Video archives, backups, auxiliary storage; if you need it, this system will probably provide it! Very good deal for the money
- Pros: Stirdy aluminum casing
Barely makes any noise
Reasonable price
Appealing design
Doesn't overheat
- Cons: Power cord too short and is an adapter that takes too much space on the power surge
- Other Thoughts: The device is the size of a video cassette. It's a bit heavy, but appears very well constructed
When I was researching 1TB external drives, my choices were Iomega Prestige, WD Elements, and this drive. I liked the aluminum casing of the Iomega and a harddrive from WD, but wasn't happy with the shortcomings of the two, such as a lack of a power switch in WD and overheating of Iomega. Fantom G-force harddrive had what I liked about the other choices without their shortcomings.
So far, I've had no problems. Setting it up was easy. I quick-formatted it to NTFS and partitioned it into 3 parts using a third-party software. The blue light, although a bit too bright, doesn't bother me. The drive didn't seem to overheat over the time I used it. My only complaint with the device, hence 4 stars, is the power cord. It's too short and comes as a power adapter, which takes the space of two outlets in my already crowded power surge protector.

Great Bang for Dollars!
- Pros: Super fast transfers using eSATA! Transferred movie files over 17GB in ~15 minutes!
- Cons: Slightly Noisy
Great Drive for the price
- Pros: Crazy fast when using the eSATA! 2GB or less transfers in less than a minute!
On/off switch is a plus! However, I let it run full time for my late night system backups.
- Cons: Noise level isn't super quiet, but it isn't intolerable.
Excellent product
- Pros: Easy install. However it was not immediately recognized by Windows 7 64 bits. I had to reboot with keeping the Fantom on. Then it was OK. That's why I don't give a 5 star, only because some people may fear it does not work at all when the same happens. Beware, the fix is easy.
I do a lot of video with this external HD and e-sata gives a good speed.
- Cons: None I can think of with the exception of the described small glitch at first install.
