1 out of 5 eggsFAIL

Pros: Looks nice, capacity

Cons: Purchased this drive after reading bad reviews on WD drives. Absolutely ridiculous that this drive fails after 2 years of LIGHT use. I would use it for backing up only and wouldn't leave it plugged in and running. It probably has a total of 10 hours of actual run time on it. Now I am left with a failed HD with all my photos, movies, documents etc. I WILL NOT BE purchasing SeaGate again

Pros: I have had this drive since 2010 and it has never failed me once. And I have yet to fill it up as well. it works as a great back up storage drive.

3 out of 5 eggsDied after 2 Years

Pros: LOTS of storage, Very Quiet

Cons: 1-Year Warranty only, died suddenly after two solid years.

Other Thoughts: Loved this drive while it lasted. I used it for scheduled backups. Strangely, like other reviewers, it died around the 2-year mark. Worked perfectly until about a week ago, then started ejecting itself. I tried replacing the USB connection cable, and the power cable with no change. Looking to replace it with another brand.

2 out of 5 eggsReplaced parts twice

Pros: Lot of space.

Cons: Bulky, in the way, had to replace the usb port twice on the hard drive itself within 5 months of each other, had to replace the power supply three times already.

Other Thoughts: It was great for the storage, but bad for everything else.

3 out of 5 eggsWorked great while it lasted!

Pros: Reasonably priced.
Great look.
USB makes for fast transfer speed.
Easy setup.
User friendly.
Large storage space for the price.

Cons: Failed in about 2 yrs of very light use.

I would even turn it off when I wasn't using it, and used it very sporadically. Started to have a clicking sound, which seemed like something in the case was misfiring. It sat next to printer where it was never moved, so it was not mistreated. Sure enough, once I opened it up (since I've had it for 2+ yrs) and plugged the hard drive into my computer. It works just fine as an internal drive! So for sure it was the casing that went wrong.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Price, when I got it.
Storage size.

Cons: Enclosure is not properly vented, really could use a fan.
After it gets a bit warm, it starts giving I/O errors, have to unplug it and let it cool for about 30-45 minutes to use it again.
When it is working, transfer speeds are a bit on the slow side.

Other Thoughts: Had this for a little over a year, worked great for the first couple months. then it started with the errors.

Just got through backing up everything I could to my new storage drive(an internal this time, don't have to worry about junk enclosures and heat issues).
Reformatted it and the drive itself seems fine, so I think it was the usb-sata interface in the enclosure(something getting desoldered with the heat). Might just pull the drive and use it as another internal if it checks out with seatools.

5 out of 5 eggsThings still chuggin a year later

Pros: This thing is resilient. Over the year I've dropped this thing so many times and much to my delight, it has never failed on me.

Cons: expensive for 1TB, bulky beyond belief - don't plan on carrying this thing around, it's heavy. Not a passport so it needs AC power.
