4 out of 5 eggsGood motherboard overall

Pros: Compatibility with PS2 mouse and keyboard. Makes the system safer
Plenty of slots for SATA disks and cards. Floppy disk slot avalaible. It is good, I had to use floppies to install FreeBSD.

Cons: Missing the 2 IDE ports. No parallel and serial port. I need adapters USB -> serial. Windows XP is very hard to install on such a hardware (but doable)

1 out of 5 eggsAnother DOA

Pros: specs look great

Cons: I have owned Gigabyte MB's for years. I have been building PC's professionally for 18+ years. I can't believe that I just boxed my third one to ship it back to Newegg. Same problem as everyone else powers up for 10 seconds and powers down. I tried it with the 4 pin power connector as well as the 8 pin power connector same result. I have contacted Gigabyte on many occasions to help resolve but nothing suggested by them worked.

Other Thoughts: At least Newegg's RMA process is easy. I think Gigabyte is cutting corners and has lost it's edge. I'm currently running a Gigabyte GA-945gm-s2 and it has been great for three years. Next to my desk is a old Gigabyte Server running dual pII 300s and it is over 12 years old and it runs 24/7.

1 out of 5 eggsWill never know what could have been...

Pros: It looked awesome... but I would like it to actually run and not just be eye candy.

Cons: I went through 3 motherboards and had the same issue with all 3 and have seen multiple reviews reporting the same issue. If I installed a proc, video card and connected a power suplly, (regardless of the multiple memory configurations I tried) the power would just continue to cycle and I never got any video. If I pulled the proc, the board acted like it was starting, fans were powered, & the lights on the board lit up but there was never any video. I tried 2 different video cards, that both worked on another Gigabyte MoBo (a different model) I already had, but I could not get a signal from either. I tried different memory configurations since I read reviews where users had issues with dual-channel kits so I tried just one stick and even no sticks and nothing. I tried removing the board from the case because I read reviews where occasionally others would have issues with the board shorting in the case but still no luck.

Other Thoughts: I would have say it was a video card issue if I wasn't able to put the card in another pc and have it work so there must be an obvious MoBo issue. Whether it's an undocummented support issue for the video cards I tried (one being ATI & the other is Nvidia) or something else that is neither addressed in the manual or site.
I contacted Gigabyte support and after waiting on hold for 45 minutes for a "support" tech, I finally got someone who rudely stated that I wasn't allowing him to talk and put me back on hold when I all I did was try to list off what troubleshooting steps I took so far. Apparently he is a magical wizard and already knew what I had tried and was going to be able to give me new things to try, I guess.
Anyway, the whole experience really soured me on Gigabyte and so I would not recommend purchasing this or ANY other Gigabyte product.
Furtunately, Newegg was awesome throughout the ordeal and allowed me try more than one board without being financially penalized for it

1 out of 5 eggsUpdate your mobo bios immediately

Pros: It has 8 usb ports which is nice and the labeling on the board is easy to read.

Cons: Plug in placement needs some work as everything is crowded on the right side.

This however is my biggest complaint. I had to send this board in for a RMA because the RAM slots 3 and 4 were not working. 1 and 2 functioned just fine. I get the second board and it happens again. After looking up some info on the board I find out that it has BIOS issues with being able to utilize memory in the slots and will cause physical memory dumps. You want the version FE for the BIOS if you have Revision 1.6 on the board. Check the bottom left corner for the revision number. FE was released on 3/12/2010. Basically days after I RMA the first board they release a fix for the issue. I've updated the BIOS now and the system seems to be running well.

Other Thoughts: I'm running Windows 7 32 bit
Intel core2Duo 2.93 ghz wolfdale
G Skill 2x 2GB 1066 RAM sticks
Nvidia 8600 GTS.

It would be nice if Gigabyte updated their product BIOS before shipping them out again but if this happens to anyone; run the system with one stick of memory and update the bios. That should fix the issue.

Over all I'm happy that things work but not really happy with having to wait almost a month to get my computer up and running due to a BIOS issue.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: Packaging and everything was very impressive, my first impression was very good, especially the back plate which is color coded and labeled nicely. I'm sure gigabyte is not the only one doing this but it's the first one I have seen. The overall package really impressed me, it was even better then my previous motherboard, the ASUS P5B Deluxe Wi/Fi, which came with tons of goodies.

Cons: There was a short somewhere on the board, it would power up for about 1/10th of a second and then power back off. I tried a number of things myself, and then consulted Gigabyte for suggestions, I spoke with two different people and both seemed very knowledgeable and were able to identify that the board was bad very quickly. In the end I had the board out of the case with nothing but the processor in it and nothing really changed, it still would only power on for a second so they suggested I send it back.

Other Thoughts: Based on the reviews I have seen and the experience I have had with the help line, I decided to give the board another shot. The replacement board should be here in a few days and will review it then, assuming it works.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Board

Pros: Lots of options. Took my Q9550 E0 to 3.8 on 1.216V. Keep loadline on for anything under 1.45v. Manually configured memory to 2.1V.

Cons: TERRIBLE SATA placement (My 47870x2 covers most of the slots). Running Crossfire turns the slots into 8x speed. I think the colors are ugly.

Other Thoughts: I wish it overclocked itself and adjusted settings so I dont have to spend my night fiddling around with it!

5 out of 5 eggsVery good board

Pros: Great layout. Lots of USB and SATA ports. DDR2 1366+ support. Awesome overclocking in bios and software that helps set the bios and give auto setting on bootup. Very sturdy board. Hand weighed it and my Biostar that I was replacing and there was a noticable difference. The copper conducts it all man.

Cons: the EZTune software was glitchy. Would freeze and wouldn't reinstall when I tried uninstalling a previous version. Still working on that, but I like the board so much I am leaving all 5 eggs!

Other Thoughts: The bios tweaking allows auto on any item. Example, I oticed that the EZTune set my memory with several different CAS and Tras settings. I went into my bios and set for 5-5-5-15 and left everything else on auto and all was well. There are several more functions I haven't explored yet, but all of this should keep me entertained for a while:) First board I got, something happened during install and the pins were bent beneacth the processor. RMA'd the board and Newegg was awesome, exchanging it for a new board! Newegg is awesome!

5 out of 5 eggsDependable Motherboard

Pros: Has all the usual bells and whistles found on any decent P45 Mobo. Lots of SATA ports so even your DVD/RW can be SATA. Has lots of room for expansion. A good price to performance/features ratio. Noticeably heavier than other Mobos Ive owned. The layout is exceptional. All the SATA ports are together and almost all the connections are on the outer edges of the board. Very clean, professional look even from someone who really just wants it to work right, and then the

Cons: The color. I know it gets buried under all those wires, cards and even the case, I have blue lights in my case, so its blue on blue. Documentation is sub-par. If you never have installed a Mobo before, have no one to drag into helping you who has, and the documentation is what your gonna rely on to get your PC running; make another selection! However; if your looking at Mobos than you likely don't have this issue.

Other Thoughts: If you are looking for a dependable P45 Mobo as a replacement or an upgrade from a P/G 35, this one should be on your short list.

1 out of 5 eggsTwo defective motherboards in a row

Pros: Looks nice.

Cons: I had gotten the "bent pin, no POST reboot loop" problem described in other reviews for one of these motherboards a few weeks back. I RMA'd that mobo, to get a replacement. The replacement has the same "bent pin, no POST reboot loop," so I either won the defective motherboard lottery, or there was a bad batch of these motherboards made. I ended up getting a different mobo from ASUS, which worked fine.

The only positive of this whole situation is seeing how far NewEgg was willing to go to make sure I was completely satisfied with my experience.

1 out of 5 eggsDead on Arrival

Pros: Lots of features, Great price. Good bundling.

Cons: It does not work. There are many people getting doa boards. If you get a good one, great, but quality control seems amiss.

Other Thoughts: I intended an overall rating of zero eggs, but system will not allow that.
