Pros: Great screen. Clear image, perfect contrast, overall great monitor.
Cons: Two major major let downs.
First, if you own a nVidia GTX5xx or GTX6xx video card, this monitor will not work with it. This monitor and Samsung monitors have a issue where the monitor reports DisplayPort v1.2 capable, so video cards will output DisplayPort 1.2 signal to it, but the monitors are only capable of DisplayPort 1.1. This means this monitor will not work in BIOS, nor easily in Windows. (I have to power cycle the monitor every time it goes in Standby once windows is booted to get a signal). It is not a nVidia issue as they have fixed their latest drivers, but a firmware issue with this monitor.
Second issue is the PIP function will not work between DVI and HDMI. It will not allow you to use DVI as a source and HDMI as a PIP or vice versa. Any other combo with VGA or DisplayPort will work fine. This basically makes it impossible to do what I bought it for as I have a XBox 360 via HDMI and my PC via DVI and cant do display port because of above issue.
Overall Review: Had I known of either of the two major issues before buying, I would have purchased a different brand monitor. However for any other function other than PIP and using DisplayPort it functions pretty well.
Pros: I play xbox first person shooters competitively online and this is the best screen I've ever seen a console hooked up to for that purpose! I decided to make the switch from my beautiful 42" Panasonic g15 plasma to a monitor so I could move the TV to my bedroom to watch blurays before bed. I could not be happier! I sit a little closer, but honestly for gaming, this monitor looks better then my darn nice tV. Highly Highly recommend to any console gamer! Its better then any TV as far as games go. Oh I bought this cuz the non webcam version is always out of stock and whats $15?
Cons: I know its just a monitor but a remote would be nice which leads me to... the monitor made me sick how absolutely horrible the picture looked out of the box! I actually enjoy setting my electronics up to perform their best but a remote would have made it take half the time or less. So be prepared to calibrate and do it with not the most intuitive controls. Oh and I've only noticed 2 slight instances of ghosting after about 16 hours of all out gaming. Verrrryyy slight to the point where I think im the only person who could've noticed something so small lol
Overall Review: My cons are not really cons as, after I got it setup, I could not be happier with my purchase. If you're gaming try these settings: brightness: 50-55, contrast: 60, saturation 47, sharpness: 60 or 80, change the red, green and blue all down to 60-65. It looks lifelike and sharp enough to see everything perfectly. That's with a x360 hooked up through hdmi. The only reason I put my tech level 5 is because I have a lot of experience with high end tvs and gaming on them for my computer parts reviews I put 4(: buy this monitor!
Pros: Screen size is big. Even at max resolution the icons and text are all nice and big and easy to read.
The LED uses less power and runs cooler.
NO dead pixels.
Cons: No mic on the webcam. Who at Asus thought it was a good idea to have a webcam and no mic? "Hey I can see you!...But I cant talk to you"
Also every now and then the screen blinks black for a split second. Dont know why. Using DVI to my vid card and at max resolution at 60hz
Overall Review: Geez was the screen bright!!
When you open a webpage that has a lot of white space my wife laughed as it looked like I was glowing with the amount of light hitting me from the monitor. Again (Probably the same person at Asus who decided no mic) The screen comes defaulted in Splendid mode. They must want to show it off. In this mode you try to adjust brightness and its makes no difference. Lowering the contrast to much in this mode makes the colors horrible.
You have to put the screen in standard mode first! then lower the brightness and contrast. man did this help a ton! I have brightness at 0! and contrast at 50. that's how bright this screen is. I can look at the screen without my eyes burning after 20 min now.
The screen is 2 feet in front of me, why have it so dang bright as default? Its a monitor, not a TV.
Pros: Looks good, good quality, sharp picture, no dead pixels, typical monitor inputs. Does what it's supposed to just the way I've come to expect Asus monitors to. Never buying another company's monitor again.
Cons: It's big. Have desk space. Not really a con, but some people don't realize just how wide a 24" widescreen is. Enjoy the extra real estate for your desktop.
Overall Review: I use this for my 360 and my computer. HAVEN'T TESTED THE WEBCAM. I've got this and a 22" version without a webcam. The 22" I've had for over a year now, and have had no issues at all. All my friends use either this or the 22" I have, and despite our differences and disagreements on things like Intel vs AMD, we all swear by Asus. Very good choice for monitors.
Pros: MUCH brighter and more vivid than my old monitor. And it's a beast, had to put my speakers behind it instead of side by side as there is no room left on me desk.
Cons: Not sure the official term for this, but bottom third of monitor is much brighter than top 2 thirds.
Overall Review: I'd be looking forward to a 27" monitor for a couple years now to replace my 21". I got a good deal on this here on Newegg, and my friend has the Asus 27" LCD.
In about 30mins after the newness wore off I was able to see a pretty big flaw in the monitor. I had read about it as a common issue, I believe to LED monitors.
But the bottom third of the monitor is noticeably brighter than the top two thirds. I had an orangey/gold desktop icon at the top of the screen. If I move it to the bottom of the desktop it becomes a washed out yellow. And this was after I calibrated the color/brightness a bit. Also with blacks, at the top they were nice rich black, at the bottom of the screen they became a dark/medium gray.
I was really excited for this upgrade, but ultimately disappointed. It's too bad, I have to send it back, not sure if it's worth gambling for one that doesn't have this. I really wanted to keep it though. If it didn't have this problem I'd probably give it a 5
Fast response, no ghosting.
Games look really good.
Speakers decently loud and stay at a good quality sound. (Obv not good enough for soundphiles, and hardcore gamers. I will be buying dedicated speakers soon, but these definitely do their job.)
Cons: Size is bigger than resolution based off the ppi. I had to set my GPU to a 15% overscale to fill the monitor with a 1920x1080 resolution.
When the monitor goes to sleep, it is a giant blue screen for a moment, which has scared the **** out of me twice now. I was lying down, and saw it out of the corner of my eye, and got scared I got a BSOD.
Overall Review: Mess with the pixel format if you see any form of bleeding. That fixed the reds looking odd.
Pros: Wow. That is the main primary word I can give it.
The contrast is outstanding!
The screen isn't reflective at all. I have my window facing my monitor and there's no reflection whatsoever.
The different viewing modes are quite a bit different, so finding one that's suitable is pretty easy.
The stand is very strong, and stays stable.
The bezel is pretty thin in my opinion.
I really like that the buttons are on the front and not the bottom.
The area around the camera is reflective. It looks pretty cool and also allows you to slightly see what you look like while on cam if you're not on the app with the camera being displayed.
I recognized a MASSIVE improvement in video watching and gaming. Even some improvements while browsing the web.
I do photo editing and some video editing on the side, and I noticed this monitor is amazing for it.
Cons: Cost, but that goes with a lot of technology these days.
The webcam should be a bit higher in MP, but for only 1 MP it is outstanding in quality.
Overall Review: I am coming from a 21.5" 1000:1 contrast ratio monitor as a reference.
For the people wondering in curiosity, the power light glows blue when on and it is orange in standby.
The stand has a radial design to it, but I can't call it a pro or con, just letting other people know.
Pros: ASUS knocked it out of the park with this one. Love this thing. Excellent for gaming because it's HUGE! Picture quality is outstanding. My unit had no dead pixels. Physical buttons instead of touch are a plus because they're never as sensitive as they should be and I always accidentally touch them when moving stuff around. Matte screen reduces glare (which is great since the window is behind me). Isn't that heavy making it easy to move around and install.
Cons: Like some of the other reviews, I agree it is a little wobbly but not a dealbreaker by any means. I stabilized my desk against the wall and it eliminated most of the wobbling. Webcam is only 2MP, but I don't really care. If I did, I'd get an HD cam or something.
Overall Review: Can't speak about the speakers since I haven't used them and don't plan to. Have my own audio setup. For the price, this is a great monitor. After reading tons of reviews on a dozen different monitors, I settled with this one and could not be happier. Nice job ASUS.
