4 out of 5 eggsLenovo Y50 I5 4200H 15.6"

This review is from: Lenovo Y50 (59418222) Gaming Laptop Intel Core i5 4200H (2.8GHz) 8GB Memory 1TB HDD 8GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 2GB 15.6" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: Great laptop. Very powerful, excellent video card. Build quality is great with sleek asthetics.

Cons: Screen is a weak. Like others have mentioned the screen is the weakest link and can look washed out :(. The laptop performance is 9/10. The screen is 4/10.

Other Thoughts: For the money this laptop is hard to beat. Overall I would recomend it. Even if I replace the screen it is a fantastic value.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat budget gaming laptop

This review is from: Lenovo Y50 (59418222) Gaming Laptop Intel Core i5 4200H (2.8GHz) 8GB Memory 1TB HDD 8GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 2GB 15.6" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: Great GPU
nice styling and not too flashy
Has all the features a gaming laptop needs (1080p, GPU, options for more memory, backlit keyboard)

Cons: SSHD it comes with was lacking (took 3 mins to boot up every time, i never could figure out why)
Only one 2.5" slot and no mSATA slots
Screen not great quality, only fair

Other Thoughts: This is an awesome gaming laptop when you consider the price point. I got it for $889 at the time I wrote this but I see it went back up. I went from a top of the line monster (SLI, RAID SSD and RAID HD and 4 memory slots, $4.5k) to this to save some money. I had to change out the SSHD, I thought I could deal with it but I just couldn't. Once I put an SSD in the whole machine was fast and boot time went to 7 seconds (Win8 fast boot). The screen I can deal with, and with an SSD it flies in day to day tasks I am finding most of the games I play I can play at 1080p ultra or maybe dial down to very high. Honestly it outperforms what I felt a sub $900 laptop would do.

3 out of 5 eggsBang for your buck

This review is from: Lenovo Y50 (59418222) Gaming Laptop Intel Core i5 4200H (2.8GHz) 8GB Memory 1TB HDD 8GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 2GB 15.6" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: This is a awesome computer if you are going for a gaming computer under $1,000. The graphics card is a monster and you wont find a better one in any other laptop under $1,000. Other than the graphics card, the hardware is average.

The overall look of the laptop is sleek and cool, the keyboard has good button placement along with a nice red background keyboard light.

The sound is decent.

Cons: Fingerprint magnet.

Slow WiFi connection, probably a issue with the drivers, lenovo is notorious for terrible drivers. I would recommend a fresh OS install not just for new drivers but because of the massive amount of bloatware that comes with the computer.

The track-pad is terrible, you WON'T be able to game unless you have a mouse, if you can game on this laptop with the track-pad then you are a monster. It clicks when touched, the right click must be hit in a small space and it zooms in fully at the worst times.

The screens colors and lighting aren't the best, but there are tutorials on YT and other sites that show you how to change the screen for ~$110.

Battery life is around ~2 hours but I'm sure it varies widely.

Other Thoughts: Ehh, my expectations were set high.

3 out of 5 eggsGood....but..

This review is from: Lenovo Y50 (59418222) Gaming Laptop Intel Core i5 4200H (2.8GHz) 8GB Memory 1TB HDD 8GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 2GB 15.6" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: Great look, feels fast, love the keyboard

Cons: Screen was a major issue, display is lacking. I am now having a major issue where the laptop just shuts off....kind of odd as it happens randomly and while I am working. Not sure what to do about this...

Other Thoughts: I loved it but now I am worried the laptop will die within 6 months. the random shut downs are not good

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Deal for the Specs

This review is from: Lenovo Y50 (59418222) Gaming Laptop Intel Core i5 4200H (2.8GHz) 8GB Memory 1TB HDD 8GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 2GB 15.6" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: Price - Got it for $870 with the Visa Promo code. Doesn't get much better than that with these specs.

Shipping - Chose the free shipping, but it got to my house in less than 48 hours after ordering it.

Looks - I love the look of it. It's thin and stylish. The red keyboard lights also look very nice and help when it's dark.

Graphics - So far the few games I've tried on it run at high settings with good FPS (MetroLL, BF4, NFS Rivals, I even tried RuneScape but that doesn't take much)

Sound - For a laptop it sounds pretty decent

Cons: - Fingerprint magnet for sure

- The screen is not the best, but it's not as bad as some of the other reviews make it out to be.

- Only one HDD bay. Would have loved to add an SSD, but I need the space and 1TB SSD's aren't affordable yet.

- Bloatware. Accidentally deleted a driver when deleting useless programs so I had to go back to Lenovo's site and re-download it

Other Thoughts: I don't really like gaming on a laptop, but I needed one for an upcoming deployment, and this was by far the best deal out there. The only other laptop I've ever owned was a MacBook so that's all I had this to compare against.

Also for people that despise Windows 8.1, just install the ClassicShell program and it's just like W7.

5 out of 5 eggsWhat a deal... SO MUCH BLOATWARE

This review is from: Lenovo Y50 (59418222) Gaming Laptop Intel Core i5 4200H (2.8GHz) 8GB Memory 1TB HDD 8GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 2GB 15.6" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: Definitely not too big of a loss on the i5, pretty blazing fast and worth saving the couple hundred bucks to the i7. I mostly use this for school/work, but I wanted capabilities of gaming and the GTX 860m is definitely a huge upside on this build for the price. Under a grand and you get the capabilities of most 1200+ laptops. I will be upgrading RAM in the future to full 16g and installing a SSD just because 5400 RPM won't hold up over time, but the factory HHD + SSHD you can definitely feel the difference in it helping.

Cons: Graphics are great, but I've noticed colors are a bit dark and I'm having to up the brightness in-game + settings if it is a really dark scene. Only thing I've noticed so far. Oh, and I spent the first 30 minutes uninstalling all the bloatware that came on it. Some of it seems useful, but not my cup of tea.

Other Thoughts: Overall the laptop is awesome. The powerful portability and sleek look is amazing for its price range. I still would have a desktop gaming build, as this is not a replacement, but if you go to school and play games like I do - this is far more worth it than spending the 1200+
Gave 5 eggs because I think everyone giving it less forgets how much they paid and how much they are getting. People don't look to buy a laptop with gaming capabilities under 1000 for no reasons at all.

I had the i5 model and was not disappointed.

4 out of 5 eggsgreat laptop for a great price!

This review is from: Lenovo Y50 (59418222) Gaming Laptop Intel Core i5 4200H (2.8GHz) 8GB Memory 1TB HDD 8GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 2GB 15.6" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: Great keyboard. red backlit very thin amazing proccesor with a even better graphics card. plaus bf4 Arma 3. dayz. starcraft 2 and skyrim at high to ultra with flying FPS. ram ia decent enough and the hybrid drive makes bootup amazingly fast just shy of 20 seconds. great at maintaining heat after playing 6 plus hours of arma3.

Cons: mousepad sucks a little but I use a mouse for gaming. screen could use a little work but overall not bad. windows 8.1 sucks in general.

4 out of 5 eggsAmazing Laptop

This review is from: Lenovo Y50 (59418222) Gaming Laptop Intel Core i5 4200H (2.8GHz) 8GB Memory 1TB HDD 8GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 2GB 15.6" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: This laptop despite being a gaming laptop comes short of only less than an inch. It has an amazing backlit keyboard which has no gimmicks like short shift keys and misplaced backspaces. Very accurate keyboard. The Gtx 860m is also a very great addition for the price as it is one fo the cheapest to find with such card. Also very silent computer as you dont tend to hear the fans whine and make noise. i would say a very good innovation by lenovo

Cons: This laptop may be all in all really well off but it does come with some cons. The trackpad is the worst as it does not click when trying to press down from the top right and left hand corners and in some applications using two hands to click and drag is out of question. Be ready to have it full blown zoom in on you. The tn panel is also a downer as it has very hoorible viewing angles. the battery does not last well over 3 hours depending on usage but what can you expect from a gaming laptop. The text also does not scale well. It may be due to windows 8 and may take some tinkering in order to fix.

Other Thoughts: BTW I am using the i5 base model and i am still very satisfied by the performance.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat gaming laptop

This review is from: Lenovo Y50 (59418222) Gaming Laptop Intel Core i5 4200H (2.8GHz) 8GB Memory 1TB HDD 8GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 2GB 15.6" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: Smooth performing.
This machine can play almost every major game out in the market at the maximum setting. Except for Watchdog maybe.
Great looking, slim design, really cool keyboard, low price with this i5 version.

Worth mentioning, the fan is fantastic. Never encounter one overheating problem even at heavy gaming.

Cons: Screen, Screen, and the Screen. The color is kinda washed out. It's fine when watching films or playing games, but really annoying when scanning websites. The text is blur to me.

Glad there are videos on youtube about how to change the screen of Y50, just additional 100 bucks.

Other Thoughts: Great laptop, worth buying.
