The ASUS ROG Strix SCAR 18 is a high-performance gaming laptop with an Intel Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus, GeForce RTX 5090 Laptop GPU, 64GB of DDR5 memory, and 4TB of SSD storage, suited to gamers and creators who need powerful hardware in an 18-inch system.
Recommended For
- Desktop-replacement gamers who play demanding PC games at a desk and want an 18-inch 4K, 240 Hz display paired with flagship laptop graphics.
- Creators who edit high-resolution video, render 3D scenes, or use GPU-intensive creative software at a primary workstation and value a large, high-resolution screen.
- Developers and power users running demanding local AI or compute-heavy workloads who need a high-performance laptop they can keep plugged in at a desk.
- Users who want a large-screen gaming and creation setup with room to expand memory and SSD storage as their projects or game library grow.
Real-World Use Scenarios
- When playing demanding single-player games on the built-in 4K display, players can start with high visual settings and use DLSS when a game is too demanding at native resolution; testing found that some games still need settings or ray tracing compromises.
- For fast-paced games, players can lower graphics settings to prioritize frame rate and make use of the 240Hz display; this is a better fit for high-refresh play than expecting demanding games at maximum settings to reach 240 fps.
- When editing video or working on 3D projects at a desk, users can preview complex work on the large high-resolution screen; a reviewer also reported smooth 8K video timelines and responsive 3D tracking on a SCAR 18 review unit.
- For a home gaming or work setup, users can connect a wired network and external display or accessories while keeping the laptop as the main computer; its large chassis makes it more suited to a desk than frequent commuting.
- When switching between large creative projects, games, and many open applications, the 64GB memory and 4TB of storage provide room for substantial workloads and local files without relying on external drives for everyday use.
