The Deskstar 7K1000.D is Hitachi's first one-disk, 1TB, 7200 RPM 3.5-inch hard drive for use in power-friendly consumer and commercial desktop computers. This fourth-generation 1TB hard drive from Hitachi uses Advanced Format, which increases the sector size on HDDs from 512 bytes to 4096 (4K) bytes, thereby increasing capacities and improving error correcting capabilities. Consult the Hitachi Advanced Format Technology Brief for more information on these drives. Leveraging eighth-generation power management technology, as well as power-saving HiVERT innovations pioneered on the popular 2.5-inch line of notebook hard drives from Hitachi, this new desktop drive provides up to 16% idle power savings over the previous model, delivering best-in-class power management and thermal emissions.

5 out of 5 eggsOkay drive

Pros: Not DOA which was huge at the time of purchase.
Speeds are normal.
Plenty of space for a Boot Drive

Cons: Pricey for size ratio when you can get a 1tb or 2tb for a couple of bucks more.

Other Thoughts: Purchased this during the time of the flood. I needed a boot drive for an HTPC and this was the best price to size ratio. I now use it as a backup drive for my important data. Have SMART utilities running to monitor its health and so far so good.
If I could go back in time, i would have waited a few months and purchased a 1tb after prices stabilized (came back earlier than predicted). But this did renew my faith in Hitachi.

1 out of 5 eggsRubbish

Pros: Worked well for a little while...

Cons: Crashed after about 10 months; now a paperweight.
I've never had a problem so quickly with a hard drive.
I will not be buying Hitachi anymore.

1 out of 5 eggsSame bad news as the rest

Pros: None.

Cons: Started giving me problems within the first couple of months. Check the disk for errors, and it had way too many errors to count (stopped the scan after a couple of hours). I should have listened to all the negative reviews. Really bad business model Hitachi. I have learned my lesson. NEVER AGAIN!

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Received a replacement HDD for one that went bad after 4 or 5 months, getting worse up to the point it became unusable. I filed an RMA and I received a new drive promptly.

Cons: The replacement HDD made weird noises from it's first power up in my PC. After some weeks it has problems similar to the first one.

Other Thoughts: I seriously wish I could give a negative rating. I don't even want to go through the RMA thing again, I just want my money back.

1 out of 5 eggsSpeechless

Pros: First off I have had alot of faith in all drives I purchased in the past from Hitachi. And my main HDD is plugging along after 7 years; 5 years of constant use. This HDD was to eventually replace my aging SATA 3.0
(2nd to last page for first review)

Cons: But after only 3 months of use on this drive it failed just haven't updated from my last review of this product. I guess this is the time to go SSD.

Other Thoughts: Really bummed atm. Considering that was the first item I reviewed in lastest build, thinking it was a Hitachi it will never fail me.

1 out of 5 eggsNot 1TB as in Overview

Pros: Hitachi has been my favorite drive. Most of my HDDs are Hitachi in four desktops.

Cons: newegg and HGST (Hitachi) could communicate about the confusion in the Overview talking about this model 1TB HDD versus the title of the HDD saying 750GB. Hitachi support clarified that it comes in several data capacities.
This is my first big problem with a Hitachi drives so I am giving it a low rating, although there may be another hidden culprit, like a devil in the details. Forgive me Hitachi if I am wrong.

Other Thoughts: Windows Operating Systems are not installing. Computer keeps rebooting through the BIOS screens, and does not stop at the screen for first boot priority optical drive, and does not display the "press any key to enter set up". It spins like a wheel at high speed.
