Pros: Bright picture with crisp clarity for small text. Variety of pre-set picture options. Control buttons have legible icons so you know which button you're pressing (unlike our previous monitor).
Cons: Control button actions are not very intuitive for stepping through and adjusting various menu options.
Overall Review: After a few days' break-in period we found the sRGB picture pre-set to be easy on the eyes and good for pretty much everything on the internet. One exception is when we watched house-of-cards streamed from netflix. For that we chose a brighter pre-set picture (Theater mode, i think). Connecting the circular base to the monitor was easy. We laid the screen (with its protective wrapping still on) face down on the kitchen counter and tightened the single thumbscrew in the base nice and snug, no problem. It only fits on there one way so you won't get it wrong. We didn't notice any tendency for the monitor to wobble as some have mentioned, but then we don't sit there bumping it to try and make it wobble, either. Professional quality IPS monitors with super-accurate color still cost a small fortune. However, if what you want is bright clear images with nice color and crisp text then this ASUS VS238H-P should do a good job for you.
Pros: *LED Backlit = save more on $$$ *I got three of these to replace my LCD-only models, power bill dropped by about $20.00 a month :o *LED-LCD seem to run a slightly higher risk of getting dead pixels - but with three monitors, two of them have a dead pixel but I dont really notice it 99% of the time. *Cheap! *Thin *Wall mountable *"Modes" offer easy customization to give you the best possible lighting/contrast
Cons: *It isnt free *They aren't 40"
Overall Review: *If you are in the market for an LED-LCD monitor for your computer, or for a TV, or even for a console - this will do the job. There aren't speakers built into these, so you'll need a dedicated sound system but I assure you. Its worth it.
Pros: Very clear picture. Color seems to be perfect. The picture on this monitor is so good that I changed it to my main monitor, despite it being 1" smaller than my other monitor. Just a great purchase. Also, got it as an open box item for about $90... pure win.
Cons: None, this thing is perfect for me.
Overall Review: An amazing monitor. I got very lucky to get it open box, and to get that excellent price. I think it is worth paying full price for this monitor, it is easily worth $200 in my opinion.
Pros: Really bright screen with perfect color and brightness. A little bright out of the box but easily adjusted. Couldn't ask for a better monitor.
Cons: Menu takes some getting used to. Not very intuitive.
Pros: Price - Comparable e-IPS displays from other manufacturers are $200+ (see LG) e-IPS panel - Viewable from virtually any angle Matte display - Reflections from nearby lights do not impact the display. Great for nightime/sunlight users. Negligible ghosting - 5ms response time combined with the built in Trace-free feature set to 60 eliminates most ghosting. This makes the monitor great for gaming and HD video watching. Only professional FPS players would need a higher response time. Thin - Roughly the thickness of a MacBook Pro! Very slim on a desk or a mount 100mm VESA - Standard mounting holes w/ removable black rubber covers to hide the holes for users that prefer to rock the stand (blends in if not mounted) Power efficient - 24-30 W after calibration 3 yr warranty/exchange: Asus will replace your monitor within 3 years and pay for shipping both ways. I haven't tried this myself, but I hear Asus customer service is above average for the industry. Thinner than average bezel Matte back - Has a carbon-fiber-like texture on the back that makes it look modern
Cons: No built in gamma correction - Must be adjusted using your video card e-IPS - Unlike higher quality IPS panels there is a very small amount of color/gamma distortion if viewed at an angle. However it is still exponentially better than any TN panel. Higher quality panels that completely remove this effect cost $400+ currently and only graphic designers/photo editors really need that level of color accuracy. Costs $40 more than cheaper TN panels - Extra cost for the latest generation display. Better viewing angles and colors. You be the judge.
Overall Review: First off to address the complaints of "graininess" observed by some owners due to the matte finish: Lower your brightness! The pearly shimmery effect is only noticeble at the maximum 100% brightness which is around 270 cd/m2 (~20 cd/m2 higher than advertised). However, at the max brightness level, most users would find it uncomfortable to use for more than 30 minutes anyway. The factory settings are only set to this max limit to impress buyers in stores and when they turn on the monitor for the first time! The recommended comfortable brightness level for any monitor during regular use is 120 cd/m2 which translates to a setting of 35-40% brightness on this model. The user can easily change this setting through the OSD menu using the built in buttons. Recommended calibration settings: Brightness: 35 Contrast: 80 Red: 100 Green: 100 Blue: 98 Trace free: 60 These are the settings I came up with after calibration. They can be used as a starting point or ballpark figures if you don't feel like spending hours reading up on monitor calibration techniques. Your actual ideal monitor values might vary slightly. TL:DR Best price/value monitor currently on the market <$200
Pros: Great monitor, 1ms rate, flawless colors. Easy to Setup. For those who complained: you obviously know nothing about Up and Down buttons.. Quality seems a bit on the high end. (Plastic is plastic)
Cons: Before you complain about colors: If you have the Nvidia control panel on your PC, make sure you go to Display > Adjust desktop color settings > and select 'Digital Color Format' and select YCbCr444. Use this setting if you hooked up via HDMI-to-HDMI. You will be amazed at how much this makes a difference. If you hooked up a different way, go to start > search for 'Calibrate display color' and change it that way.
Overall Review: As I said previously, when I first bought this monitor and hooked it up I wanted to return it. The colors looked horrible. (Black was basically grey) Well, after fooling around it turned out to be the setting I mentioned in the cons. Fixed it right up! D If this is your issue don't bother changing all the settings on the monitor itself as they will only mask the true problem. Like I said, you will be amazed at how much better your monitor looks by one setting modification.
Pros: 24 inches of widescreen goodness. Crisp rendering. Bright and vibrant.
Cons: The base is cheesy and somewhat restrictive, but not a huge deal. The controls are also awkward (under the lip of the bezel) and, as this display is pretty lightweight, you have to steady the top of the display with one hand while pushing the buttons on the bottom. But once they're set, it's not really an issue I guess.
Overall Review: IMPORTANT! For some reason the compare charts and details list this display as not having DVI.. even though the product photos clearly show the connection. After ordering this I panicked and ended up buying two unneeded DVI->HDMI adapters. The details listing for this product is incorrect, and this display does in fact use DVI, HDMI and dSub connections.
Pros: LED IPS Display (Good color reproduction) Low Power Consumption (29.5 watts) Wall mountable Standard monitor power cord (No power brick) Physical buttons No dead pixels Matte Screen (Non Glossy) Has a lot of options to change the color and saturation settings to your liking.
Cons: Stand is a little flimsy Bezel is glossy and kind of annoying, matte would be better, no finger prints, no reflections.
Overall Review: The bezel is little thicker than I would like but its not that bad.
