The pocket-sized Garmin nüvi 265WT gives you turn-by-turn voice directions with spoken street names and a touch-sensitive, full-color widescreen, so it’s easy to stay on course! The nüvi mounts quickly with an included suction cup mount and adhesive dash disk, and pops off with a gentle tug, so you can take it with you. The Li-ion battery lets you use nüvi to navigate on foot for up to 4 hours between charges, so you can let it lead the charge when you’re making sales calls, or out for a day of shopping conquest.

The unit ships with preloaded regional maps, and includes a huge database of Points of Interest (POI), like gas stations, restaurants, attractions and parks, and shopping. You can also use the Garmin POI Loader software (free download) to install custom POI like traffic camera locations and school zones, and then set proximity alerts to warn you when you’re approaching one.

This Garmin also has a built-in FM traffic receiver to help you avoid sitting in traffic jams. The Garmin nüvi 265WT is a slick entry into the auto GPS market with the great price!

2 out of 5 eggsgood for rural/sub-urban navigation ONLY

Pros: price point, garmin

Cons: extremely unreliable in major canadian cities, often mistaking position at underpass, losing signal in tunnels, and false "quickest route(due to local knowledge).

Other Thoughts: extremely underwhelmed, ill just stick to google map to get idea of general area and main roads, and then wing it from there as usual

4 out of 5 eggsOver all very good

Pros: Easy to use, generally very accurate, never has a problem connecting to a satellite, has lifetime traffic updates.

Cons: You pay for map updates, Will sometimes take you the back way (two lane roads, through towns/areas with heavier traffic) instead of the highway.

Other Thoughts: The traffic updates are not perfect, but that's not a surprise. Anything claiming to have live traffic updates needs a reliable source and you can't always have that. This is generally a very accurate and nice GPS to use, the worst part is doing a traffic update. It is (as others here have noted) a bit time consuming... and not free. If you get a free map update I suggest that you make use of it, because paying for map updates stinks (and is becoming a thing of the past).

4 out of 5 eggsWhining about map updates

Pros: Efficient, effective, intuitive.

Cons: Garmin suction mounts suck and always have...charge a little more and include a friction mount.

Other Thoughts: To the whiner who complains that he gets Windows update free and Garmin is cheap because they charge for map updates...just a clue to the unknowing. Windows charges for updates for a new OS, what they do not charge for is updates to errors and/or security issues with their OS. Also, the do not support them forever; their are cut-off dates for security and compare Garmin's charging for map updates to Windows free updating of improperly published programs that leave you pc vulnerable to hackers is wholly unfair.

2 out of 5 eggsI would skip!

Pros: When it worked it was wonderful.

Cons: Power connection is too fragile. I have bought thee connections at $35 plus shipping. I feel cheated. This is unacceptable.

Other Thoughts: They should recall this design mistake. Where the power connection plugs in the little silver part breaks loose and you can no longer charge or operate. Not good! Skip this one and pick a Garmin with Lifetime Maps such as the 1390LM

1 out of 5 eggsItem arrived nonfunctional

Pros: Impossible to assess -- this item was nonfunctional on arrival.

Cons: I turned it on, plugged it into a wall charger and into the computer, reset the unit, and tried every other trick I could find. No matter what, the item would only stay turned on for 30 seconds, then power itself off. Even hooked into the power supply, it still turned itself off and on over and over. Do not buy.

Other Thoughts: It's tempting to buy this thing, because apparently some other users have had good luck with it. I did not. I don't recommend taking a gamble on it.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: * Simple interface
* Easy to use
* Gets the job done

Cons: * Not as detailed as TomTom
* Wish there was an on-screen current time clock; might be just a setting I have to change on the device though
* Does not have lane assist

Other Thoughts: If you are a simple person, this is not a bad buy. After all, a GPS will get you to your destination one way or another, and that is what matters.

2 out of 5 eggsGarmin

Pros: Very nice unit and has good features

Cons: Map updates not included. What are u thinking Garmin????? oh they are thinking about thier pocket book.

Other Thoughts: I dont pay for Windows updates, the manufacturer (Micosoft) supplies them for free just as Garmin should supply them if you purchase thier unit. Very unacceptable. I will never buy again.
