5 out of 5 eggsLong Term Review - Still running after 4.58 YEARS!

Pros: I never do reviews. Who has the time? But I will for this. This samsung turned out to be a good one. It's fairly fast as 750GB drives go. It's quiet. Runs cool. It has advanced audio management, NCQ, etc. At 88% full the read speed is only 58MB/Sec. Write is still 89MB/sec. Hmm. Odd.

Anyhow, I've had it probably since 2009. Its been a light use drive. It was, for awhile, a primary boot drive (with heavy use). Then it was relegated to a storage drive that has been occasionally accessed for media (very light use). The S.M.A.R.T. STATUS shows that the drive has been on for a total of 40,144 hours (thats 1,672 days or a total of 4.58 YEARS!). Power on count is only 969. So the drive is left spinning most of the time. No raw errors. No reallocated sectors count. All good.

It's now being pulled from my AMD FX 8-core rig and will be used as a primary drive for someone else. Lets see how much longer it will last. I will try to an update if it doesn't die within the next 6 months.

Cons: I have my hard drives set to go to sleep after 20 minutes of non-use. For some reason the past few months, when the drive is in sleep mode, it takes a long time to wake up. Other drives spin-up, click and ready to go. This one spins up, clicks then you wait and wait. Possibly 2 or 4 minutes before the drive is accessible. Minor complaint after 4.58 years.

Other Thoughts: This is not the typical lifespan of a hard drive!!! I GOT LUCKY! I had another Samsung 1TB F1 hard drive that died within warranty. Fortunately, the drive gave enough warning signs for me to realize it was going bad (died within the 1 year warranty). I was also able to recover 99% of the data and send it in. I was issued a REFURBISHED drive. Samsung apparently DOES NOT give you a NEW drive if yours fails.

4 out of 5 eggsBought 2 with wildly varying outcomes.

Pros: The one I bought that lasted, works great. Has lasted... probably more than 3 years uptime, plus travel, multiple reformats, etc.

Cons: The one that did not live, died quickly but I procrastinated about RMA'ing it at the time. I mean bad, like, 200 new bad sectors per badblocks iteration.

4 out of 5 eggsGoodbye mi Amor

Pros: It lasted this long, bought in 10-9-2009 and just died in 2013.

Cons: When i first bought this everyone was claiming it was dying in 6 months.

Other Thoughts: Well it made this far, once it died I gave it a medal, opened it up and hit and beat it up with the hammer of justice, farewall you served me well.

    1 out of 5 eggsUnreliable

Pros: Quite, fast, coolest drive in my rig.

Cons: I have had two HD753LJ since I purchased one here in the end of 2008. First one gave me bad blocks after six month and I RMA through Samsung. As of today, this one also gained three bad blocks and Raw Read Error Rate in S.M.A.R.T.

5 out of 5 eggs3.5 years and still going

Pros: Fast, reliable, bought on sale. :D

Cons: Does not play nice with certain nVidia SATA drivers which cause the system to lock up. Solution? Use the default Intel drivers instead.

Other Thoughts: Would buy again though technology marches on.

    1 out of 5 eggsJunk

    Pros: NONE

Cons: I bought this drive about 16 months ago, it went bad within 6 months, RMA to Samsung and was sent a recertified drive and within 9 months this one went bad, I would stay away from there products....

4 out of 5 eggsGETCHU SOME!

Pros: Fast. Reliable using hardware raid. Rock solid drives since the move to hardware raid. Good performance.

Cons: There must be a compatability issue with the x48 chipset (ICH9R). Tried every chipset driver Got Vista 64 running 3 times and all three times the drives eventually got corrupted.

Other Thoughts: GETCHU SOME! If my Rampage Extreme would hold more, I would.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Drive

Pros: Fast. Averages 80mb/sec write and has a burst speed over over 150mb/sec. Lots of space. Quiet. Great price.

Cons: Does exactly what I expected it to, so none.

Other Thoughts: Actually came with mounting screws which was nice. Had 700GB out of 750 free. Seems bad, but is actually more space than you get with most brands.

5 out of 5 eggsFor the price it's awesome!

Pros: I have had this for several months now and it is a solid Hard Drive. Decent amount of space and it's Samsung, so you will get a top notch product with top notch warrenties. It has 32mb buffer memory, 7200rpm and has 750 gig of space. Kicking price for a kicking product.

Cons: Too bad it's not a 10,000RPM or 15,000RPM, but for 64.99 which is what I paid this is as good as it gets. Maybe the 10,000rpm and 15,000 rpm drives will come down in price eventually.

Other Thoughts: I may order another one and do a raid 0 in the near future.

5 out of 5 eggsDecent Hard Drive

Pros: High capacity, great price, SATA connection. My motherboard (ASROCK P55 Extreme)recognized it right away.

    Cons: So far so good.

Other Thoughts: I wish hard drives of this capacity could be faster.
