The Zalman 9700 CPU cooler offers high-performance cooling in a unique design. The heatsink and fin assembly are made from 100 percent copper for improved heat dissipation. The base is built of both copper and aluminum, keeping the overall weight of the unit down while providing optimal heat transfer to the triple set of copper pipes. The curved heat-pipe design allows them to draw twice the amount of heat away from the processor.

At the center of the aerodynamically optimized tunnel created by the fins is a 110mm, blue LED fan. Included is the company's Fan Mate 2 fan-speed controller. In Silent mode the fan spins at 1,250rpm and creates 19dBA of noise, but when you need extra cooling for demanding tasks you can shift it up to 2,800rpm to quickly force heat away from your CPU and other system components.

The 9700 is compatible with all single- and dual-core CPUs for Intel's Socket 775 and AMD’s Socket AM2/754/939/940. All the clips and backplates are included so there's nothing else to buy to get the unit attached to your motherboard in minutes. A tube of Zalman's own thermal grease is bundled in as well.

  • newegg Unique Heatpipe Design Three innovative, patented and curved heatpipes provide a heat transfer capacity matching that of six heatpipes designs for maximum performance.
  • newegg Aerodynamically Optimized Heatsink Layout and Ultra-Slim Fins A 100% copper heatsink with an aerodynamically optimized "tunnel" design and 0.2mm ultra-slim fins maximize heatsink efficiency with minimal weight and smoother airflow for optimum cooling.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat cooler for the price :)

Pros: Keeps my C2Q Q9400 cool, running the fan at about 2200RPM currently with the CPU overclocked to 3.72GHz. Idle temp around 35ºC, never goes past around 60ºC under full load with stress testing

Cons: Was a little bit tricky to install because of the size and the clip tension, but everything is good and snug. Motherboard has to be taken out in order to install the new heatsink mount. Also, due to size, it'd be best to try to get a case that's either a full tower or that has a bottom-mounted power supply...if my case had a top mounted one this thing would NEVER have fit...lol

Other Thoughts: Get it while it's hot, I would've got the 9900 instead but it was almost $20 more than this one (and a bit bigger from what I've read). Overall, best bang for your buck if you're looking for a quiet air cooler :)

5 out of 5 eggsZalman CNPS9700 CPU Cooler

Pros: I bought my first Zalman CNPS9700 on 11/18/2007 and was so pleased with its cooling capacity and performance that I purchased another one on 12/18/2007. On Record with Newegg.

Cons: None whatsoever.....

Other Thoughts: They have both been working perfectly in my Gaming and Office Computers. The best CPU coolers I have ever owned. Some people are supposedly having problems with installation. It is not an easy task and if you are not familiar with Motherboard hardware limitations, then you are going to have problems. Check out the Specifications-Compatibility before you buy the fan, so you don't end up giving the fan a bad rating. Remember to keep your fingers off the fins, they bend easy and can cut you. They are not hard to straighten out though. The Zalman CNPS9700 is an excellent CPU cooling fan and I will be buying another as long as it is available for another build.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat cooler!

Pros: keeps my cpu chilly (q6600), blue leds match my case fan and front leds. near silent too.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: in a decently ventilated case with ambient air temp @ 26C

idle-36C
load in Prime95-49C
(temps on hottest core, others run at 46c to 47c in p95)

4 out of 5 eggsGood overall.

Pros: The CPU Fan/Heatsink gets the cooling job done very well.
My Phenom II X4 940 was reaching 60'C in some games and when encoding a video. Now, it doesnt go over 50'C even with an overclock of 3.6Ghz and voltage 1.45V. Relatively easy install compared to an Intel socket.

Cons: I cut my hands with this thing. Installed it through blood. There's a warning about how sharp it is and to wear gloves however.
The Fan Mate 2 is of a low quality to be honest. The connection is a little loose and when the wires are twisted a bit to the side, the fan stops. I had a much better speed controller on a $40 one I had before. Connecting the Fan/Heatsink directly to the motherboard, makes it run at max RPM, it only has a 3 pin connector with no speed adjustments.

Other Thoughts: Great cooling. Quiet. But definitely made in China or somewhere out of low cost materials, besides the actual copper used. Fan Mate 2 sucks. That's why only 4 eggs.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing Cooler

Pros: Brought my i5 750 OC'd to 3.6gh to 35C idle and 65C with 10+ hours of Prime95.

Cons: Seemed a tiny bit loose when the bolts were completely tightened. After seeing temps it wasn't a problem.

5 out of 5 eggsTHE BOMB

Pros: people say,oh it only lowered my temps by 5-9 degrees c,well let me say for sure, this thing works like a dream.overclocked to 4.4 on a quad, temps where 75-80 c,could not oc any more.was undecided if to go water, good reviews, bad reviews on both.took a chance because it was alot cheaper, and other reasons.this 9700 dropped my temps, are you ready for this,30 DEGREES C.I am now running at 40 c.VERY VERY HAPPY. THANK YOU ZALMAN.

Cons: 00000000000000000000000000000000000

Other Thoughts: do it right the first time and you will not have to do it again.

5 out of 5 eggsGood fan

Pros: It's huge, it's copper and it's made by Zalman. Nuff said.

Cons: Not really a con of the fan itself, but it's having a heck of a time trying to keep my AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition under 50 deg Celsius (no overclock). I know my current case is terrible with air flow so I took the side panel off and stuck my 12" fan in it's place. Even on high the CPU idles at 41 deg Celsius.

Other Thoughts: Moving everything to my new Antec 900 case. I'm going to remove the heatsink, clean it and the CPU and redo my thermal paste. I know I didn't put too much on the first time, but now I'm wondering if I used enough. I'll still give it a 5 star since most of the cooling problem is from my case and everyone else with a 955 seems to have zero heat issues.

5 out of 5 eggsThis thing is huge

Pros: cools the hell out of my cpu (running a 3.2 dual phenom II at 20c)
looks really awesome (sort of like an engine or a turbine)
comes with fan mate 2 which is a great and reliable fan controller.

Cons: 50 sumthin dollars to cool your cpu is annoying but worth it

it is very big, which can make building your computer a pain if your ram slots are to close to your cpu or your chip set heat sink is very large etc.

Other Thoughts: this thing looks amazing, and the noise it makes on full blast is like a regular fan really.

I suggest you buy this unless you found a cheaper one that does the job. I doubt it looks as cool as this tho :)

when you install the cooler to the cpu, the side with the fan on it should be closest to your ram and disc drives where the side without the fan is where the hot air is blowing out toward the exhaust.

5 out of 5 eggsThe end meets the means.

Pros: Works with Intel 3.33 Dual Core CPU's in Antec 900 and 902 cases without trouble. One is mounted on a Socket 775 gigabyte and the other is on a DFI Lanparty UT X48 T3RS.

Aimed the fan airflow towards the case rear 80mm fan and the big 200+ mm fan up top takes the heat all away.

Quiet.

Your first install is a nightmare with illustrations that go together a certain way. But once you learn it, you never forget this stout strong install method.

Cons: None. One replaced a Series 7 Volcano from Thermal take and the other is a new purchase because it is proven to work in the hot Arkansas summers.

Other Thoughts: If you buy a Cooler, start with this one. Learn it, love it and make airflow go into your case from the front, side fan and exhaust your airflow out the rear of the case and top of case. Make sure you aim that cooler so that the copper fins point away from the fan towards the rear case exhaust fan near the motherboard's cable connections.

Be gentle after installing the base. There is a cross peice with the unit that goes on specifically. At first it may seem to be too much bend to fit. But start a screw on one end, then start the other screw on the other end of the bowed center strut.

Work both screws down until it is firmly in place on it's base.

Dont forget the arctic silver between the cooler and CPU.

Be careful how you route the CPU Fan cable. It should go out the back and then hang downwards away from the fins. You don't want any wires to go between the fins to stop the fan itself.

If you buy a cooler and never bought one before, get this one and Learn it. It will n
