4 out of 5 eggsMake sure you have room

This review is from: Phanteks PH-TC14PE_RD 140mm UFB (Updraft Floating Balance) CPU Cooler

Pros: Very quiet and powerful. The clip design for the fans is great. Looks good despite its size.

Cons: The package includes 2 4pin fans, but it comes with a 3 pin Y splitter so I had to purchase a separate splitter.

Other Thoughts: It's very large and goes over 2 of the ram slots on my motherboard. I'm only using 2 sticks so I was able to fit them fine, but if you're intending to use all 4, make sure you have low profile ram.

5 out of 5 eggsThis thing is huge...

This review is from: Phanteks PH-TC14PE_RD 140mm UFB (Updraft Floating Balance) CPU Cooler

Pros: Keeps my CPU in the low 50's (Celsius) when I run my OCCT stability test. I haven't overclocked yet but for an air cooler this is quite impressive considering I was running at max load for 2 hours...

Also the mounting instructions are incredibly straight forward and easy to follow (at least for me)

The red matches my system theme perfectly and the fans run fairly quiet... Not quite at the Noctua level in build quality but close enough for my needs.

This thing looks amazing in a case that has a see trough side panel... It simply dominates the inside of the case.

Cons: This thing is huge and is a pain to install... Even in my case which is decent sized (Enermax Coenus Mid-Tower) I found screwing the heat sink onto the bracket incredibly difficult and hooking cables up to your mobo after you install it is some what difficult so having small hands would help...

Other Thoughts: Great piece but for the price you might as well go with water cooling, however if you don't like the idea of a possible failure in your water cooler piping then this air cooler is great for you! Easily one of the most capable air coolers currently on the market

5 out of 5 eggsWell built and great support

This review is from: Phanteks PH-TC14PE_RD 140mm UFB (Updraft Floating Balance) CPU Cooler

Pros: Well built, quality materials, looks great, not overly difficult to install.

Cons: Huge but I knew that before buying it.

Other Thoughts: I had a question about the install and called their support line. Someone answered in 2 rings and was able to help me immediately. It was surprising because I'm used to being on hold for at least a little while and then rarely getting a qualified person. Kudos to Phanteks on their excellent support. I'll definitely buy their products in the future.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Phanteks PH-TC14PE_RD 140mm UFB (Updraft Floating Balance) CPU Cooler

Pros: Very quiet cooler and it fits nicely in my Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 case. My case fans are louder than cpu fans does.

The cooler is on par with the NH-D15 and other 120mm AIO water coolers out in the market.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: 4670K delidded with this cooler, very awesome.

3 out of 5 eggsBad PWM connector

This review is from: Phanteks PH-TC14PE_RD 140mm UFB (Updraft Floating Balance) CPU Cooler

Pros: Great Cooling capabilities. Idle temp @ 27 degrees Celsius on a slightly overclocked I5 4770K @ 3.6ghz. Comes well packaged. Somewhat easy to install the fans for such a big Cpu cooler inside a mid size Antec 902 V3 case. Comes with some good fans although they are only 3-pin and not PWM themselves. Overall looks very big, but sexy inside an all red and black case.

Cons: The PWM controler/attachment it came with is GARBAGE! It has not worked properly since I bought the cooler. Every time I boot up my motherboard reports a "CPU Fan error" on post, and forces me to go into bios to bypass the error. I have tested other fans on my Asus VI Hero motherboard and they all work fine. Sometimes the PWM controller won't even provide enough power to the fans to start spinning. I have had to on multiple occasions take out the side panel of case and nudge on the fans lightly to get it spinning on its own. After a few weeks of this trouble i have had to take out the entire cooler to take out the PWM controller and plug in the 3-pin fan connectors to the motherboard directly. Since I took out the PWM controller my computer has been booting up with no issues/error messages. However, the fans have been noticeably louder, since they constantly run on a certain range of speed at all times without the PWM. Lastly, it is HUGE! So be prepared to get a few cuts and pricks during installation, but that's the price you pay for good cooling.

Other Thoughts: To sum it up... its a big colored cooler that works well, but you may run into installation and component performing issues. Plan ahead prior to installation and might want to connect the fan cables into the motherboard before seating the cooler itself for installation. You may not have enough headroom in your case to plug in the cables to the top CPU fan plugs on your motherboard., and for cable management purposes.

5 out of 5 eggsWhat the...

This review is from: Phanteks PH-TC14PE_RD 140mm UFB (Updraft Floating Balance) CPU Cooler

Pros: Amazzinnngg.... So it was kinda tough putting it in my case. would have been smarter taking out the mobo and then installing but it was a fun experience. This cpu cooler BARELY fits in my bitfenix shinobi case. if i tap the side panel. you here it tap the top of the cooler. The temps on this never go past 85 degrees Fahrenheit which is very pleasing.

Cons: It cut me in the process of installing but that is my fault for it happening.

Other Thoughts: not the exact red i was looking for but then again you dont wanna take away the cooling performance with a thick layer of paint/coating

5 out of 5 eggsKing of Air Coolers

This review is from: Phanteks PH-TC14PE_RD 140mm UFB (Updraft Floating Balance) CPU Cooler

Pros: Equal to most dual 120/140mm closed loop water cooling kits. (Corsair, Thermaltake, Cooler Master)
Amazing cooling capacity. Cools my i7-3930k @ 4.5GHz to 41C idle. Tried and true heat pipe tech with dual 140mm quiet fans.
Less costly, quieter and more reliable than the water cooler it replaced. Can accept a 3rd 140mm cooling fan for and extra 2C cooling.
I read the directions, sorted out all the parts for my socket 2011 setup and watched a you-tube video of it being put together just to be sure. As massive as this thing is (almost a full 1kg), it is not going anywhere while the computer is stationary. I would not ship a PC with it installed though. This unit was ranked either the #1 air cooler or within a 1 or 2 degree margin of error of the number one on all the reviews I read at the time I purchased it. Oh, it's pretty quiet but I have servers and a 1200watt/channel Crown XTi-JBL setup that drowns out noise and excessive thinking.

Cons: This is a large cooler. There is no doubt about this. There were some clearance concerns about both the RAM and quad side panel 120mm fans with this cooler installed but all my concerns were unfounded. My Corsair 600T has plenty of room to both install and get my hands to PWM connectors. I currently only have the 2 included 140mm fans installed on the Phantek but will be ordering a 3rd fan. I can install this over my G.Skill Ripjaws Z sticks but they are completely covered by the Phantek.

Other Thoughts: Intel i7 3930K @ 4.5GHz on Rampage IV Extreme
32GB Ripjaws Z @ 2133MHz Seasonic 1k Watt platinum
Quad SSD Vertex RAID 0 boot, Saphire 7970, Asus Xonar STX
Corsair 600T mid tower with 4-120mm Red LED fans on the side panel, 2 corsair 120mm high static pressure fans in top, 200mm stock fan in front + 1 more RED 120mm TT fan in back.
This Phantek out cools my old Thermaltake CLW0217 240mm water cooling kit by 10-15 degrees F at idle. I installed the Phantek with the same Gelid GC Extreme paste I used on the Water 2.0. In fact I always thought my idle temps on the water kit were high at 124F idle. The Phantek averages out at about 108F for all 6 cores. I really wish I knew how people were getting 32C idle temps on their 3930's. I do have a fair amount of voltage to get 4.5GHz stable but it runs for up to 60 days at a time without a restart (old warmer cooler). I bought the Phantek because the closed loop cooler failed. I could not make it pump consistently. I would shake, thump and smack the pump and radiator but the temps would always rise as the flow would eventually stop. The only way I will replace this Phantek setup is with a custom water loop.( $600+)

4 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Phanteks PH-TC14PE_RD 140mm UFB (Updraft Floating Balance) CPU Cooler

Pros: Quiet, Cool and comes with a lot of accessories.

Cons: Could be tough to fit in certain cases depending on clearance. RAM clearance can also be an issue if the sticks have large heatspreaders.

Fan installation is also a bit annoying but that's a minor issue.

4 out of 5 eggsCools great

This review is from: Phanteks PH-TC14PE_RD 140mm UFB (Updraft Floating Balance) CPU Cooler

Pros: Keeps my i7 4770K nice and cool (around 33°C) and is very quiet! Works really well. Leaves plenty of room for ram underneath the heatsink.

Cons: The bracket I received that holds down the heatsink was pretty difficult to install. It seemed to be bent on one side so the threaded holes did not line up with the studs. Using some pliers, I was able to bend it back to make it work. Would have given it 5 eggs if not for this issue.

Other Thoughts: My build:
Asus Maximus VI Hero
i7 4770K @ 3.5GHz
Evga GTX660Ti 2GB
2x Mushkin Enhanced Blackline 8GB DDR3 2133
OCZ V4 Sata III SSD 128GB
Western Digital 2TB 6Gb/s HDD
Cooler Master Silent Pro 1000W PSU
Zalman Z11 case

5 out of 5 eggsPretty Good

This review is from: Phanteks PH-TC14PE_RD 140mm UFB (Updraft Floating Balance) CPU Cooler

Pros: Keeps the CPU cool, easy installation, quiet, well sized

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: At first, I was worried that the cooler would be too large and will obstruct the RAMs, but I was wrong. The cooler leave so much space underneath that I can actually swap the RAM out (of course with some more work then usual.)

My spec:
i5-4670K
GTX 760-SC
G.Skill Ripjaw 1600MHz 4G*2
Asus Z87-Pro Mobo

I was able to OC the 4670K to 4.4GHz stable, which is pretty good for air cooled Haswell.
