Great unit with cables and software.3/29/2009 9:03:23 PM
Pros: Great working black unit. Comes with SATA cable, power cable and software. (PowerDVD 7, Nero 7 Essentials and more) Fast shipping. A problem free device.
Cons: Since nobody mentioned, that unit comes with cables I ordered extra one (for nothing).
Pros: Burns quite fast, and it's quieter than most burning drives I've used before. The tray comes out quiet and smooth. It came with a SATA cable, 4-pin power adapter, and software disk even though it's listed as an OEM
Cons: The drive stopped reading a disk after a few minutes the first day I had it, but it hasn't done it since then. Every so often the tray gets stuck when it closes causing it not to open. I have to fix it either by the emergency ejection, or unplugging it and plugging it back in.
Overall Review: It takes a while to get up to speed, but I don't see that as a con considering it's faster than any other drive I've used before.
Pros: VERY silent drive, writes at max speed and so far hasn't messed up any of the DVDs I have burned since receiving (~15.)
OEM, but came with software disc (Nero 7 Essentials, manual and a few other utilities), SATA cable, Molex to SATA power cable and some large bubbled bubble wrap that I enjoyed playing with.
Cons: None!
Overall Review: Didn't come with screws. Also, the tray is a bit slow but only a few milliseconds so nothing to complain about.
Pros: Works, pnp on WinXP SP3. Also got the bonus CD, power cable adapter & Sata cable. Firmware was up to date at installation.
Cons: Drawer ejects slow & is not smooth, as if it may have issues down the road. Drive seems to be delayed spinning up; it's also slow to achieve the max data transfer rates on large files. Does seem pretty quick on seek time when installing apps or OS.
Overall Review: I purchased this LG drive & the "other" top selling brand at the same time & installed them on the same machine. I have ripped a few DVD's off of both drives & I must admit the "other TOP selling" brand rules as the primary drive choice for ripping on my machine. Lg has delays & is slow to build speed reaching the max data transfer rate. I also compared both drives in Nero drive test with a DVD installed. This testing proved the lacking performance from the LG compared to the Samsung sh-s223q. This drive was 4 minutes slower ripping Ha**ock than the Samsung on my machine.
My purchases of both drives were based on the high amount of reviews of both drives. Both drives were also winners of the Customer Choice Awards. Normally I do not make a review or care to voice an opinion, but being able to give a side by side "opinion" of what seems to be the 2 top selling SATA DVD Writers I figured i will post up what I have found.
Pros: Expected just an OEM drive and got so much more!! Other places would've charged more just for the software. Eject speed is Perfect. Reads old damaged disks that were previously unusable. QUIET! Great assistance from NEWEGG Custie support-give skylar a raise.
The Best DVD Burner I've ever owned4/16/2009 11:32:33 AM
Pros: This is the third time I've bought this burner, not because one died, but because I've been replacing burners in olders computers with these. They're quiet, fast and really hold up over time. I highly recommend this burner. Plus, you can't beat the price!
