The NH-L12 is a low-profile quiet cooler designed for use in small form factor cases and HTPC environments. With its flexible NF-F12 (120mm) / NF-B9 (92mm) dual PWM fan setup, the NH-L12 can be configured either for full performance in dual fan mode or extra-low profile (66mm) with the top fan removed. Bundled with the award-winning NT-H1 thermal compound and Noctua’s SecuFirm2 multi-socket mounting system, the NH-L12 packs everything a premium quality quiet cooler needs into a highly compact package.

  • newegg 120/92mm dual fan design Thanks to its exquisite dual fan setup consisting of Noctua’s highly optimised NF-F12 (120mm) and NF-B9 (92mm) premium fans, the NH-L12 pushes the bar in terms of low-profile quiet cooling performance.
  • newegg Extra-low profile in 92mm single-fan mode The NH-L12 can be used with the NF-B9 92mm fan only in order to reduce the overall height to 66mm. This way, the cooler is suitable for many typical ATX or Mini-ITX enclosures and ideal for whisper-quiet HTPC systems.
  • newegg PWM support and Low-Noise Adaptors The NH-L12’s NF-F12 and NF-B9 fans support PWM for convenient automatic speed control. In addition, the maximum fan speed can be reduced to 1200/1300rpm using the supplied Low-Noise Adaptors for even quieter operation.
  • newegg SecuFirm2 mounting system Noctua’s enthusiast grade SecuFirm2 multi-socket mounting provides broad socket compatibility (LGA 2011, LGA1366, LGA1156, LGA1155, LGA775, AM2, AM2+, AM3, AM3+, FM1) and meets the highest demands in safety, performance and ease-of-use.
  • newegg Mini-ITX mounting without backplate Some Intel based Mini-ITX mainboards don’t allow for the installation of backplates. The NH-L12 thus comes with an extra set of Intel mounting bolts which make it possible to install the cooler without using the SecuFirm2 backplate.
  • newegg NT-H1 thermal compound Noctua's much-acclaimed NT-H1 is a well proven pro-grade TIM solution that provides minimum thermal resistance, excellent ease-of-use and outstanding reliability.

5 out of 5 eggsQuiet and Cool. What more do you need?

Pros: Very quiet and keeps my CPU cool. This thing get a lot of weird looks seeing how its flat on the CPU instead of being on its side like most aftermarket coolers, but its a beast. I bought it for a mid-tower case and it fits great, works great. Would buy for another system in a heartbeat.

Cons: Had some RAM clearance issues for a bit, but I'll chalk that up to my MOBO layout.

Other Thoughts: I know its Noctua's thing to have the brown scheme, but I dig it. More of a statement than a clash of colors.

5 out of 5 eggsTop notch

Pros: Very high quality parts and slick packaging. Super quiet.

Cons: None. Minor comment; you are paying a lot for the box.

Other Thoughts: Installed after replacing lesser quality coolers for my 17 Photoshop machine. You get what you pay for in this department and Noctua delivers a solid product.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

Pros: This thing is perfect. It isn't too large but is still a major improvement over the stock cooler. It's a Noctua, high quality, performance, and easy installation is what this thing is about. It is easier than the stock intel cooler to install. Did I mention quiet? It is. Don't wait any longer. If you are thinking about this over another cheaper average cooler as an alternative to the stock cooler, buy this.

Cons: None. If you do your homework, make sure this fits in your case / on your mobo. Had only one option to install this without blocking my mini ATX boards PCIE slot and the other was hitting my ram.

Other Thoughts: This is the first Noctua product I have purchased and I'm never recommending another over it (Unless someone literally can't afford it). Worth the money.

5 out of 5 eggsTotaly silent

Pros: Easy to install. Silent. Very efficient cooling kit. Excellent design and awesome quality package. Noctua is Noctua, what can you expect more?

Cons: One thing, color needs to be changed but it is its trademark. You know it's a Noctua when you see the beige-brown fans.

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent cooler, but doesn't work well with "tall" memory DIMMS

Pros: This is a very, very quiet, very, very effective cooler, and it's short enough to go into my Zalman HD160XT home theater PC case (with both fans installed on the cooler) with room to spare (which is better than my old system in that case could claim, as I struggled to find a good cooler which would fit at all!)

Cons: The cons are simply this... the device's finned region overhangs the inner four memory slots on my Asus X99 Deluxe motherboard, and my Dominator DDR4 memory DIMM are too tall to occupy those slots unless I disassemble the heat spreader plates from those DIMMs. ("Plain vanilla" DIMMs without heat spreaders should work just fine.) Asus recommends using alternating DIMM slots for best memory function, but that is impossible using this CPU cooler and any higher-end memory DIMMs.

Other Thoughts: I really wish that they made a version which was about 1/2" TALLER, to clear the DIMM slots entirely. I have a full 1-1/4" between the top of my (full size) HTPC case and the topmost elements of this cooler.

The cooler itself is wonderfully made, and very effective, but the design seems to have been made with the idea of a short case and very basic memory DIMMs installed. I'm going to keep it, but I'm not ENTIRELY satisfied with it as a result, and may replace it at some point in the future (even though it does a marvelous job of cooling my 5820K CPU).

5 out of 5 eggsJust what I needed

Pros: Extremely quiet unit, with an incredibly easy install. Very effective when compared to the stock fan. AMD-8350 chip stock fan kept processor at a steady 60ºC (about 40ºC over ambient) under normal operation with no OC, and would run upwards of 65dB in noise which is ridiculous, could hear it through 2 doors. After install I couldn't push temp past 45ºC no matter what load I put on the cpu, and could not hear the cpu fan over the case fans.

Install- The low profile makes this a great choice for lots of mid-tower cases, also the fans on the heat sink itself can easily be adjusted one way or the other. I have a gigabyte 990fx mobo which can be a little tricky for placing an after market fan, if you are occupying all ram slots.

Cons: no cons at this time.

Other Thoughts: after a couple days of getting baseline temperature and noise readings, I will begin overclocking and find out what this thing can really do. But under the heaviest load I have given it, the temperature varied about 3ºc, and there was no audible difference.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Cooler

Pros: Very high quality packaging and heatsink/fans. The mounting system is very easy to use. The same as the D-14 and most other Noctua products. The fans are very very quiet and even at max speed are drowned out by my other case fans. A plus of this cooler is that since it blows air down onto the motherboard, it coolers the socket, power delivery, RAM, and back of the GPU. Motherboard temp sensors showed consistently low temps for the power delivery and RAM. Pretty good temps at idle and stock clocks. Cores idle between 27-32 C at stock clocks (i7-4770k). In game temps are great as well. Playing War Thunder all the cores average around 40-45C with Core 1 being at around 55C (at 100% usage).

Cons: This cooler is not for overclocking. Do not buy this is you plan to overclock. It simply cant handle it. I ran prime95 (stock clocks (i7-4770k) with fans at maximum (Corsair 350D case with 2 Aerocool Sharks pulling in air from the front)) and the temps were in the mid 60's (Celsius) . After about the 5 mins they had climbed to the low 70's. I left it for about 2 hours and came back to find some of the cores where in the high 70's. Initially this cooler does a decent job but after a while it gets heat soaked and temps begin to soar. I opened the side panel and touched the heat pipes which were pretty toasty. To the point where it was began to burn after about 5 seconds. The fins were also very warm so at least it was wicking the heat away.

Other Thoughts: Very low profile and doesn't obstruct anything. A tab bit overpriced in my opinion but it is still a good value. Great cooler for a small and silent build.
