It works amazingly well. The dimmer for the lights is a nice added touch. Software is good for the average person to automate ...

Cool story bro!

Solid, simple, curved, and made by Samsung. Keeps good pace with my other external drives.

5 out of 5 eggsVery satisfied with this!

Pros: fast

Cons: dont like it is not as empty as I thought when buying it, but learned all storage devices are the same like that
and
it gets a little hot, in the summer probably more easily.

as with all storage devices, turn them off when not in use..though I have forgotten about it ,left it on for hours and it was not too hot, just warm.

Other Thoughts: Well worth my money

5 out of 5 eggsBought to use with WD TV Live

Pros: Very nice looking device, great for use in a home theater.

It has "skates" on either side that elevate it from resting directly on a flat surface, providing some air flow beneath the unit.

When I turn on my WD TV Live, the HD turns on. When I turn off my WD TV Live, this HD turns off.. without having to adjust the little dial on the front like I thought I would. Very nice!

Very slick looking design.

All around VERY pleased with this device!

Cons: Cant think of anything...

Other Thoughts: If you're looking for a portable harddrive to use in your home theater, I recommend this one!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat, works just as told.

Pros: Had it for about 8 months now, and it's on constant use. Stored up 850GB on it so far with backup. Got to compress it, but this does serve it's function. Nothing bad has happened.
Bought another external for my brother, burnt out in 2 months.

Cons: Cables are easy to pull out, maybe have a little safety pin to secure cables to the case.

Other Thoughts: Great hard drive. I recommended to a friend of mine, he bought it, and has it running for 3 months straight, 24/7.

4 out of 5 eggsOverall Good

Pros: -Easy to use
-Looks great
-No problems

Cons: -Slow transfer speed that only shows really when you transfer a hundred movies or so, which for me was 900 movies that took a few hours. Would have been nice to have e-sata port but all I do now is transfer one or two to my desktop for travel.

-Has to be plugged in but I just through one or two movies that I want to watch on my laptop for trips.

1 out of 5 eggs1st hard drive that ever died on me

Pros: It worked flawlessly for about two months...

Cons: ...and then it wouldn't turn on. Nothing. I decided to risk voiding the warranty by opening the case and putting the hard drive into another external enclosure, gambling that there wasn't anything wrong with the hard drive itself. My bad. The hard drive was in fact dead.

Other Thoughts: Obviously it's possible that the vast majority of Samsung Story external hard drives work fine year after year. My 1 star rating is simply for the experience I had with this one. You the consumer will have to go through these reviews and decide for yourself whether it appears most people's experience is positive, or whether there appears to be enough 1 star ratings to warrant concern. Personally, next time I decide to invest in an external hard drive, I'll shell out the money for a Western Digital 3.5" internal hard drive and a quality external enclosure to house it in.

4 out of 5 eggsLove it,,.......

Pros: had this thing for a month and half, and i love it, i just hate how its only 936gb in ntfs format other then that its a great little hdd for backup stuff i have no probs with it running or copying files.

Cons: None as of yet and hopefully none ever.

Other Thoughts: wish i bought it now as i paid little over 100 for it then and now its only 80ish dollars.

1 out of 5 eggsDead in 5 months

Pros: Cheap

Cons: Won't power on after 5 months of moderate use.

Even when it was working it had very slow access times, it would take a few moments to gear up before being able to read folders.

Other Thoughts: I never left it on for extended periods of time and used it only for backing-up photos. There was no incident with it, it just wouldn't power on one day.

I know it is definitely the enclosure because I was able to test the power source on a compatible device and it drew power just fine.

I'm not sending it in for warranty because the information is too valuable to gamble on sending it away and I need it immediately.

Do not buy this hard drive unless you like to gamble!

2 out of 5 eggsSeemed like a good HDD

Pros: Its one terabyte and it's $20 off

Cons: The one I received kept randomly disconnecting from my computer. I tried it on different computers, and it still disconnected.

Other Thoughts: I'm sure the vast majority of these hard drives aren't defective and work fine, but I can't give this one a good review since I had to send mine back in through warranty.

5 out of 5 eggsSo far so good

Pros: Runs very very quiet, nearly silent after startup. Very simple design, great for a backup drive. Comes formatted in FAT so I reformatted it for OS X Journaled and it has 999.52 GB. Nice dimmer nob too.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: 5400rpm which it doesn't say in the description, I noticed that a similar Western Digital drive also didn't mention the rpm or the cache, what's up with not listing that info in the specs?
