduce PC graphics power consumption.
  • newegg GIGABYTE Touch BIOS Navigating through the BIOS to change system settings can be a daunting task for users not familiar with control “F” functions and mouse-less navigation. While some EFI BIOS try to address this with a mouse friendly environment, many implementations still lack a certain ease-of-use necessary for most people. With GIGABYTE Touch BIOS, GIGABYTE engineers have completely re-imagined how users can interact with their BIOS, allowing for a more intuitive user experience. In fact, with a touch screen monitor, GIGABYTE Touch BIOS is as easy to use as most apps on your iPhone.
  • newegg Ultra Durable 3 The GIGABYTE Ultra Durable 3 features twice the copper for both the power and ground layer of the PCB, dramatically lowering system temperature by spreading the heat from the critical area (such as CPU power zone) throughout the entire PCB. GIGABYTE also lowers the PCB impedance by 50%, which helps to reduce electrical waste and further lowers component temperatures. A 2x Copper layer design also provides improved signal quality and lower EMI (Electromagnetic Interference), providing better system stability and allowing for great margins for overclocking.
  • newegg Multi-GPU Support with CrossFireX and SLI Flexible graphics capabilities supported for either CrossFireX or SLI deliver the ultimate in graphics performance for gaming enthusiasts who demand the highest frame rates without compromising on resolution.

5 out of 5 eggsBeen running strong since spring 2012

Pros: Hasnt failed on me yet, has had a few graphic card swaps, I run an i7 2600k since I bought it with 16gb of RAM 4 sticks. I have a GTX 670 in it atm. In a mid-tower, about to be moved to a full tower. I run both HDD and SSD.

Cons: Honestly after reading all of the bad reviews I cannot say I relate to any of them. I dont know if I just got lucky or what but this tower has been moved and packed up in luggage about 4 times a year since I built it with everything in it and I've never had any issues with anything really. The GTX 570 gave me some issues but really I cannot think of any cons off the top of my head.
My super tech friend said it's the ugliest board he has ever seen but hey it works as well as his saber tooth.

Other Thoughts: This was a great board back when I bought it and it hasnt let me down since. I'll wait till it gives me issues or I want to get a different socket type till I even think about replacing it.

4 out of 5 eggsNot to shabby

Pros: At the time, cost!

Cons: Since I have to write something, crashes sometimes.

Other Thoughts: I have owned this board for over a year and I can count on one hand the amount of times it has crashed. When I built the PC using thie board the total project only cost me around $1300 and has been great!

1 out of 5 eggsBad rma service.

Pros: -When it doesn't crash it's great.

Cons: -Random crashes, see other thoughts
-RMA'd and they sent it back saying there was nothing wrong with the board.

Other Thoughts: I'm pretty sure something failed that handles the memory as crashes way more often with two or more sticks of ram and 2 of the four slots crash more often with a single stick than the others.
I first had issues with the boot looping, then the bios update fixed that for the most part.
Then came random crashing when I gamed, so after fighting with the board and testing it with dos mem testing (which caused it to freeze with no codes) I just bought a deal for a Biostar board that was used since Biostar carried their warranty over.

Needless to say the same components on a new board worked flawlessly, I then moved the same components to another board as I upgraded which was an ASRock and it had no issues either.
So I have now lost the cost of shipping on top of having a bad motherboard that's under warranty that the manufacturer won't fix since it doesn't show in 10min of testing.
I won't be buying Gigabyte again or listening to tom's hardware review advice.

2 out of 5 eggsAlright board

Pros: The price was pretty good for the features it had and worked well in my system for about a year and a half.

Cons: After about a year and a half my computer started boot looping. Power on and shut down multiple times. Every once in a while it will boot (usually after about 2-10 reset cycles.) Tried upgrading BIOS to UEFI and the problem is still there. Also the board doesn't overclock very well. Requires more voltage than other boards require for the same overclocks.

1 out of 5 eggsRMA Hell

Pros: .

Cons: Wwas a good motherboard until it stopped working. Every troubleshooting procedure was performed to no avail. Has been RMA'd two-three times, and still never worked. Never will I ever buy another Gigabyte product, I would rather get a dirty stick poked in my eye.

1 out of 5 eggsThe end via the Endless

Pros: For a good bit; it did the job and I was happy.

Cons: As of the last month, the endless loop of death is now happening. I got this mobo Feb of 12. It would do the loop, power on, but not post, then power off from time to time. But now it does it a lot or it will not read that I have a GPU.

I updated the bios, drivers, and all that. I dread turning on my computer. It will loop or not read the gpu. My system has been stable but now it is just a pain.

I called re RMA, I have to ship it, pay for shipping, and then wait to see.

Not too happy and I can't go w/o my main computer for a week. I need to get a new mobo and I am not sure gigabyte will get another shot.

Other Thoughts: I was "lucky" for almost 2 years!

4 out of 5 eggsGood after BIOS update

Pros: It does the job

Cons: POST is slow. Needed a BIOS update before I could use the CPU I wanted.

Other Thoughts: 4/5 due to the need to update the BIOS before I could use it with an updated processor.

1 out of 5 eggsShould have read reviews....

Pros: n/a

Cons: Looks as though it came DOA. Probably due to be using Ivy Bridge and it being shipped with an old BIOS. Will be purchasing a Sandy Bridge i5 to see if it works. If so, will update the BIOS and update this from there...

1 out of 5 eggsAvoid This Board

Pros: Plenty of connections, when it works it does what its supposed to.

Cons: WOW. For about a year, everything was working fine. After a year I started to get the infinite boot loop, tested my components, took everything apart and sent in the motherboard. It came back repaired. Everything worked fine for about 4 months. Now it will power on, won't post, and all the phase LEDs remain lit. Had the motherboard tested, guess what, its the motherboard, again. Having these things done aren't free, and Gigabytes customer support solution was get another RMA and pay to have it shipped to us. Again. Thanks Gigabyte!
