5 out of 5 eggsThis thing is Awesome!!!

Pros: I have been using this portable hard drive for over 2 years and had no issues with it at all. For me there is more space than I can ever use. I have over 50 HD movies a few tv shows all my music and pictures and still have only used a 1/3 of space.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: would for sure recommend to a friend

5 out of 5 eggsJust as compatible with Mac!

Pros: Originally using this as a Windows media archive drive, this was great, and dependable. Having switched to Mac using this, I found reformatting, and setting this up as a Mac media drive was a breeze to do. Just as dependable for that particular computer. Albeit not my Time Machine drive (that's another external drive), it does get the job done with what I am looking at it to do.

Cons: Only a 5400 RPM hard drive, but since it's not an internal disk, nor what I have OS X installed on, it's not relevant.

Other Thoughts: This does get the job done, would certainly be of good help for those wanting to use this for either platform, and is a good dependable media storage drive.

2 out of 5 eggsPoor Engineering

Pros: USB 3.0, 1TB, Low price

Cons: You'd think being labeled "portable" that removing the USB 3.0 data cable and plugging it back in no more than 4-5 times wouldn't be an issue - but it is - and one that others have had, too. The pins are not much bigger than a human hair - and bend easily. One pin was bend and grounding out, making it impossible to use on 3.0 (but 2.0 still worked). After some research I put it under a magnifying lamp and found the pin. I used a straight pin (needle) to probe the pin but the pin broke free. The drive now works

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible!!!! DO NOT BUY A SEAGATE DRIVE!!!!!!

Pros: None!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cons: I have had absolutely no luck with seagate drives! I warn you it will fail . Everyone I have purchased in the last 10 years has failed and I have lost all my data. Buy at your own risk! They are the worst drives ever. None of my other brand drives have ever failed! None! in all the others I have owned in 20 years!

2 out of 5 eggsSeagate Portable HDD

Pros: Worked and were on sale @$150 for 3 of them.

Cons: Only lasted 6 months then slowed down to under 1 MB/sec.

Other Thoughts: For $20 more per drive you can get ones that are 3x faster and they're Western Digital (higher quality). I'll let you know how long they last and if they really run at over 300MB/sec.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Small, fast and convenient to travel with my laptop.

Cons: Dead after 3 months, suddenly W7 no longer recognized the drive, the blue light comes on when plugged in but that is all. Seagate Customer support quickly reconfirmed the drive has to be replaced and a new one is on the way for $12.

Other Thoughts: Never had a problem with Seagate before but there is always a first time, I guess. There is a reason why you should back up data. This was not a backup drive for me, rather a data transport medium to avoid loading up the hard drive in my laptop.

4 out of 5 eggsWarranty wierdness

Pros: Drive is as advertised. Very black, very simple, very angular. But who cares - you're going to put it on top of your PC and forget it's there, or stuff it in a drawer somewhere and forget it's there.

Cons: None so far as I can tell

Other Thoughts: The warranty on these drives is apparently 1 year, though trying to find that out took me at least 15 minutes. The top of the retail box contains the ambiguous text "1 Year Limited Warranty 2 Year Limited Warranty 3 Year Limited Warranty" with no way to tell which the product has. The only way I found was to go to their website at support.seagate.com/warranty and punch in the serial and product numbers.

The first of 2 drives I purchased I registered using the registration application on the drive. Then I searched for it's warranty: 360 days (5 less than 1 year). The second drive, still in its box, I didn't register. I punched its serial and product numbers into the warranty search and it came back with 367 days, basically 1 year from 2 days from now. ???? I don't get it either.

I'll be buying a lot of these for clients and using them to backup their systems. So I'll have a better idea of reliability down the road.

5 out of 5 eggsStill going strong after 2 years

Pros: Fast transfer due to USB 3.0 cable, still working 2 years later. I noticed when I bought the drive there were very few reviews from people who had owned drives for over a month, which is why I'm writing this now!

Cons: I see that the price has now dropped to about half of what I paid for it 2 years ago. No complaints though!
