- Pros: Very quiet, even at full speed, nice large heat pipes. Running and i5 OC'd to 3.6 GHz at 35/62 C idle/load.
- Cons: The fan mounting was rather difficult, but there really isn't an easier way to go about it. I ended up prying the fins apart and jamming in the rubber mounts. It works, though, and doesn't warrant dropping an egg.
- Other Thoughts: Intel's stock coolers for the i5/i7 just don't seem to cut it. It's definitely worth it to invest in some better cooling for those cpus. I was going to buy a Dark Knight, however the back plate for it wasn't in stock for several weeks, so I bought this instead.
Fat Pipes
- Pros: Nice big heat pipes. 4-pin fan that's nearly silent at low speed and not whiny at high speed.
- Cons: Tall. Wide. Make sure you have room in your case. Also, for AM2/AM3 mounting in a standard desktop tower, the fan is going to be horizontal (either blowing air up or down.)
- Other Thoughts: I've got this on a 95 W processor in a nice big case with moderate airflow, and it's about 1 C above room temp. at idle. Under full load it will go up to about 20 C over ambient, still at a nearly silent fan speed. I'm pretty impressed.
I have it in an Antec P180, so it blows the hot air up and out through the case fan on the top. If you have a PSU there, then you're going to be putting your CPU-heat through your PSU.
great cooler great price
- Pros: Great cooler for the price. Dropped my load temps from 62/65 to 49/52 (E6500 @ 11x333). Pretty intelligently designed product. Fan attachment, mounting system (see note below), etc. High quality machining on base. Mine was nice and flat. Would buy another one in the future.
- Cons: Kinda sucks that you have to purchase the back plate separately.
- Other Thoughts: Be sure you buy the backplate for $7! Too massive to attached with included hardware. Newegg product code: N82E16835233020
