Rosewill RC-411v3 - Network Adapter 10/100/1000 Mbps PCI-Express 1 x RJ45

Pros: I thought this would be good for my linux firewall inside NIC. I bought one in November 08 to try and it worked great. It passed all my testing. I do this for a living so I was please to find a cheap X1, half height, 1G NIC that would work in a small case (Intels X1, 1G is a bit longer)

Cons: I bought 5 more of these in December and started to put them into clients firewalls I supply. TO MY HORROR THEY STARTED TO RANDOMLY LOCK UP THE UNITS! There is nothing worse than real production fails. There may be a timming issue with the motherboard I'm using or a problem in the Linux kernel since I did not compile any drivers, just used the default from my firewall distribution which seemed to work fine. I now have 5 of the original 6 back in house to look at and remember all the wasted time and trips to clients. The next time I try and save $15 per machine I hope I get slapped just as hard.

Overall Review: I never tried this in XP so I can't speak for the true windows drivers or the card in that application. I'm really not sure if this is a linux driver issue, but I feel it is a timming issue on the X1 bus. To scarry when it works for hours then locks the whole thing up. This is based on a nightmare over 2 months and 6 deployed cards. Only 1 remains working - and I don't know why.

Pros: I was looking for a reasonably priced product with Gigabyte speed. Low and behold, Rosewill carries one (actually more!). I purchased one and was happy to see that it worked well and installed easily with Windows 7 (Next, see Cons...but SEE OTHER THOUGHTS)

Cons: Unfortunately, the one I purchased went south...dying a slow death. I read one of the other reviews on contacting Rosewill Customer Service as a last ditch effort. Read on...

Overall Review: To my delight and surprise, I received a very courteous and professional reply from Rosewill Customer Service. Within a couple days, a replacement was on its way to my doorstep. That easy!!! I am extremely pleased to find that 'old school' customer service lives. Because of this, I do intend to continue to buy Rosewill products via Newegg!! Thank you.

Overall Review: needed a GbE nic on my linux workstation, worth every penny

Pros: Recognized by Debian and Ubuntu out of the box.

Cons: Doesn't support 9k jumbo frames, only 7k (6k in linux driver documentation.

Overall Review: I should have looked into the more before buying. (Chipset is included in a lot of LGA775 microATX boards RTL8111C)

Pros: Great card I can tell a improvement in gigabit transfer. Before 37Mb, After 45Mb+ I bumped packet size, which my other card did not support so I am sure that is some of it.

Overall Review: What I would really like to do with this is get it working in a FreeNAS server which is based on FreeBSD. I have heard of people getting this one to work on FreeBSD but I have hot had any such luck. If anyone has any ideas..... ( byrddtrader at yahoo ) Thx!

Pros: Good speed, reliable performance, uses a PCI-e x1 slot which usually go to waste. Also, it has gigabit but I didn't use that.

Cons: Whenever this NIC is plugged into my motherboard, it 2/3 times causes the computer to fail at boot. The computer will turn off and attempt to turn on again, eventually to succeed after 2 or 3 tries. Whenever this happens it resets my oc settings so I have to go into the BIOS and re-apply it.

Overall Review: The router ended up moving so I switched to a wireless card. After this happened, the problem magically went away, so I knew this NIC was the problem.

Pros: Works great with Linux, but you need to get the drivers from Realtek and follow the instructions provided how to build and install the new drivers. Support Wake-on-LAN and fits well in the usually unused PCI-Express slot.

Cons: You need to know how to build the Realtek Linux driver.

Pros: Cheap PCI-E Gig-E that comes with low profile backplate adapter for 1U installations.

Cons: The drivers on the CD dated 02.05.07 make XP/32bit lock up every now and then. Downloading the the more current drivers dated 12.05.07 before installation is recommended as usual.

Overall Review: This card is REALLY small. Made a nice upgrade to my wife's micro-atx/SFF case without adding clutter.
