Zalman bills itself as the "quiet cooling solution" and they have a reputation for easy to use, reliable products. They also have a reputation for creating products that look as good as they run. A quiet, downward blowing 80mm ball bearing fan sits at the heart of an array of pure copper thin fins.

While it operates at a low 28 dBA in its normal 2500 RPM setting, its Silent Mode drops it nearly 50% to 18 dBA as well as eliminating vibration. With its unrestricted flow, it cools not only the VGA chipset and RAM, but the other VGA components.

The LED's within the fan reflecting off the copper surfaces makes the cooler look like an inferno as it draws damaging heat away from the VGA card by the pure copper base of the heatsink and it is transferred up into the orderly arrays of copper thin fins for dissipation.

  • newegg VFP Technology Armed with the VFP (Variable Fin Profile) technology, the Zalman VF1000 VGA cooler installs its fan inside the heatsink for maximizing dissipation surface area and cooling efficiency for your VGA card.
  • newegg Excellent Cooling Performance The Zalman VF1000 VGA cooler features 4 high performance heatpipes and pure copper high-density fins, plus an 80mm dual-ball bearing LED fan for premium heat dissipation of your VGA card.
  • newegg Included Fan Controller The Zalman VF1000 VGA cooler offers you a fan controller to adjust fan speed for controlling noise and fan speed according to the working condition of the VGA card.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Dropped GPU temp from 80C to 40C at idle.
Quiet as a mouse
Easy to install

Cons: Not enough heatsinks for my 4850HD. Need 12, but only 8 are included

Other Thoughts: Why does everything have to have an LED on it these days?

1 out of 5 eggsDid Nothing!!!

Pros: Looks raw

Cons: Did absolutely nothing to remove heat from my geforce 8800gtx! I replaced the stock cooling unit with this (and the required heat sink) and the idle temperatures and stress temperatures didn't change a bit. What a ridiculous product. How does something this expensive do absolutely nothing!!! What a waste of $100. I will never buy Zalman again. GPU is running at 58C on idle!

Other Thoughts: I wish I never wasted my time and money in this pointless product. I've seen people with a >10C change.... how?

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Graphics Card Cooler

Pros: Keeps HD 4850 cooler than stock, very quiet, glows blue.

Cons: Heatpipes stick up between crossfire connections, not a problem because of flexible jumper, but could be issue for Nvidia cards.

Other Thoughts: My HD 4850 was overheating with stock cooling (70C idle, 120C load, shutdown system...). This heatsink fits between two 4850s and dropped temps to 50C idle, 70C load. It is a lot quieter than stock cooling, but fan plug is three pin, so had to plug directly into motherboard (there is some fan controler included with the cooler, but I didn't use it because it is going 100% all the time anyway...)

5 out of 5 eggsBest upgrade on my computer

Pros: Quiet, a huge step up over my stock fans that came with my HD 4850. Temps cool way down while playing games (30-60C vs 70-90C) .

Cons: None, other then it cost money.

Other Thoughts: If you want to quiet down the PC, or lower temps for the price this fan should defiantly be on your list.

5 out of 5 eggsZalman king of cool

Pros: Super quiet even on the highest setting. Lowered the temps on my card drastically. Came with everything needed to easily mount the cooler on the card and even had a Zalman case badge in the box.

Cons: I wish it came with a 3pin to 4pin power converter since my motherboard did not have a free 3pin. Its large so a single slot card will take up 2 slots with this.

Other Thoughts: I got it to replace the stock cooler on my Radeon EAH4850. The card was running 80c-90c with the stock. Once I got the Zalman on there it went down to 40c-50c and made a heck of a lot less noise as well. I highly recommend this if you are having heat issues with a stock cooler.

5 out of 5 eggsSimply simple.

Pros: Silent, possibly the single quietest fan in my antec 900, even at 100% fan speed. Installs like a champ, it took a little fiddling around to figure out how the rubber/plastic pieces and all the screws went in considering that mine did not come with directions and I am assuming your will not either. The v-ram heatsinks went on easy and stayed on.

On a side note, it looks pretty!

Cons: I thought the price was a little bit high for a heatsink in fan but I later decided that did not matter once I got the box and realized all the extra goodies that it came with.

Other Thoughts: For air cooling I cannot complain, it gets the job done.

4 out of 5 eggsGood, maybe not great.

Pros: -Solid Copper (you can really see and feel the build quality)
-Adjustable fan settings independent of OS control
-Quieter than stock fan even at highest speed
-Extremely easy to install (took about 10-15mins for each card).

Cons: -Does not come with isopropyl alcohol wipes to clean chipsets (nitpicking, but if they call for it in the instructions, it should be included).

Other Thoughts: My case has liquid cooling for the CPU, and I wanted to eliminate one of the major sources of heat and noise from the rest of the components. I have two GTS 250s in SLI and after installing these, idle temps went from 55C to 48C, and load temps went from 65C to 57C. Around a 7-8C drop. The Arctic Silver 5 hasn't had enough time to truly burn in yet, so maybe another 1-3C drop will be observed. I must say, however, I expected a little bit more of a drop. Some people report drops of 15-20C in some cases but I can't complain too much. Good product for the money. Shop around, though. At the time of this review, I was able to find it around 20% cheaper on another website.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing cooler!

Pros: This keeps my gpu (Radeon 4850, 1GB VRAM)at 38-39 C (100.4 Fahrenheit - 102.2 Fahrenheit) when idle, and thats without a case fan (it broke). During a FurMark stress test with 8x MSAA, post proccessing, displacement mapping, and Xtreme Burn on, the temp levels at 50 C (122 degrees Fahrenheit)

It came with littler RAM heatsinks, which my card did not have, so that opens up RAM overclocking a little more.

It comes with thermal grease, but I used my own expensive one.

Cons: One little tiny annoyance is putting the springs on the 'n ipples', there's a trick to doing it. Hold the spring between finger and thumb as close to the end going onto the n ipple as possible, and turn while lightly pushing the spring on. If you just turn it like the instructions say, you'll be sitting there for eternity or until your head explodes with rage.

Other Thoughts: The instructions are out of date, for Radeon 4850 users, the n ipples are installed into the 5th hole from the center on the cooler. The manufacturers page (see the link in the manufactures and rebates tab) has updated installation info for the latest cards.

5 out of 5 eggsAw Sookies!

Pros: Got it for 42 dollars with free shipping.
Great packaging from Zalman, no shipping damage here.
Small, so it doesn't hit my side fans in a CM690.
Very high quality, superb fit and finish.
Works very well at cooling and prevents overheating.
Tape on the RAM sinks holds easily on the first try.

Cons: Blue LED (Gaudy, pointless bling drives up cost).
Fan Mate 2; I really hate this thing, whatta contraption!
Aluminum RAM sinks should be copper.
Fan connector should be the very tiny video card size.
Thermal paste included can easily be beaten.
These are trivial. Compared to the junk that is out there, this product is aces.

Other Thoughts: Using on an Asus 4870 1 gig, factory cooling allowed card to crash due to overheating, and this is in a very well-ventilated case.
