5 out of 5 eggsSuperfish?

Pros: This laptop has top grade hardware.

Cons: This laptop ships with crapware.

Other Thoughts: completely reinstall windoze to a new SSD to make this laptop a gaming monster and NOT be spied upon by le-NO!-vo.

5 out of 5 eggsReplace Screen for UBER Gaming Laptop

Pros: Great design: Slim, lightweight, cool angles and great back-lit keyboard.
Superb graphics card and processor combo.
Very large HDD...
No wi-fi or power issues like some reviewers.

Cons: Slow HDD for anything you don't use much.
Super weak screen.

Other Thoughts: I replaced the screen with an ips from laptopscreen dot com and it was like I just got a $2k laptop! The improvement for $100 was incredible. super easy replacement, unlike a cell phone screen...
More recommended now than ever!

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Design? maybe

Cons: Adapter or battery idk, something went wrong. Not recharges when machine is on. If you close the lid or put on sleep or turn it off it starts recharge with very low rate. But consumes battery with very high rate, about 2 hour use when fully recharged.

Other Thoughts: Tried to visit local "Lenovo" support. They ask me 300 bucks for service. I asked why I have to pay, answered me warranty is not valid in Japan. Tried to replace or refund to Newegg. Asked me to ship in 2 weeks. (from Japan to USA?) It's simply not enough time to deliver it with regular post. If I pay for faster shipment payment will be plus 300$. Right now I don't know what to do with it. :(

2 out of 5 eggsLenovo Y50 (59418222) Gaming Laptop Intel Core i5 4200H (2.80GHz) 8GB Memory 1TB HDD 8GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 2GB 15.6" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

Pros: Great graphics card
Great processor

Cons: I could hardly ever get the wifi to work properly. When i originally ordered the machine, i lived in a small apartment and had no issues with the wifi. However, I always had trouble getting it to work at my girlfriend's house. I told her to have the internet provider come check out their setup, but they didn't find any issues. Then I moved out of my apartment, and had the same issues in the small house we moved into.

I sent the laptop to Lenovo for repairs (after a week and a half of waiting due to Lenovo mailing the box to the wrong address), and they said they were able to repeat the issue. They replaced the wifi card (after several mixups with my serial number), but when I got it back, it was the same exact issue. Ultimately, very frustrated and still improperly working wifi, I demanded a refund. I am currently waiting on another shipment box and have all ready purchased another computer from newegg. DO NOT buy anything from Lenovo. Their service and product are horrible.

Other Thoughts: This computer had such great potential. It works PERFECTLY plugged into ethernet. However, if you want a desktop, there are cheaper options. This is a laptop, that will only perform as a desktop if you want internet connection.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Value!

Pros: This is a thin and lightweight laptop that performs almost as good as my desktop gaming rig that I built from scratch with as much upper-level components as I could afford. That desktop came in at just over $2k. For $900 and about $200 of upgrades I expect this thing to be rocking for years to come. GTX860 is a pretty killer gaming GPU. The sound system is amazing. Period. The screen is very detailed and definitely full HD, but has its compromises discussed in the cons section. The included SSHD almost made me not want to replace it with a real SSD because once it learned how to boot Windows the thing was blazing fast and after running a game two or three times they also sped up considerably. Lots of storage. lighted keyboard can be bright, not-so-bright, or off. Very good. Also it feels good to type and I don't have any more fat finger moments than on my $10 MS keyboard. ;) It is easy to get in to and work on. LOTS of screws, but that's it. Outer case is all metal so it doesn't feel or look cheap. The angles on the case resemble Alien*** without being overly aggressive. I personally like the look because it is not just another rectangular laptop. SD card slot might seem a given but it is a huge bonus if you use an actual camera ant not your phone for photos. HDMI out: bonus. GB LAN port works. 8GB of RAM is the sweet spot.

Cons: The screen is not fantastic: washed out colors and odd text blurriness at random. Viewing angles are for one user only who NEVER MOVES. No major gaming lag or other obvious flaws. ($100 to replace with awesome ips) The SSHD was partitioned by a psychopath. This hard drive is seriously jacked up. It works though, so unless you plan to replace it/ clone it/ destroy it, forget about this oddity. ($100 to replace with 240GBSSD) Touch pad is a little mushy. Bloatware is out of control -remove it or reinstall the OS for your own sanity! The Intel graphics are default and it uses "switchable" graphics mode which I found "questionable." I had to force the GTX860M to be the all-the-time graphics solution in order for games and benchmarks to use it. Be aware of that if you get it.

Other Thoughts: The screen is a bit washed out on colors and next to any ips (like on my desk right now, next to my two ips monitors) it looks pretty weak.) Take it out to the back porch and watch a movie or play a game? Not so bad!
The touch pad has been griped about a lot and it definitely feels a bit mushy compared to a Mackbook, but it works just fine and allows swipe motions in Win 8.1 so I like it just fine.

Upgrading components is easy: All of the external screws are identical and the SSHD screws are two types -don't mix them up.
When reinstalling Win 8.1 on a 240GB SSD I ran in to some driver issues with games and benchmarks right off the bat so I tried a Windows Refresh. BIG mistake. I got back every bit of bloatware I had uninstalled BEFORE I decided to reinstall Win8.1... It was unreal. Somehow, Lenovo has hard wired their refresh image into the motherboard either with a ROM or whatever -maybe the serial number of the computer reached out to their online servers and they "helped me out." Either way, I did a new clean instal, ran all driver installations from the original SSHD, got the thing running and THEN created a new Refresh Image. Google these thing if you want to do them, it's easy. Still not sure how Lenovo took a dump on a brand new SSD, but I think I've gotten around that. This laptop benchmarks very well once you force the Nvidia GPU to be up front. Now that I have this laptop dialed in and have played some games on it I am constantly amazed at how well it performs! Great buy!

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Everything but the screen, but I knew that before hand and

had a replacement ready to go.

Cons: The screen is dull and not up to par.

Other Thoughts: Not sure why you guys are knocking eggs off looking for a

solid state drive (SSD). under specifications it clear states its

a solid state hybrid drive (SSHD).

1 out of 5 eggsMissing SSD, Fragile Case, Poor HDD

Pros: Once you replace the 5400 rpm HDD it will perform well.

Cons: It says 8GB SSD but there was no SSD to be found. Also, the 5400 rpm HDD is horrible and is a huge bottleneck. I replaced the HDD with a Samsung 250GB SSD and I saw a huge improvement. Be careful about opening it up though, the case is extremely cheap and can easily crack. While I was replacing the HDD, I very carefully opened up the case and still had some small pieces of plastic break off. Luckily I was still able to screw it back together, but now I know how fragile this thing is.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazed

Pros: I bought this after selling my macbook pro and I must say that this laptop blows the mac out of the water. I have been able to run games on it at high to ultra settings depending on the game. but the GTX 860m is an amazing graphics card in my opinion.

Cons: my only complaint with the laptop is that the trackpad needs work and they cut a corner on the screen.

Other Thoughts: All of my other tech friends are also amazed at the build quality which is solid. a must buy for the price and quality. Lenovo sure knows how to make a laptop.

1 out of 5 eggsMissing 8GB Solid State Drive

Pros: Good for gaming.

Cons: The laptop didn't come with an 8GB solid state drive as advertised. Not sure what to do about that.

4 out of 5 eggsSolid little laptop

Pros: Sleek design, zippy gaming, loads of space, hybrid drive, and decent sound.

I didn't realize how thin this laptop was until I pulled it out of the box. It's really thin and sleek. That said, it still seems like a durable design. The screen hinges are stout, and the overall quality feels real solid, which is impressive given how thin it is.

It is also very easy to open up for upgrades. 7 screws and 4 hidden clips, and you have access to the ENTIRE computer.

Innovative and effective cooling.

No optical drive! - yes, I consider this a pro. The only time I used the optical drive on my previous laptop was to accidentally eject it, then push it back in.

Cons: Windows 8. It's for tablets, not computers.

Many have cited the screen as being a con, and I cannot disagree, but it's not as terrible as some make it seem. Yes, it's best viewed straight on, so it's bad for multiple viewers, but from the optimal angle, it's a good picture.

Fingerprint city. If you want it to always look pristine, keep some wipes nearby. It's still sexy, even with the fingerprints, though.

Other Thoughts: I immediately replaced the 1TB hybrid drive with a solid state, and downgraded (read: upgraded) to Windows 7. I've been very happy with the performance of this laptop, especially given I got the dual-core model. Most games run quite well on medium-high settings.

I also do a lot of LAMP development, and C# development. Jetbrains and Microsoft IDE's are both very crisp and responsive on this machine.

NOTE: For those of you having issues with video drivers upon re-install of the operating system, you MUST install the Intel HD Graphics 4600 driver BEFORE the nVidia 860m driver. Also, the nVidia 3DVision driver component at the time of this writing is faulty and causes blue-screens whenever Chrome runs Adobe Flash (which is all the time). It probably has other issues as well, so opt for 'Custom Installation', and disclude the 3DVision driver when installing the nVidia drivers.

My overall feeling of this laptop is that I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a good machine in this price range. It multitasks well, and games well.

Newegg rocks.
The end.
