3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Quiet and runs rather cool in my gaming rig (22ºC)
Somewhat fast data transfer
Average of 28.4MB/s.

Cons: Takes about 6 minutes to move 10.5GB of picture and movie files.
28.4MB/s, not as fast as my other drives, but I'm using it as a back up of my back up.

Other Thoughts: I received mine for $80 from a local computer store. Hoping that this isn't a drive from a bad batch. I haven't exactly put it under any pressure, yet. May switch out my main 320GB and transfer everything on to this one and see how it holds up.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect

Pros: Relatively cheap for a 1TB drive, doesn't make a lot of sound, and works as expected. Very nice as an external drive (I put mine together with a Rosewill external enclosure and it's perfect)

Cons: None so far!

2 out of 5 eggsThe horror....

Pros: Was fast.. when it worked.. Was setup as a secondary backup drive with minimal use.

Cons: 1st on died in 6 months, RMA'd, that one died in 26 days, RMA'd, DOA would even power on, RMAd.. waiting on 4th drive to arrive.. .. These seem to be plagued.. This was a first time to buy a samsung drive.. Dont think ill be making that mistake again..

Other Thoughts: Was sucked in by the price when I got this.. sadly, another lesson of "Buy Cheap, Get Cheap" was learned here.. When I receive my new drive, I plan on selling that thing as fast as possible... And not just these drives, but a LOT of 1tb drives seem to be having issues.. Even with the amount of issues Ive had, I will rate it 2 stars just for the sheer fact that when it works it gives great performance.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Drive

Pros: Very quiet and reliable drives. I havve run a couple of these in RAID 1 for over a year without incident. I also have single F1s in service and in variousl installs without any issues.

Cons: No real cons - excellent drives for the money.

Other Thoughts: Never a problem as RAID drives, have used Nvidia and Intel chipsets and am quite satisfied.

2 out of 5 eggsProblematic

Pros: Large capacity for a good price when I got it.

Cons: I noticed some strange characteristics early on after I built a new system with this drive. The drive would malfunction and cause a BSOD/reboot during intensive disk I/O, such as defragging, doing an image-based backup, or intense gaming (Crysis, Far Cry 2, etc). I put up with it for over 1 year because it did not always happen but I couldn't defrag or do image-based backups (and gaming would crash sometimes). I know it was the drive causing the issue because once I replaced the drive with an imaged new drive, the problems ceased.

Other Thoughts: Previously I'd only ever had hard drives to flat out die (click of death), so the problem I had with this one was weird.

4 out of 5 eggsWould've said 5 stars but...

Pros: Decent price, fairly quiet, adequate performance

Cons: One out of the five drives I received was defective (couldn't initialize the disk).

Other Thoughts: I purchased three of these for RAID 5 on my ASUS P6T motherboard with Win7 back in July of 2009. I kept getting errors on the same drive, so ordered another from newegg and was going to return the old one to the manufacturer. Hopefully just bad luck, but my replacement drive from newegg was defective. I then learned about an issue lots of folks are having with Intel's RAID driver 8.9.1023. The unofficial recommended fix was downgrading to version 8.8.0.1009, and I haven't had any errors since. So the first drive I thought was defective was actually ok, but the replacement I ordered really was defective. Newegg was good about RMA'ing me a replacement, and that one was fine. Sucks I had to pay $10 to ship one back though.

4 out of 5 eggs1 good 1 bad

Pros: Purchased 2 drives on 1/11/2009 (1 for my PC and 1 for my HP EX-470 WHS) Drives were inexpensive and have very cool temps. Hard Disk Sentinal reports 27C - 32C. Drive 1 is in the PC and hasn't had any issues.

Cons: Drive 2 is in the HP WHS and has a SMART issue, specifically READ RAW ERROR RATE. This is listed as "Pre-Failure: Data Loss Predicted" Also, there is a warning for "Current Pending Sector Count"

Other Thoughts: I will be attempting to 'remove' the drive from my WHS pool today, before losing data. I'll then RMA the drive to Samsung =( Also, the Power On Time for the curious = 342 days, 19 hours.

1 out of 5 eggsDrive failed fast

Pros: Worked well in raid0 inside symbology server for 52 days.

Cons: Failed after 52 days - refuses to spin up and is making grinding noises. Server is on UPS and in cool room. Only thought on failure cause is that Symbology spins down idle drives after an hour so the drives are getting more spin up/down cycles than my other servers that never power down drives.

I guess we're renting our drives now.

Other Thoughts: I'm not very happy with terabyte and above sized drives. In general they less reliable that <500G drives. Every TB drive I have has had some small glitches. Meanwhile the 6 year old 80G drive has never even had a CRC error.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesomesauce

Pros: Plenty of space! Certainly allows me to stretch my "data arms and legs", so to speak. 32 MB cache is super cool and even though I'm still running off 1.5Gb/s instead of the full 3Gb/s, it's still decently fast.

Cons: My PC is only accessing this drive at 1.5Gb/s but it's not that bad of a problem, nothing a simple upgrade can't fix.

Other Thoughts: Using this to run and play all my games as well as other programs (movie making). Great for a game drive!
