4 out of 5 eggsWhy do you expect cheap to be flawless

Pros: this is a good fast drive with a lot of power...
when it works well it is a extreme value for its ability....

Cons: When it does not work well it's a brick just like every thing else that doesnt work properly.... but you usually know very quickly if it's a bad drive (the inexcusable part would be if you copy data over then 4 weeks later it falls apart - THAT WOULD BE A bad DRIVE - not one with obvies errors at the begining - which is usually a platter problem)

Other Thoughts: but it's cheap so why would you expect to get perfection every time - you get what you pay for - not really because when this this works properly you ger far more then what you are paying for and when it doesn't you get a new one...
why am i writing this - well it's annoying for me how many people can state things they have no idea about...
if you want a gaurenteed reliable drive you do not have to worry about - then pay the cost for that usually 4X the cost of this - plus the annoying fact that you are not going to get much more speed out of it or life span - in direct relation to the price.... you see these drives are very fast and when they do work which is like 99.99% of the time they work for a very long time

5 out of 5 eggsBeware of bad packaging

Pros: This is a solid performing drive.

Cons: Newegg has a reputation for poorly packaging hard drives. Mine arrived DOA.

Oddly enough the DVD burner shipped in the same box was quite well wrapped.

Other Thoughts: If your drive arrives DOA - politely ask Newegg to pay for return shipping. Perhaps if this happens enough, they will realize using a little bubble wrap or foam is more cost effective than issuing a bunch of RMA's.

5 out of 5 eggsDo we have a change in packaging??

Pros: WOW! I must say Newegg really stepped up their game with this order of hard drives.
In the past I have always received drives that were poorly wrapped in a single layer of bubble wrap and tossed is a box with a hand full of packing peanuts and they called it good. With this order I purchased two drives and again was expecting the same sloppy shipping. BUT, to my surprise each drive was wrapped in a layer of bubble wrap and then each slid in their own sturdy cardboard shipping sleeve. The end result was I had received two drives in the same box that had never had the chance to bang against the side to the box or each other. THANK YOU NEWEGG!!!!!!

Cons: Absolutely none.

1 out of 5 eggsProblematic Drives

Pros: Outstanding Newegg processing, packing, and shipping.

Cons: Can't get even one to work correctly yet. Corrupts anything you try to store on it. Makes my system take up to 2 hours to boot trying to recognize it. Can't even find anything on the WD support site for this model, just all the others. Maybe I'm missing something here, but today I just replaced the one in my new rig with a WD1001FALS 1TB and all my problems were gone. There's something about these drives that just doesn't make sense.

Other Thoughts: I'm using an ASUS P5Q Pro Turbo with the Speed Drive feature. I first hooked them up as a fast speed drive (RAID 0 Array) and it only recognized 1.3 gig. Hit the 2 Gig ceiling. Then I set them up as a mirror array, no success. Eventually recognizes the proper disk size, but can't keep integrity. Disconnected one and tried to use only one in normal mode. Boot times measured in hours and files corrupted.

5 out of 5 eggsHuge & Cheap

Pros: This drive arrived in beautiful bubble wrap, unlike other reviews and I had other items shipped with it. I installed this drive in a CD drive slot with the help of a $6 adapter and it fit perfectly. I did notice the clicking people talk about, but I'm unconcerned because it's really not all that loud. I've owned Western Digi HDD's for a while now and have had NONE fail and I recommend this drive!

Cons: none unless it fails...

Other Thoughts: Great price, arrived safely in bubble wrap, worked right away! What else you need to know??? O yea, arrived in 2 days, new egg rocks!!

5 out of 5 eggsHuge storage drive for cheap

Pros: Seemingly quiet, relatively cool, 64mb cache seems to have sped up reads/writes, 5-yr warranty.

Cons: Hopefully none unless this thing fails.

Other Thoughts: This replaced a WD 500GB Blue 16MB cache drive. I could tell the difference instantly when I restored data to it. It seems to read/write a lot quicker and overall just be a better drive technology wise. Seems quiet enough but I run a 2nd drive and 4 fans, so noise is just happening regardless. Nothing whiny or noticeable outside normal PC noise.

On a 2nd note, WD warranty was awesome for a different drive I sent back. I sent them a bad 500GB Blue and received a re-certified 640GB Black drive 2 days later. Top notch WD. This is why I will forever buy your drives and not Seagate (multiple drives have failed me, 1st time for a WD drive) or any other brand.

5 out of 5 eggsMy clicky friend

Pros: Unlike other reviews who talk about the HD being packed in peanuts, mine came from the Memphis warehouse (UPS tracking) and arrived in beautiful bubble wrap along the other items I ordered.

Cons: My comp sits on my desk right next to me like a lil bro, and it does click when its crushin' through some deep video files, but no worries, if ya know what I mean.

3 out of 5 eggsNoisy Drive

Pros: - Works fine, using Windows 7 64 bit, with 2 of these drives in a mirroring RAID array, I have done a full sector scan and no bad sectors, SMART seems to be working fine as well.
- My temperatures seem fine, I've been copying files for 30 minutes so far, 39 degrees Celsius. (My drives are behind my front intake fans though)

Cons: - Very noisy, my tower is on my desk next to me, I haven't heard noise like this since my old Windows 98 PC, they sound like someone driving on a gravel road or rocks grinding together. Quite audible when they're working.

Other Thoughts: - Good for the price, wish they were quieter, might be fine if you don't mind the noise or have your tower under your desk.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great price for its capacity. Fast. Not much to say other than it performs as expected and doesn't cost much.

Cons: Like others said, it's very audible when seeking. Not too loud, but it definitely catches your attention especially during system updates, program installations, or defragging.

Other Thoughts: This is basically a WD2001FASS with one missing/defective/disabled platter, which I imagine is why it's at such a nice discount. Others have reported this drive running hot, but mine is running at 38C while its neighbor, a WD 1TB Caviar Green, is running at 34C; not exactly a worrisome temp increase.
