2 out of 5 eggsThese are not for typical desktops

Pros: Price and performance if using for their specific purpose, I will get to that in other comments.

Cons: If raided and/or with a operating system installed in single drive setup, performance is degraded to below ata150. Newegg did not specify what purpose these drives were designed for, Seagate had to inform me.

Other Thoughts: Okay, After running HDtach and other HD performance utilities, I noticed that these sata 2 drives were performing at only ata150 speeds. This is because these drive were designed for surveilance and video edit purposes. They do not handle raid configs or operating systems installed on them well. If looking for desktop solutions you want to purchase the NS (for raid) or the AS models for typical desktop solutions. These VS versions are good for additional drives to video edit or simple storage or even for those of you wanting to use your comp as a DVR or security comp.

5 out of 5 eggsSV35 Series

Pros: We have installed approximately 25 Seagate SV35 drives (500-GB and 1-TB) in DVR's since their inception about two and a half years ago. I have had one drive failure and it occurred within 30 days. These systems run 24/7 non-stop. The SV35 series has outperformed every other drive we have ever used in the past 6 years. The reliability gap isn't even close. I will use no other drive for video surveillance applications than the Seagate SV35.

Cons: When I returned the defective drive to Seagate they refused to replace it with a new drive. The rebuilt replacement drive was DOA. Seagate's customer support lags significantly behind their product quality.

1 out of 5 eggsNot worth the money

Pros: A cheap drive

Cons: NOT RELIABLE!!!!!! Seagate was once a good name when it came to hard drives, but lately they are selling junk. Drive failed within a year and Seagate will only replace it with a refurbished piece of junk.

Other Thoughts: I am glad that I made the purchase through Newegg. They did eveything that they could to help me get a new replacement from Seagate.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Drive For Me!!!

Pros: Unit tuns fast for me, price was great at the time and have yet to have a problem.

Cons: Non yet.

Other Thoughts: Other people claim to have a high failure rate but I've ran this almost 24/7 for over a year as my main drive and never had a hiccup.

4 out of 5 eggsAV drive NOT for PC's

Pros: Works fine for its intended purpose such as digital video recorders where error rate is not important.

Cons: I have replaced several of these drives in PC's. Seagate clearly states that this drive is designed for AV use only where it really does not matter if a little of the data is corrupted. They are terrrible for RAID configurations.

Newegg probably should add a warning to NOT use this drive for general PC use. Seagate makes it clear on their site but obviously some buyers do not read well.

Other Thoughts: Get the Seagate drives with model numbers ending in NS but NOT CS or SV for computer use. The AS series are OK but the NS are built for commercial 7x24 use and are better - - especially for RAID.

2 out of 5 eggsFailed in 4 months

Pros: Cheap drive - fast

Cons: Failed after 4 months

Other Thoughts: Avoid this drive and spend the extra cash for something a little more reliable. Seems to be a problem with this particular series.

2 out of 5 eggsBAD

Pros: works.....WORKED great

Cons: the harddrive died on me after 3 months and on my other pc in 1 month, i realized all my older pc (that still work great) have other harddrives and i beleive their are only 2 big hdd companys so you know who im talking about..., but anyways i had to pay 10 bucks to ship it to seagate (past 1 month couldn't return to newegg) and got it back in about 3 weeks.

Other Thoughts: bad bad bad

2 out of 5 eggsGreat drive, until it died

Pros: Good, quiet drive. Decent price.

Cons: Drive failed in less than 2 months.

Other Thoughts: Upgraded Tivo HD with one of these. Worked great for about 2 months, then the drive just died. RMA with Seagate was a hassle. Also, Newegg doesn't seem to ship OEM drives properly. I realize all hard drives fail, but I'm curious as to what the failure rates are for these seagates.

2 out of 5 eggs50/50

Pros: The one drive that worked was very fast.

Cons: One drive degraded in a RAID 0 and then eventually kicked the bucket after a week. Never got to test RAID performance accurately. Drives were packed poorly for shipping. One drive had the edge of it's casing up against the wall of the box with only a sheet of plastic in between.

Other Thoughts: Not sure whether the failed drive was due to poor shipping or defect but I'm not fond of seagate to begin with so I am RMAing both drives and getting WD Caviar Blacks instead.
