Question 1

Should I get the ASUS VG34WQ5A or the older TUF VG34VQL3A?

Accepted Answer

Choose the VG34WQ5A if you want the higher listed native refresh rate and a dual-mode option: it supports 3440×1440 at up to 200Hz or 1720×720 at up to 400Hz. The VG34VQL3A is a 34-inch, 3440×1440 VA ultrawide rated for up to 180Hz. Both have a 1500R curve and DisplayHDR 400; the VG34WQ5A’s main differentiator is its higher refresh rate and 720p 400Hz mode.

Question 2

ASUS VG34WQ5A or Alienware AW3425DW: which 34-inch ultrawide should I choose?

Accepted Answer

Choose the VG34WQ5A for a Fast VA panel, 3440×1440 at up to 200Hz, and a 720p 400Hz mode. Choose the Alienware AW3425DW if you prefer a QD-OLED panel and 3440×1440 at up to 240Hz; Dell lists its response time as 0.03ms GTG and supports DisplayHDR True Black 400. The choice is between the ASUS’s dual-mode VA setup and the Alienware’s higher-refresh OLED specification.

Question 3

Is the VG34WQ5A a good fit if I play both ultrawide games and competitive shooters?

Accepted Answer

It can suit both uses if you want one curved 34-inch monitor: use 3440×1440 at up to 200Hz for ultrawide gaming, or switch to 1720×720 at up to 400Hz for games where you prioritize the highest listed refresh rate. The 400Hz mode uses lower resolution, so choose a conventional 16:9 esports monitor instead if you specifically want a native 16:9 layout or higher-resolution competitive play.

Question 4

Is this monitor suitable for both gaming and office multitasking?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Its 34-inch 3440 × 1440 ultrawide display offers room for side-by-side work, while the 200Hz WQHD refresh rate, FreeSync Premium, and ELMB Sync support gaming. It also supports PIP/PBP for viewing multiple inputs. Its stand adjusts by tilt only, so check whether that meets your ergonomic needs.

Question 5

Can it display two computers or video sources at the same time?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The monitor supports PIP/PBP, so it can show multiple inputs at once. It has two DisplayPort 1.4 ports and two HDMI 2.0 ports. This is separate from arranging multiple app windows from a single computer, which is controlled by that computer’s operating system or software.

Question 6

Does it have speakers and a webcam for video meetings?

Accepted Answer

It has two built-in 2W speakers, but no built-in webcam. The speakers can handle basic audio; use a separate webcam for video calls.

Question 7

Can it be wall-mounted, and does the included stand adjust for height?

Accepted Answer

It can be mounted using a compatible 100 × 100mm VESA mount. The included stand supports tilt adjustment only; it does not provide height adjustment.

Question 8

Is the VG34WQ5A a good upgrade for casual gaming from a 60Hz ultrawide?

Accepted Answer

It may suit someone who wants a larger, faster ultrawide: the monitor is 34 inches, 3440 × 1440, and supports up to 200Hz in WQHD. A Reddit discussion recommended it to a casual gamer considering an upgrade from a 60Hz ultrawide, but that recommendation is anecdotal, not a review.

Question 9

Should I be concerned about ghosting or smearing on this monitor?

Accepted Answer

Community reports are mixed and limited. One Reddit discussion describes minimal smearing after calibration, while its more negative example concerns the related VG34WQML5A—not this exact model. Treat those comments as anecdotal; they do not establish how much ghosting the VG34WQ5A will show in your games.

Question 10

What should I know if the monitor only runs at 60Hz over DisplayPort?

Accepted Answer

One owner reported a 60Hz limit and a no-signal issue when trying DisplayPort 1.4, but the discussion did not confirm a definitive fix. The product information lists DisplayPort 1.4 and a 200Hz WQHD mode, so a single report is not evidence of a general limitation; check the connection and detected display modes if this occurs.
