3 out of 5 eggsUpdate on 2011 purchase

Pros: One of the two drives I purchased has lasted 4 years!

Cons: One did not, Rma process : Packing slip? Original receipt?
One drive failed after a month

Other Thoughts: 1. Name, address, and phone number of the retailer

2. Date you purchased the product

3. Description of product (model number and serial number)

4. Purchase price

5. Method of payment

If you purchased your product online, we require your packing slip to validate the above five requirements. Please reply to this e-mail with an attachment of the scanned copy of your sales receipt in either JPG or GIF format. In most cases, we can receive a file approximately 100KB to 500 KB
Who has all this information, after 4 years?

5 out of 5 eggsOnly up to date hardware in my system...

Pros: Quick
Long life
Low Failure rates
Long warranty

Cons: All hard drives can ship a brick

Other Thoughts: Bought this in 2011 during the flooding in thailand (~80% of THE WORLD'S supply of HDs come from there) for almost $200. WD Black are the best IMO, backed by manufacturers warranty. This is the only piece of technology left in my computer besides my case that is still relevant. I understand some people might get bad hard drives but that is the case with any technology. I haven't had a single problem with any WD product. 4 years strong.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks as advertised

Pros: The drive was easily installed, and loading it with an operating system (Windows 7) and transitioning to daily usage was a breeze. After installing an SSD around a year later, it works equally well as a backup and media drive while the SSD runs all of the operating system files. No problems to report.

Cons: None to report in two years of ownership.

2 out of 5 eggsVery Disappointed

Pros: Worked great in the beginning. Decent speed.

Cons: Died three years later. I mean completely dead. Tried on three separate systems. None of them will even boot with the disk attached, even when it isn't the boot disk. Took to a data recovery company and they want $1600 to recover the data. They say it has both bad sectors and mechanical failure.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat drive!

Pros: Bought in 2011, only $49.99 then and for some odd reason it jumped drastically in price but I say it's still worth it. Very reliable and no problems after 3 years. It is very quiet and fast.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsFail but still Happy

Pros: Good solid WD Black quality. Easy RMS process. This device was replaced with another WD black. Only out of pocket was <$7 shipping to WD.

Cons: Yes, this drive started to fail after 3+ years and it was noticed before complete failure. I was able to transfer nearly all my data over to another drive prior to RMA this drive to WD. The data I didn't transfer was by choice not because it was lost. Acronis and WD Data Lifeguard are good tools, they stay on my system and I check my drives regularly.

Other Thoughts: System started running sluggish and especially when accessing 500GB secondary drive. Acronis and WD Utilities shows bad drive, would not finish tests ended in premature failure. Followed WD RMA process and choose non-prepaid return (since this was a backup drive). I was able to save 95% of data on my main drive prior to sending it back. No fuss. These drives are 3+ years old. I cannot conplain one bit. System is on 24/7/365
