2 out of 5 eggsDeskstar 7K1000.C HDS721010CLA332

Pros: Quiet big storage for a low price.

Cons: Probably not the most reliable drive, 'you get what you pay for'...

Other Thoughts: The price was so good that I bought a second one as a backup. After two years of use, the first drive had a catastrophic crash (without S.M.A.R.T. error) and would not spin up. I installed the second drive which went less that three weeks before S.M.A.R.T. said it was ready to fail, even though it had never been out of the packing box! No format tool was able to resurrect the HDD.

2 out of 5 eggs1/2 Dead

Pros: Cheap 7200 1TB Drive

Cons: Bought two over a year ago. One has been working great under a lot of load. Other was lightly utilized and started slowly dying the last few months.

5 out of 5 eggsGood drive

Pros: Fastest drive of its generation. Reliable. Haven't encountered any data errors or bad sector errors.

Cons: Weeks after I made my purchase, The cost went up 3-4x after the flooding in Thailand and still costs more now than when it was the latest and greatest drive.

Other Thoughts: Haven't had to RMA this puppy yet and expect a few more years of service out of it.

2 out of 5 eggsWhat Happened Hitachi ??

Pros: Fast

Cons: Too many went belly up. I'm using these in a Mini SAS RAID 5 situation. These are failing at a rate of one a week.

Other Thoughts: Boy I really used to trust Hitachi with all my data. But now there quality control has really gone down. I think the reason they change model numbers so often is because the bad reviews pile up. It's almost like filing chapter 11. They can just walk away from a hard drive model and start a new model number.

1 out of 5 eggsThought it was good.. NOPE!

Pros: Only good thing is its 1 tb, though now thats "normal"

Cons: After 4 months of moderate/light use (4 weeks of which was no use at all), turned it on to find clicking and HDD error prompts. Scanning resulted in "no errors found", but with more prompts. Restarting resulted in several hours of fussing as it refused to even get past the startup scans. Had to completely restore the computer just to get into it - to still have the hd errors. Im not completely computer savvy, but Ive never ever had a HDD crash on me before, nor one so quickly. Its also the first Hitachi. Would not recommend this to anyone looking for quality goods - youll just end up spending 100$+ more in a few months to replace it. ..forbid if its your main operating-system drive like it is for me..

Other Thoughts: Dont waste your time, go buy a seagate

2 out of 5 eggsNever Buying Hitachi Again

Pros: Works, loads OS, fast for 2 weeks or so.

Cons: Very loud crunching noise, which sounds like bad heads. I call hitachi and they said I have to wait 15 days for a new drive? No advanced warranty, comes from Singapore? Wow. On top of that the customer support guy sounded like he hated me and like I was a waste of time. tl;dr

Bad customer support
Failing drives.

Other Thoughts: I am not buying hitachi again for the reasons listed above. I'm spending my money on a western digital from here on.

1 out of 5 eggsSimple: Don't Buy This HDD

Pros: None

Cons: The drive didn't work as it arrived. Also on another machine one of the Hitachi drives failed after <8months. Hitachi used to be my favorite HD manufacturer, we have a system running here for over 6 years with Hitachi drives and it still runs great. The quality of Hitachi now is below par unfortunately and I would not recommend anybody to buy it.

1 out of 5 eggsGarbage

Pros: Was a nice price and I had a great hitachi hd 8-10 yrs ago

Cons: This is garbage and started clicking after the 2nd month. I bought it thinking it was a reputable brand. I would steer clear from Hitachi. I can still access the HD; however, it makes clicking sounds and I get a "Save Data / HD Corrupt MSG" I want to return this, but unfortunately I work 60+ hrs a week and dont have time to sit and call newegg/hitachi/american express.

2 out of 5 eggsHit or Miss

Pros: When I purchased the drive, it was relatively inexpensive compared to other drives at the time. Performance of the drive was satisfatory. I had to RMA my drive back to Hitachi. I am adding an extra star because when I sent my drive back, Hitachi replaced it without any resistance.

Cons: Dead after a year of ownership. The drive clicks, clicks, clicks, and data is unreadable. It's a good thing I had a backup of my data. The other reviews here detailing their drive went bad are very real. I actaully looked up this drive after my drive failed to see if others encountered the same problem. I am hoping the replacement drive I will get will not suffer from the same fate.

Other Thoughts: This drive cannot be counted for for your data. I read another review from a guy saying he hated seeing negative reviews for this drive? Well buddy, if your drive fails and you lose all your data, wouldn't you give it a negative review instead of 5 stars? Get real.

1 out of 5 eggs2nd time

Pros: Nothing at this point. It has costed me more than other drives since I had to RMA

Cons: I sent out and received a new hard drive. It costs me 20+ to send out for RMA. It was clicking all the time and finally it just started having massive errors and finally died. I had to unplug it from my computer as a secondary hard drive. This new one is clicking a lot sooner now and following the same suit. I suspect it will have the same fate within the next few months.

Other Thoughts: I'm never buying from hitachi again. This is ridiculous. Both hard drives have died/are dying and I have to pay to RMA this HD back.
