Some tips
The shinning side of the ribbon is back coat side and the other side is ink side. When loading a ribbon, always make sure to have the back side contact with the print head and the ink side contact with substrates.
Always use ribbons that are slightly wider than the label stock. Too wide will cause ribbon wrinkle during printing. Too narrow causes a white wear mark on the print head resulting in print head damage.
When it comes to thermal transfer printing, it is always a combination of printer, setting, label stock, ribbon. Make sure the printer is in good condition, decent and matched label and ribbon are used, settings on printing speed, temperature and pressure are right. For example, you wont get good image when the temperature setting is too low and too high will burn the film which is not good for the print head. Setting the temperature where just high enough to get good image is the best for the lifetime of the print head.
