2 out of 5 eggsDied 1yr 4mo

Pros: Lots of storage room

Cons: Died abruptly. acting strange this last day, went to plug it in to another PC and the disk no longer spun up. luckily it was used only as a backup drive and was in process of a new backup. Use another HDD and try again.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks wonderfully

Pros: -It is quiet
-Weather resistant ( have shipped it across the continent of the US) and it withstood weather conditions, after being left in a cardboard box in the rain. Let it dry off plugged it in and it worked still. Two thumbs up on this buy.

Cons: - none yet

Other Thoughts: Hope to only have to replace this when it is full. Which will not be anytime soon.

5 out of 5 eggsGood drive for the Price, works great

Pros: Works great, no issues. Can copy large amounts of files at 20 MB/s, so is one of the fastest drives I've had. Definitely a good price for the performance.

Also it has been very reliable.

Cons: None

1 out of 5 eggsDEAD LESS THAN A YEAR!

Pros: holds tons of data that you will lose when it dies.

Cons: It died before a year was up. I have all of my pictures stored on this drive....what now?

1 out of 5 eggsDead

Pros: Great space for the price

Cons: Dead in 1 year and 4 months.

Other Thoughts: Cyclic redundancy check fail. Managed to pull a few files, then Windows told me I needed to format the drive.

1 out of 5 eggsDead 10 days after warranty

Pros: Great amount of storage space for a decent price.

Cons: I have bought 5-6 hard drives from Seagate. All have been great (if not RMA'd), but this little piece...

1. THERE IS NO POWER BUTTON. You'd think this wouldn't be a bad thing, but it truly sucks. You often have to wait for the thing to power down or the computer to finish shutting down for you to unplug it.

2. It slows down all of my computers. I just built a pretty sick computer with an i7 processor, 64bit system, 16GB RAM... etc, and this thing slows it down *significantly*. Why? I have no idea. But it does it on all three of my computers.

3. 10 DAYS AFTER WARRANTY IT FAILED. Planned obsolescence much?

Other Thoughts: I have data for a large research study on this hard drive. While I have it backed up elsewhere, I've still lost a decent chunk of my stuff. Given that the amount of headache caused by this scenario will forever be burned in my memory, if Seagate does not help me recover this data for free, as it is only 10 days past warranty, and replace this external, I will never buy from them again. You have lost a repeat customer.

4 out of 5 eggsImpressed

Pros: Price.
Speed.
Can be used as internal drive without taking it out of the actual plastic case.

Cons: Makes a weird noise every now and then.

Other Thoughts: Recently my 2TB internal drive decided to die, I bought this drive as a back up drive, but since my 2TB drive thought I'd try it out as an internal drive(since it detaches from the mount thing easily. It is much faster than my other one as an internal drive and was impressed. Makes a weird noise since I put it in my comp but seems to be working fine.

2 out of 5 eggslove tap of death

Pros: got it for cheap, convenient, lots of storage for my laptop

Cons: Pulled it off the desk by the USB cord, drive dropped about 18 inches off a night stand onto a thick rug (so the drive makes a light impact onto the carpet). Drive starts servo beeps of death and won't be recognized by the computer.

Other Thoughts: Warranty coves up to 350gs of impact. Can any physics people tell me if a bump on the carpet equals 350 gs? I'd like to say it's not even close. Maybe it was static shock, but it was in the plastic case, which SHOULD protect against static. I would expect an external drive to be at least SLIGHTLY more rugged than this piece of junk. So much for all the data I backed up over the past year since I bought it.
