4 out of 5 eggsAs long as it isn't a faulty one it's great!

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: As the title says, If you get a working one it's great!

Cons: I purchased the this HDD but it was DOA on arrival... I called Newegg to RMA it and they sent me the second one immediately before I even sent the DOA one in. They said that I wouldn't get charged for the second one as long as I sent in the first one within 3 weeks... I got the new one 2 days later. GO NEWEGG! so really, this isn't much of a con but take it as you will...

1 out of 5 eggsDrives are not reliable

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Large capacity, and cheap

Cons: You are lucky if they last one year.. Yes I did the firmware upgrade. Moving to a different manufacturer, these drives are not reliable.

Other Thoughts: I've purchased 8 of these.. for an external raid box.. they are not reliable multiple failures.

5 out of 5 eggsRunning 16 Drives

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Purchased 9 a year ago, and then 7 more three months ago. This is a total of 16 drives running in a RAID 6 for a data server. No problems at all.

Cons: Price fluctuations. I wish the prices wouldn't have such wide swings. Between weeks it can swing $30.

1 out of 5 eggsJust get something else

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: They are hard drives

Cons: Only use them if you don't value your data

Other Thoughts: I bought three hard drives to put into a NAS back in 2012. One arrived dead, so Newegg replaced it and I got my RAID volume built.

Two weeks ago, one drive dies. I sent it back under warranty (which is up this month), and while I'm still waiting for the replacement to come in, another drive died this morning. So now everything on the NAS is gone.

This NAS isn't under heavy load; and it spins the drives down when not in use. The only movement those drives have ever experienced is during a move, where the NAS was sitting on a padded car seat. Otherwise they never moved, and that's three out of four drives failed within two years.

1 out of 5 eggs5 of 9 Failed

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: These drives perform flawless up until the point where they choke.

Cons: Of the 9 drives, of this model, that I have purchased in the last 2 years, 5 of them have failed.

Other Thoughts: Seagate and the associated resellers have been very good about replacing these failed drives, but the rate of failure is just too high to recommend this unit.

2 out of 5 eggs2 years and 2 mths

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Great while it lasted.

Cons: Only lasted just over a year. Do you back up all the data on a drive this large? Not likely unless you are using it in some sort of raid. Well of course plenty of precious data lost for such a short life span. I've always loved seagate, but what is going on with hard drives these days is terrible.

Other Thoughts: really only 2 years and a 1 year warranty? Sad.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Great price. Cheapest 7200rpm HDD I could find. Was the best Gb/$ ratio drive I could find that was 7200rpm. Bought 2 and both working smooth.

Cons: Have had issues with Seagate in the past but these drives have been working smooth for over a month. I only store pictures and video on them though so not any heavy use. My OS is on ssd.

Other Thoughts: Seatools is amazing. Very user friendly. I even use it to diagnose my old WD drives.

Careful buying those Green and intellipower drives. They don't spin at a full 7200rpm and can be slower. Also, the ones that change speed supposedly cause more wear and tear on the drive.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: -Huge storage capacity (since been eclipsed by 4-6 TB drives, but still respectably large capacity)
-Crammed full of media files
-Runs cool, fast, and quiet
-SMART readings are are still great after over a year of 24/7 up-time

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: 5th Seagate drive I've purchased and 0 have been DOA, even those delivered in boxes that appear to have been kicked down a stairwell or fallen out of the back of the truck. I don't think people are formatting their drives after installation..

1 out of 5 eggsBrand new and does not work.

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Good price for a 3TB drive. To bad that it does not work.

Cons: Brand new straight out of the box and it does not work. Tried it in two different systems. I wish that I had not bought this drive. Why do you keep selling this defective drive? It's defective and after reading reviews I am not the only person who has had problems with this drive.

Other Thoughts: Why do you keep selling this drive when everyone tells you it's defective?
