1 out of 5 eggsDied after 2 years

Pros: It worked fine while it was alive.

Cons: Died after two years. I expect my hard drives to last more than 5 years.

5 out of 5 eggsIt's a Hard Disk Drive

Pros: Hasn't failed on me, and stores lots of data.

Cons: After owning a SSD, this thing feels slower that before.. but for a HDD, this is still great!

5 out of 5 eggsGoing strong 3+ years

Pros: I purchased these in June of 2011. I initially had them in a Raid 1 setup. I've sense given one to my wife, and have one in main rig with all my steam games. I've had zero issues which is more than what I can say about my ssd purchases. Three out of the five I've purchased still work. :)

Cons: I wish I would've bought more before the prices went up! I'll probably end up picking up a few more now though.

Other Thoughts: I've had good luck with seagate and western digital. You can't go wrong either way.

1 out of 5 eggsStay Away!

Pros: Cheap. 7200 RPM.

Cons: Cheap. Originally purchased 2/2013. Just now failed (only lasted 2 yrs). Not detected in BIOS, makes consistent clicking noises.

I originally bought this as a replacement for my parents' computer. Quite a lot of family photos, homework, music, etc. are all potentially lost (they don't do backups... yeah, I know).

Still covered under warranty, but obviously it's the data, not the drive, that's valuable.

I'm going to try swapping out the Controller Board and praying that works. If it fails, I can't afford $1000+ clean room data recovery fees and will be out of luck.

Seagate is well known for making drives with higher-than-normal failure rates. STAY AWAY!

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: cheap price

Cons: Defective, and when I mailed it for an exchange for a new one, it somehow was mysteriously lost.... Would not trust UPS or returning items

5 out of 5 eggsRefurb'ed Awesome

Pros: 5th April 2014
Acquired this drive for $49.00 and it's still functioning without an issue to this date of 14th January 2015. It serves as a tertiary drive for archiving.
Working great in conjunction with my Radeon RAMDisk,

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I have this drive and two others configured with a disk cache. The disk cache is comprised of (L1) 4G of RAM and a (L2) 4G Radeon RAMDisk. It's IOPS is "on par" with some SSD's. Yes, it's performance is augmented along with the EVO 120's and Seagate XT750 SSHD's.

1 out of 5 eggsNot too impressive!!

Pros: The only positive I can take away from having bought/used these 2 hard drives is that I will stick with WD from now on. They seem to last a whole lot longer.

Cons: Lasted 3.5 years and both died almost simultaneously. The price must have seemed right at the time I bought them, however I almost lost the data stored on them. Fortunately I used the "freezer" technique and was able to clone the drives and restore all data. Put the drives in ziplock freezer bags overnight, then used the next day used a hard drive clone machine (inside freezer) and got all data back.

Other Thoughts: Won't be buying Seagate drives again. They used to be really good, but seem to have gone down-hill in quality. I had 2 WD Green drives in my NAS alongside of these 2 Seagate drives; the WD drives are still going strong. Guess which brand I'll be sticking with? Am now using the WD Red drives, since they are designed for NAS use. Just my $.02 worth.

1 out of 5 eggsLasted 13 Months - Avoid This Product!

Pros: Was cheap at the time

Cons: Lasted 13 months. What a piece of junk.

As soon as it got full of data, the drive disappeared from Windows. 1TB of data lost forever. How awesome is that?

Other Thoughts: At the time of purchase, I'm almost certain the warranty was only for 1 yr. Now it's for 2 yrs. Okay... w/e.

When a hard drive dies, it's simply time to buy an new one. Because the Refurbished unit they send back will be in the same or worse condition as the original.

They basically get away with robbing you. Great way to treat people huh.
