Gigabyte's GA-EP43-DS3L motherboard has been optimized to work more efficiently with today's 45nm processors. The board has dynamic 4 gear power switching. As your system needs more power it gets it and when the power load goes down, so does the supplied power. This lets you have power when you need it, and save energy and money when you don't.

CPU power isn't the only thing that is energy regulated. The Gigabit Ethernet connection tests the connection for length and signal strength and optimizes transmission power for the connection. To control it all you can use the newly redesigned Easy Tune 6 to fine tune all your settings.

System durability and security are as important as ever. Gigabyte's DualBIOS system has a second BIOS chip on the motherboard for quick and painless recovery from crashes and viruses. They also built the motherboard with all conductive polymer aluminum solid capacitors for increased longevity and power efficiency.

  • newegg Intel P43 Express Chipset for Intel CPU Based on the Intel P43 Express chipset, the GIGABYTE GA-EP43-DS3L supports Intel LGA 775 (Socket T) processors including the Core 2 Extreme, Core 2 Quad, Core 2 Duo and Pentium D series as well as the next generation Intel 45nm processors.
  • newegg PCI Express 2.0 Interface The PCI-Express 2.0 interface provides twice the bandwidth of PCI-Express X16 to handle the data load of next-generation graphics cards while retaining compatibility with current PCI-Express cards.
  • newegg Gigabit Ethernet Connectivity The GIGABYTE GA-EP43-DS3L features a fast Gigabit network interface for high-speed LAN connections at up to 1000Mbps data transfer rates with advanced security features to ward off malicious attacks. Gigabit LAN is ideal for supercharged seamless streaming of Internet audio and video content.
  • newegg GIGABYTE DualBIOS GIGABYTE DualBIOS technology protects the BIOS from virus attacks. With its innovative backup BIOS design, this platform provides twice the security thus assuring the PC’s stability.

4 out of 5 eggsDurable Board with Some Limitations

Pros: - The usual GIGABYTE durability is demonstrated again with this motherboard
- Allows some overclocking but it's really limited (see cons)
- Has a good layout
- PCI slots are nice for legacy devices (well, back in 2009, PCI was still common but now-a-days, late 2014, it's pretty much dead)
- IDE (again, dead at consumer level for 2014) is nice for older HDDs and ODDs
- Stays cool if not overclocking

Had this matched with an Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 and 8GB of Kingston HyperX DDR2 1066 from January 2009 to July 2009 before I realized I needed to get an Intel P45 chipset motherboard with more robust overclocking features.

It is a good motherboard and is really meant for a no-frills setup (again, limited overclocking).

Cons: The overclocking on this board is not up to par with what I was used to. Sure, you can get memory to 1066 but you are not going to get 4 sticks of memory to 1200 even though the specifications do say it is possible. I could NOT get my E8400 to overclock a single bit even though there are all the usual settings to do so in the BIOS.

Other Thoughts: Ok, sure, this review is like a really long-term review of the motherboard and no one sells this anymore except on auction or bargain sites. However, I do have to say that it is still going good in my friend's computer (she's not really that needy with computer performance) when I sold it to her as a used motherboard and built a new system in July 2009 with this. Like all things in life, you keep it tidy and clean and it will last.

Over the years, it has gone through 3 HDDs (current one is a 500GB HDD), has an older Samsung 470 SSD (thing is still amazing), 2 GPUs (9600 GT to GTX 460 I got for $20 last year), and gone from 4GB of G.Skill memory to 8GB (4x2GB DDR2 1066/PC2-8500) of same G.Skill. I keep it maintained for her and it still runs circles around newer computers that have been just flat out abused by their owners (you know, not keeping it clean, garbage processes, etc.). She's happy with it.

It's an average and satisfactory board with good features (albeit, it tries to hard on claiming overclocking ability) and excellent durability. That is why I am giving this 4 eggs: 3 eggs for average performance with similar priced models at-the-time (January 2009) and 1 extra egg for the really durable design.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Everything works as expected. I had this board for about 5 months and it gave me no problems whatoever and it seems perfectly stable.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: This is a low-budget motherboard and it does well what it should. This is a good product. Don't buy this motherboard if it doesn't fit your needs. This is what I was looking for and I'm totally satisfied with it.

3 out of 5 eggsShipping Damage

Pros: This is not directly related to the items performance. I have full confidence in Newegg as well as Gigabyte. Neither has ever left me unsatisfied.

Cons: This GA-EP43-DS3L motherboard from Gigabyte was held up during the shipping process in Portland, OR due to hazardous weather conditions. At some point on it's journey to my door I believe it was damaged somehow and wouldn't function properly

Pros: This board has great compatibility it has worked with every piece of hardware and software I have installed no bsods/system crashes.
The bundled overclocking software is great for a novice it allows overclocking without major risk to the system.

Cons: None encountered as of yet.

Other Thoughts: I bought this for a friend who did not have a computer so far hes very happy with it hes not much of a gamer he only plays zoo tycoon 1 and 2.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: None so far. I have had great luck with Gigabyte in the past, so i figured I would try them on this board. Computer posted with 4GB of G.Skill RAM, and the RAM and CPU are very easy to overclock. This is a great motherboard for the price. As always, Newegg has the best prices and service!

Cons: Not having firewire is always a con, but I had a PCI card with firewire, so not a big deal. Only on PCI express, so no SLI, but I wasn't expecting to do SLI anyways.

Other Thoughts: I used this board for an inexpensive computer build. I am running an E8400 core two duo, 4GB G.Skill RAM and it is running great so far. If you want a pretty good motherboard for an inexpensive build, then this is the motherboard to get. If you are a heavy gamer, you might want to look somewhere else.
