1 out of 5 eggsBroken Drive

Pros: None

Cons: OS refused to install and gave an error message "this drive is about to fail. Replace with a good drive to proceed." Then the drive could not be formatted. I was sent a piece of rubbish.

Other Thoughts: Hopefully the replacement drive will work..once I get it.

3 out of 5 eggs1 For 2 OK

Pros: I have used these drives on several PCs with good luck. Very fast and quiet. Have improved performance on each PC. Five stars for performance, BUT -----

Cons: Unfortunately one of the two delivered in the latest order was DOA. Never happened to me before. Guess it's getting more common with HDs from what I'm seeing in reviews of all manufacturers. Zero stars.

Other Thoughts: I received my RMA quickly, and have shipped the DOA unit back for replacement. Hope the next one is OK. Burns me up that I have to pay shipping costs for return of a unit that never worked for a second. A real ripoff as far as I am concerned.

3 out of 5 eggsForrest Gump of drives?

Pros: Quick & quiet.

Cons: Like the title says, you don't know what you're getting until you use it!

Other Thoughts: Ordered 3 of the EXACT same drives within a 1 week period, 2 were slow, load & clunky, the last was what I expected, smooth, quite, & zippy. All 3 were built into the exact same PC, part for part, no deviation what-so-ever.

What the heck WD? Where's the consistency? Life it NOT supposed to be like a box of hard drives...

No, I didn't bother to check what country they were from, or what build date, etc., who cares really? I shouldn't have to, after all, they're the EXACT same model.

This is frustrating.

1 out of 5 eggsBroken out of box

Pros: Large I guess?

Cons: As soon as OS was loaded it immediately gave me notices of harddrive failure. HD failed SMART test. DOA stinker.

Other Thoughts: What a waste of time and money for me, first time I've ever had a brand new computer component be broken right out of the box.

2 out of 5 eggsLoad / slow / clunky

Pros: Its a hard drive. Though not usually a "pro", for WD not being DOA is welcomed change!

Cons: Load, clunky, kinda slow, seems to be a noticeable delay in read/ write performance very much like the RAID versions. Delivered and installed 2 new PCs with these drives, customer keeps asking, "What is that clacking noise..."

Other Thoughts: WD had production issues 4th quarter 2012/ 1st quarter 2013, although they won't admit it, tons of premature failures in these drives. These drives compared to those bought just 2 months are remarkably loud!, making all kinds of clunky noises. Not that its bad, just annoying. These drives sound very much like their RAID drives now, where the previous versions were nice & quite.

Yup, I'll keep hammering WD by telling the truth until they get their stuff together. Imagine, spending $1000 on a high end PC, then putting this turtle in it.

Oh and they still REFUSE to post a simple bootable O/S interdependent diagnostic ISO. I mean come on WD, everyone else does. What, you can't pay a worker in China an extra 50 cents to do this for you?

5 out of 5 eggsAs fast as you'd expect

Pros: Fast
Quiet
Low temps

Cons: None that I can think of

Other Thoughts: Its a fast hard drive just dont plan to see speed over 150mb/s
Definitely good as a secondary drive with a ssd for your primary, unfortunately i didn't think of that until after i built my system but will definitely be investing in a good ssd in the near future.

2 out of 5 eggsLoudest component in my PC

Pros: 1TB capacity, speed, price

Cons: Vibrates and buzzes to the point that it rattles my Vengeance C70 case. It is by far the loudest component in my PC that was built 6 weeks ago.

Other Thoughts: Lots of folks have had good luck with this drive - 2500+ reviews and 3x Customer Choice is a great track record. Not such luck for me, I got a bad one - it will have to go back to WD. I have never had a hard drive sound as bad as this one.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't put in a Raid

Pros: Fast, cheap

Cons: I bought two for my synology NAS after one caviar blue failed. The first disk failed in 70 hours. I put in the second I had bought as a cold spare and RMA'ed the first. 48 hour later the second one died too. Will have to rma it too. After I investigate I learned that this disk is not recommended for RAID use!! Should have checked first. Seems the manufacturer has disabled the TLER leading to read errors on raid controlers!! ARGGGGG!

Other Thoughts: Buy and RE4 instead
