Synology 5-bay DiskStation DS1525+ (Diskless)

The Synology DiskStation DS1525+ is a diskless 5-bay desktop NAS for homes, creative teams, and small businesses that need centralized storage, backups, and media streaming, with two built-in 2.5GbE ports and support for expansion up to 15 drives.

Recommended For

• Small offices or workgroups that need shared folders, user permissions, and centralized backup on a multi-user network, with room to add storage as their data grows.
• Photographers, video editors, or studios that want centralized project storage and backups over a faster-than-gigabit local network; the built-in 2.5GbE ports and optional 10GbE upgrade suit shared-file workflows.
• Households with large photo and media libraries that want network storage, automated protection, and playback on devices that can play the stored video formats directly.
• Home-lab and small-business users who want one NAS for shared storage plus DSM applications such as backup, surveillance, or virtualization, and are comfortable managing a network storage system.

Real-World Use Scenarios

• Back up several household or small-business PCs and Macs to one place, then restore individual files or a device from scheduled backups instead of relying on separate manual copies.
• Keep family photos and shared files in a central library, with access and syncing across computers and phones; this can reduce dependence on separate cloud storage for everyday access.
• Store and share a growing photo or video project library among a small creative team. Faster transfers are most noticeable when the computers and network are also equipped for multi-gigabit speeds; actual editing performance depends on the workflow and setup.
• Build a home or office media library and stream stored files to compatible TVs, computers, or media players. For formats that require conversion, plan on playback-compatible clients or another transcoding device rather than assuming the NAS will handle every conversion.
• Record and review footage from a small IP-camera setup in one managed location. Surveillance Station supports live monitoring and playback; adding cameras beyond the included licenses may require purchasing additional licenses.
• Start with storage for current files and backups, then add compatible expansion units as the library grows, keeping the same NAS-based file and backup workflow.
