1One gigabyte, or GB, equals one billion bytes and one terabyte, or TB, equals one trillion bytes when referring to hard drive capacity. 2Seagate ships this drive in both 4K- and 512-byte sectors. SmartAlign technology is included on 4K sector drives. Both drives are functionally and physically equivalent.

  • newegg Reliable Performance Seagate Barracuda delivers every capacity point from 250GB to 3TB on full 7200-RPM, SATA 6Gb/s platform and includes a host of refined technologies to further boost performance. Seagate OptiCache technology further exploits big 64MB cache sizes and improved microprocessor capabilities, helping boost overall performance by as much as 45% over previous generation.
  • newegg Maximizes hard drive storage densities Barracuda 1TB-per-disk technology incorporates 340,000 unique tracks in the width of a single inch. This incredible storage density drives new capacity possibilities and lowers your total storage costs. Seagate AcuTrac technology enables new storage densities with accurate reading and writing to nano-sized tracks that are only 75 nanometers wide! That’s about 500 times smaller than the period at the end of this sentence. (3 Disks for 2TB model)
  • newegg Green where it counts Barracuda desktop drives are produced using the most sophisticated manufacturing process in the industry, with a focus on environmental stewardship. Compliant with the RoHS and using less power, these hard drives not only save the world but also save your cost–without sacrificing performance.
  • newegg No-hassle transition to 4K sectors Are you worried about moving to Advanced Format 4K sector technology? You don’t have to be with Barracuda drives. Seagate SmartAlign technology makes this transition a snap: no utilities to run, and no extra integration steps to take up your time.

4 out of 5 eggsDisable APM to stop clicking sounds!

Pros: Have acquired two of these from Newegg so far and both are the two-platter variants

Cons: Aggressive APM

Other Thoughts: Everyone who gets these drives will most likely, within minutes of powering it up, begin to wonder what that frequent clicking sound is. This device has some aggressive Advanced Power Management going on. Disable APM and it will no longer make the clicking sounds. Google 'disable APM'. The first entry is about a Barracuda relative!

5 out of 5 eggsFast

Pros: Using in a nas, way quicker than my old 2tg green drives. They were also 50 bucks cheaper per drive than when I originally bought the greens.

Cons: Faster but uses a bit more power, I guess it is always a trade off.

1 out of 5 eggsHate This Hard Drive!

Pros: If I could get past the annoying noise, I might be able to find one

Cons: I have replaced this very same hard drive 4 times in less than 1 month. It makes the most annoying clicking sound that happens every 30 seconds or so. It's like water torture. I've done tests on this drive to make sure it is working properly and it seems to pass all tests...but that noise is driving me nuts. I even took the hard drive completely out of my computer and replaced it with the one from my old computer...and voila, blessed silence. Seagate must be aware by now that there is a flaw with this model hard drive, I just wish they would fix it.

4 out of 5 eggsNice

Pros: The system recognized the drive. It works like I need it to, at the moment its merely just for storage. depending on what you are saving to this drive 2tb should be enough.

Cons: none that I can notice.

4 out of 5 eggsSolid drive

Pros: 1. Size
2. Price
3. Cache
4. RPM
5. OS Agnostic
6. SATA 6.0GB/s based tech

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: I bought the one year extended warranty to alleviate any worries about maintenance beyond 2 years. Well worth the price for the service from Newegg.

It's primary function is a data drive seeing as I'm moving to SSD for boot/OS.

Posting issues are centered around Windows. I would like to know more about the filesystem used, which Windows Kernel/OS and the frequency.

On OS X, Linux and FreeBSD these issues don't surface.

I bought the retail package for $104. Worth the extra few dollars. Includes Drivers/Diagnostic Software and SATA cable.

Newegg really should start flagging reviews that all too often come in bunches whenever a product gets a quality run of positive reviews. Grow up people. I expect details when a drive fails and the symptoms not the same schtick about random unnecessary post commands annoying the user.

2 out of 5 eggsBuy at Own Risk

Pros: Good price for the size of the drive

Cons: Ordered 2 - 1 dead on arrival the other makes a funny noise when starting.
Returned DOA drive for a replacement. Just hope the replacement works and they both hold up with use.

Other Thoughts: I usually bought Seagate drives and since Seagate bought them out I thought I would try Seagate. Might have been a mistake and will have to go back to WD.

2 out of 5 eggsDrives functioned, sent back due to squealing noise

Pros: Fast drives
No problems mirrored
Arrived as working units

Cons: Squealing noise was horrible when drives were accessing data. A pair of these mirrored was easily heard in a standard office work space.

Other Thoughts: If these are going in a computer tucked away in a closet or out of earshot, then great. Right next to your desk will drive you insane.
