Pros: This is a real NEC chipset drive unlike the 7220, which was a liteon oem. It also uses a chipset that is 90nm instead of 150nm and uses about half the power on the chipset. From what's known so far, this is a very good burning drive that even does pretty good quality 24x burns.

Cons: Nec drives don't necessarily have the best error correcting when reading.

Pros: Easy install. Very fast. Plugged right in and I hit the ground running. Purchased for my first cpu build. Im coming from a 16x DVD drive that would take 6 minutes to burn 4.5gigs of a movie. Now with this drive im burning things in less that half of that time.

Cons: Nothing at all.

Overall Review: Great buy. To the guy that below me, this is an OEM drive! That means you get no fancy cables or colorful instructions. So dont dock an egg if you dont understand what your buying. But hey their your eggs, you can do what you want with them.

Pros: When you have so many CD/DVD optical drives to choose from for so little in cost, why scrimp a couple dollars to get an inferior build quality? I used to buy LiteOn drives exclusively because at one time they offered a superior value proposition, but now comparing the build quality of a new LiteOn drive, and this Sony, you can not justify saving the couple of dollars, the Sony drive is more rigid, its drive mechanism is better, its much quieter, and my overall experience with it has just been better, its a far better build for just a few dollars more in premium. Its 100% worth it.

Cons: Nothing, this is the basic optical drive everyone should use as far as I am concerned.

Pros: Even burning ritek s04 DL discs at 8x I have yet to see more than 3 consecutive PIFs. Verbatim performance is negligibly better at 4x and 6x write speeds on this drive. Flat out fast write speeds. This will burn a complete 4.7 discs in almost 4 minutes flat if you have high speed verbatim media.

Cons: I don't care for the drive door action. No error scanning.

Overall Review: The first write on it was wonky but everything since has been gold.

Pros: None really....

Cons: The first drive failed within a few hours of use and was extremely loud. The replacement drive failed after a couple of weeks. It returns many errors and cannot read a DVD or CD on boot up or in Windows or Linux. And forget about trying to write. I have tried it in more than one computer and still nothing.

Overall Review: Not worth even trying another Sony Optiarc drive again! Am replacing with another brand.

Pros: Worked right out of the box.

Overall Review: Needed an upgrade so I could install Windows 7, worked like a charm. ( drive is still seen after loading Windows 7 ) Get it!

Pros: Bought two Sony Optiarc, as usual they both work well, have not had any issues with them or any of the drivers prior to these two.

Pros: Great OEM device. Hooked up a sata cable and plugged it into the mobo and it worked instantly. Another pro is that when I bought it, it came with free shipping. 5 Eggs from me.

Cons: None right now.

Overall Review: Since it is OEM it does not come w/ a sata cable, also it is in bubble wrap secure packaging instead of the retail box. Great $ saver from Newegg.
