1 out of 5 eggsBE CAREFUL!

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM001 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: None - in MY experience. These drives are REALLY POOR quality.

Cons: All I have to say is I bought 12 (TWELVE) of these - OVER HALF were DOA. Seagate replaced them fast - but when the ones that weren't DOA started to die after a SHORT while (AND THEY WILL), they replaced those with REFURBISHED DRIVES - ALL of which have been DOA (I JUST tried to use the last one today - opened the packaging and - DEAD. Certified Refurbished is TOTAL cowpie (the censors here...)!). The ONE good thing I have to say is when I spoke to a CSR, he broke the rules and replaced two of them with brand new 3TB drives - but couldn't do it for all of my RMA's (the he had to send me what have turned out to be USELESS refurbished drives) - so I am forced to buy MORE drives (BUT NEVER AGAIN FROM SEAGATE) to replace the ones that I should have had great life with from Seagate. It really is a shame as I USED to be a Seagate evangelist - but in their vigor to earn more money at the expense of quality - their drives have gone to the dogs. Paperweights - that's all they are good for.

Other Thoughts: I would NOT (a VIGOROUS NOT) recommend these drives to ANYONE. And Seagate will NOT realize that replacing a DEAD drive with ANOTHER dead drive is NOT customer service.

2 out of 5 eggs3 years and it's dead

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM001 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: It was nice while it lasted.

Cons: Died with no warning. Tons of personal data lost.

Other Thoughts: I have never had a hard drive mechanically fail (click-of-death) on me before. I have also never had a name-brand hard drive die on me in less than 7 or 8 years.

Not happy with Seagate right now. Probably won't be buying any more from them.

1 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM001 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: ? Cheap

Cons: When not in use for extended periods of time, it will take 60-90 seconds to access any data on the drive, no matter the size of the data. During the 60-90 seconds freeze up, the entire drive plus any application accessing that drive will freeze.

This is obviously a defect.

I use it now as a backup data drive for my other "working" data drive, and I can't install any games/software on this drive because of the freeze-up's.

Not planning to replace, I'm never getting a Barracuda ever again, I've always had problems with them, even going back to 2003.

I am open ears for a cool way to destroy the last Barracuda I'll ever own, for entertainment purposes of course.

Other Thoughts: Owned for 10 months.

1 out of 5 eggs3rd Seagate Drive to fail

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM001 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Somewhat cheap. I bought 2 of these drives to start tinkering with TV recording. They seemed to work well until I started networking other HTPCs to pull data (watch the recordings) Long story short, these drives may work well for the casual PC user - but if you are gonna put ANY kind of stress on them, they will fail quickly. Not recommended for video rendering or any HTPC based applications - the controllers are not up to snuff for any substantial work load. Once SMART starts to report errors, its game over - if your are getting SMART warnings BACK UP your data right away.

Cons: Once SMART detected errors, drive failed in under a week. Take SMART warnings seriously, when the controller fails your data is gone - unless you have deep pockets and want to ship out your drive to be rebuilt. This is the 3rd Seagate drive to fail in this manner in the past 6 months. The other 2 were the 3Tb versions used in a DVR setting.

Other Thoughts: These drives might work OK for the casual PC user. But if you put them to work, they will fail. To put this in perspective, I have, in the same system, a WD 1Tb Caviar Black over 8 yrs old (ported from an older PC) with well over 50,000 hours of power on time logged that I use as my applications install drive (the drive that gets ridden hard) and it is still chugging away with no Crystal Disk cautions. The 2 3Tb drives failed in under 4000 hours of duress and the 2 2TB drives in under 20000 hours of more casual use. I felt it important to take this time to save someone out there the headache and hours lost and significant data loss - spend a little more and get a better quality drive and always back up your data. Seagate dont bother contacting me as I am no longer interested in your product line - 4 HDDs over past 3 years (Newegg can confirm this) and 4 complete failures - I am spending a little more for higher quality and dependability - I am sticking with Western Digital (their high end Black line to be exact) My data and my time are too important to waste on this. Hope this helps. BTW - if you own a Seagate drive and SMART is reporting errors - BACK UP your data immediately - the controller failure is instant and unrelenting and the OS wont even see the drive when that happens.

3 out of 5 eggsgreat drive

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM001 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: working great so far

Cons: none so far

Other Thoughts: despite the bad reviews, I went ahead with this drive as it was part of a combo deal with a SSD
SSD runs as primary drive, while this seagate is only for storage .. works great so far

1 out of 5 eggsBad Drive.

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM001 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: -High capcity.

Cons: -Short life span
-Bad suport

Other Thoughts: I have returend this drive to seagate hoping to get a new one I get the same drive "refurbished" only to loss my warrenty and to have the same problems as when I sent it in. The problem I had and am having is the drive keeps breaking my files, I have gone through 5 reinstalls (2 windows 7, 3 Ubuntu mate) only to have then unable to boot a couple weeks later. And no its not only the boot files documents, music, photos, almost any file that is on the drive meanwhile I have a 750Gb Hitatchi drive from a 4 year old Dell still working fine.

Final thoughts get a WD drive.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't Buy this drive

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM001 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Nothing a different company doesn't have

Cons: This is the third drive of this model I have purchased, They have failed every time within 2-3 months of purchase. It has caused me nothing but headaches. I will never buy a Seagate again

Other Thoughts: Take your money elsewhere

1 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM001 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: I owned this drive for little under a year and now it's failing. I would not recommend spending money on this drive. Seagate drives seem to fail more often than they should these days. The quality just isn't what it use to be years ago. Even with a warranty I would rather just buy a drive that works than having to keep replacing it.

Cons: between the 6 month - 1 year point starting getting extremely slow speeds and bad performance from the drive because the drive started failing.

1 out of 5 eggsDead after 3 months or less of use

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM001 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: I don't normally write reviews, but in this case because I am a long time user of Seagate drives I felt that I needed too. I purchased this drive #St2000DM001 and also ST2000DM000. Well the M001 failed after less than 3 months use and I'm mad to say that I had moved data to this drive and had not yet had a chance to add it to any backup procedure. I know, punishment for trusting Seagate. But really, failure after less then three months, I hope this is not the start of a quality change. . .

Cons: Failure after less than three months. I am pro-Seagate, but I am mad that I lost data because of this early failure. I will update this after I see how I am treated by Customer service. (I must do a better job at reading and writing reviews.)
