In forward mode, the bridge allows traditional PCI chips and adapters to be used with the PCI Express processor system. Reverse bridge operation allows traditional PCI processors and chipsets to configure and control advanced PCI Express switches and endpoints.
In contrast, PEX 8112 not only allows the downstream PCI Express system to be completely configured from the PCI bus, but also handles limited PCI Express root functions for reverse interrupts and power management events.
