1 out of 5 eggsUntrustworthy Piece of Junk

This review is from: Seagate Desktop HDD ST3000DM001 3TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Worked perfectly for 3 months.

Cons: Stopped working completely after 3 months, taking my data with it. (Yes, I have a backup, but that's not the point now, is it?)

Other Thoughts: I would not recommend this product.

1 out of 5 eggsBad experience

This review is from: Seagate Desktop HDD ST3000DM001 3TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Worked nicely for just over 2 years....

Cons: Then 3 out of 4 failed.

Other Thoughts: I had 4 of these drives (three removed from external cases, one purchased bare). Now 3 out of the 4 have failed without any warning.

This review is from: Seagate Desktop HDD ST3000DM001 3TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: This did last me about 2 years, but now i lost everything. Turn on one day and screams, then fails.. Part of lawsuit should require seagate to recovery data lost.

1 out of 5 eggs3 out of 4 failed in first 30 days

This review is from: Seagate Desktop HDD ST3000DM001 3TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: None? I bought 4 for a RAID 10 setup. They failed so quickly, I'm glad I didn't have any important data on them. It's pretty poor product that fails faster than a raid can sustain in a short amount of time.

Cons: Title says it all.

Other Thoughts: Never been a Seagate fan. Decided I'd reverse my prejudice. Mistakes were made.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear John,

We apologize for the problems with your 3TB Desktop drives in your RAID system and would like to talk with you to determine the root cause and an available resolution.

A case has been created in our records based on your Newegg name that shows your review and our response. Please contact us directly using the following link:

We would like to note that for RAID systems, our NAS HDD would be better suited for your systems. Please reference the following link for additional details on this drive:

2 out of 5 eggsBought Two. Both Died.

This review is from: Seagate Desktop HDD ST3000DM001 3TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Decent price for a big drive in 2012.

Cons: 100% failure rate.

Other Thoughts: I bought two of these as redundant media drives in 10/12. Exactly three years later, one died. Then three months later before I could replace it, the other one died. What are the odds??? I am now trying to recover my data from either one. Guess these were just built to die.

1 out of 5 eggsBought 2 More - Both Defective

This review is from: Seagate Desktop HDD ST3000DM001 3TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Have used these drives without ANY issues for a couple of years in a JBOD array for film work on My Mac.

Cons: Bought 2 drives for PC backup, both drives defective. One had a 1/4" gash in the circuit board on the bottom, the other would only format to 2048KB - not the usual 2.7GB. Tried to reformat in my Windows 10 and XP machines - no go. Bottom line returning both of these.

Other Thoughts: Would have recommended based on previous experience with Seagate drives. Cannot recommend based on the current experience.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Greg,

We apologize for the problems experienced with your 3TB Desktop drives.

Please try using our DiscWizard utility to determine if you can format the drive to the proper capacity.

http://www.seagate.com/support/downloads/discwizard/

Also, try using SeaTools for DOS to see if you can set the drive capacity to the max using the advanced options:

http://www.seagate.com/support/downloads/seatools/

We would like to talk with you to determine an available resolution to the drive with the physical damage to the controller board. A support case (#05313978) has been created that will reference your review and our response. Please contact us directly using the following link:

1 out of 5 eggsOnly 2 of 8 Drives Worked

This review is from: Seagate Desktop HDD ST3000DM001 3TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: - Had a great price
- Seagate has done me well in the past

Cons: - Out of 8 drives, only 2 worked.
- 2 drives showed up as 2.2 TB and would not mount on multiple computers, trying multi drive docking bays (all 3tb compatible), and with various Thunderbolt and USB wires.
- 2 drives shoed up as 4 TB and would not mount/initialize
- 2 drives initialized and were 3TB but would continuously fail on larger file transfers

Other Thoughts: I've had good luck with Seagate generally until now. But 6 out of 8 drives not working is really horrible. I may have gotten extremely unlucky with the seller and this particular batch. Or perhaps because they were all shipped together, (very well padded/bubble-wrapped) something may have occurred. But it's just too many for my confidence to come back, and I would highly recommend considering another build of drive, if not an entirely different manufacturer. It's normal for the occasional drive to fail or come delivered with issues - but I'd say the average is more like 1 in 50 drives from my experience.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Jonathan,

We apologize for the problems experienced with your 3TB Desktop drives, as this is not typical or expected. If possible, please try these drives internally on an available computer to see if the proper capacity is registered in Disk Utility or in your BIOS (if PC).

Let us know the results as we would like to speak with you to determine the root cause and available resolution. A support case (#05313989) has been created that will reference your review and our response. Please contact us directly using the following link:

1 out of 5 eggsJunk

This review is from: Seagate Desktop HDD ST3000DM001 3TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Ran well for 9 months

Cons: Failed after 9 months. I work regulary with this stuff and have replaced about a dozen seagate hard drives this year. It figures that my own finally went. I try not to buy Seagate anymore and have used other brands that I rarely have problems with. Seagate is too much of a gamble anymore. If you're going to buy them buy two and run a RAID so you're still going when one fails.

Other Thoughts: I remember when Seagate made good drives. It's sad to see what they've become. Their QA department might want to step it up a bit.

Further more: The replacement Seagate sent me is hinky as all get out. Sometimes the drive just clicks and the next day it miraculously works again. Make sure you do frequent backups if you get this drive.
