Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO CPU Cooler

Unmatched performance for the value, these are the tenants that guided Cooler Master engineers when designing the Hyper 212 EVO. Patented Continuous Direct Contact (CDC) technology ensures that the heat pipes are free of barriers while drawing heat away from the processor. A PWM fan ensures that fan speed can be intelligently controlled to ensure that it only speeds up when more cooling is necessary.

5 out of 5 eggsA Cool Breeze

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120 mm PWM Fan

Pros: My I5 processor idles under 30c and max loads at 40 during heavy gaming in a warm room. The fan noise level is very reasonable and less noisy than my old intel stock fan on a lesser processor. The included instructions are terrible. YouTube has a video for installation. It made it absurdly easy once some words and better images were provided.

Cons: It didnt make me dinner.

Other Thoughts: Buy it if you have a big case.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing cooler for the price

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120 mm PWM Fan

Pros: This cooler is great, and the low price makes it even better. With an i5-4690k (no OC yet) and moderate usage, the idle temperature rests consistently below 30°C, and does not reach very high temperatures during even heavy gaming loads (still running tests to get averages on certain games). The universal mount was easy to attach, and the thermal paste included with it works great.

Cons: The only possible con is the very large heatsink size of this cooler. With proper planning, of course, this is not an issue at all. With many mid-tower cases, this cooler should fit fine. The large heatsink actually adds a nice look to the rig if you have a viewing window.

Other Thoughts: If you are going to build a computer, spend the extra $30 on this cooler. If you want to OC in the future, there will be more than enough room to do so.

5 out of 5 eggsFirst Build - Good Cooling

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120 mm PWM Fan

Pros: It's quiet, can't hear it among the other fans in the case, runs cool.
Could add and even replace fans.

Cons: Kind of tall, the heat pipes touch the inside of my case, not really a problem.
Also, my expectation of its cooling was a bit higher, I get between 40-50 *C under normal load, according to NZXT's CAM, but doesn't seem to leave that range under heavy load. Again, nothing to worry about.

Other Thoughts: I shouldn't complain about at all. I bought to keep my CPU cool, and does a perfect job at it.
Here's my build:
-Gigabyte GA-F2A88X-D3H Motherboard
-AMD A10-7850k APU
-Single HyperX Savage 8GB DDR3 2400 RAM
-Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO cooler
-NZXT Source 220 case, black
-used Cooler Master 600W power supply
-used hard drives

4 out of 5 eggsLarge, but effective.

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120 mm PWM Fan

Pros: Keeps the CPU very cool, even during the most intensive programs (running high graphics games and Visual Studio 2013). Instructions are easy to understand and installation, like most heat sinks of this type, are time consuming, but the quality is good.

I would recommend this.

Cons: Fans and sink are fairly large, make sure your motherboard has enough room and that it wont impede the RAM or other peripherals.

Getting the screws and nuts out of the packaging can be difficult. Make sure to remove them before you need them. I spent several minutes fighting to get the nuts out the first machine I built with this cooler.

Check google for some instructions if you are new to adding this type of heat sink. Making mistakes can be very time consuming.

Other Thoughts: Check the hardware when you take it out of box. One of the nuts supplied was far too small and I had to make a trip to the hardware store to get a replacement.

5 out of 5 eggsSomewhat difficult

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120 mm PWM Fan

Pros: Well, it works and is quiet. Previous fan ran @ 4000-6500 rpm, noisy (70MM). Temp is down now to 109F, 1600 rpm. Found an installation on UT that showed what to do and explained all the weird factory instructions. The "X" frame and heat sink can be turned 90 degrees, which I did so as to point the air flow thru the heat sink right into the back case fan. It's got a lot of air coming out the back now. I have 4 ram chips with cooling extensions, the fan fits by about a quarter inch. The fan then also pulls air across the ram sort of a bonus. The were pretty warm before. For me, the MB had to come out. Once I put the "X" frame screws in the proper position, they aligned perfectly with the stand offs. I also rotated my "X" frame when I rotated the heat sink. So after 2 hours of running, quiet...and cool. Good price but the rebate is always a hassle.

Cons: Factory instructions are difficult. This fan is made for both Intel and AMD and as such you must sort out what parts and what orientation these parts belong to what processor. i.e. Intel bottom plate has to be flipped upside down for the AMD processor. The stand off screws come in 2 different sizes, one for intel and one for AMD. These standoff's screw portion would not fit thru the bottom bracket. I had to drill the holes out slightly to make mounting possible. The amd standoffs shoulder is much smaller than my motherboard holes are. You must slightly tighten them and then look and center it in the holes. Lots of play there. Just about at final install, the spring loaded screw in the middle of the "X" fram fell off and went into the MB. Was able to find and reinstall that screw. After studying that screw for a while, not sure what it is for and if there is any adjustment?

Other Thoughts: Its done, took about 4 hours since I had to remove/install my MB and all the wiring. I took plenty of pictures before unhooking everything. Made the reinstall easy. Next time I buy a new computer case, will make sure it has open access to the processor. Changing bottom mounts can be done without MB removal.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat CPU Fan

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120 mm PWM Fan

Pros: This fan does a great job. I am able to OC my CPU quite nicely and it keeps it cool. Quiet too,

Cons: This thing is huge, the biggest CPU fan I have ever bought. Make sure you have room for it.

Other Thoughts: Highly recommended

4 out of 5 eggslooks great, install carefully

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120 mm PWM Fan

Pros: So it looks imposing: ie., install this in a full ATX case. I'm going by the other comments here and will assume it will work well. Once you figure out the installation, it actually comes together without much trouble.

Cons: The instructions are not very good. They should make key portions clearer. Also, install this thing while the mobo is out of the case. I can't stress that enough. Everything is loose until you tie it all down towards the end. Finally, don't apply the thermal paste at the beginning like the steps suggest. Do it right at the end once you've figured everything out.

Other Thoughts: If you have a full ATX case, the mobo is out of the case and you read the instructions a few times, you should be fine installing this thing. Go for it, it looks great and is reasonably priced.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat fan.

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120 mm PWM Fan

Pros: Keeps everything way cool. Temps haven't gone above 40 degrees Celsius.

Cons: It was larger than I anticipated so it lightly scratched my case window. But really, that's not a big deal.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Well - But, Be Careful

This review is from: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120 mm PWM Fan

Pros: Does a good job of lowering temp over the stock sink/fan.

Cons: Maybe not an actual con but, the screws can be somewhat easily broken if tightened a little too much. Been there - done that!

Other Thoughts: IMO, you can't go wrong in buying anything from these N.E folks - my experiences, including returning items, has been first rate.
