5 out of 5 eggsWork Great

Pros: Placed two of these drives in an Acer Home Server and they have been working flawlessly. I would purchase them again.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Great product.

4 out of 5 eggsNot Compatible with HP Home Server

Pros: good drive

Cons: We bought it as a second drive for our HP Home Server. Only problem is that it isn't compatible with the already installed Seagate Drive, due to a higher power consumption. No where is that mentioned and we just found out for the HP Helpdesk after the system failed.

1 out of 5 eggsErrors within a month of use.

Pros: Price

Cons: Quality is bad!

Other Thoughts: This drive has started to give me errors within a month of purchase! Is it the green thing or what, I don't know. Was packed accurately, don't think NewEgg can be blaimed...
WD is usually not bad, but this model has problems, I guess, see other people opinions.
Sorry that I bought it.

1 out of 5 eggsDied after 2 months

Pros: price, I guess

Cons: The drive died after 2 months of use. And not a heavy use.

Other Thoughts: I typically use Seagate drives, this was my first Western Digital drive in a while. Started to give error after error.

Will be last.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS MODEL!

1 out of 5 eggsFailed after 4 months

Pros: Straightforward RMA procedure from Western Digital.

Cons: Drive started to report SMART errors after approximately four months of use in a computer powered on 24x7. Drive was set to spin down after 1 minute with no activity.

Requested warranty service from Western Digital. Replacement drive seems to work correctly, after 10 days of use.

Other Thoughts: Shipping costs to return failed drive are not paid by Western Digital.

2 out of 5 eggsRecovery Required

Pros: Low power and noise. Assumed it was good for an HTPC.

Cons: It sat in an HTPC that's on all the time. It's not even the drive that does the PVR work, but it stopped working and lost all my data. It spins up but shows up as a raw partition that needs formatting.

Other Thoughts: My other Western Digital drive on another computer also died a couple of months earlier with a firmware problem. It won't even appear in the bios. Suddenly I don't have a lot of faith in Western Digital.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Value

Pros: I always expect the best from Western Digital, and they always deliver. I'm using two of these in a new Windows Home Server. They are fast enough for my purposes (the only bottleneck is the router I'm using + the fact my network is only 802.11g...). And they are quiet. Time will tell how reliable they are, but I haven't been let down by WD yet.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Probably one of the best values you can get right now for $/GB.

2 out of 5 eggsFailed -AGAIN

Pros: Drive is fast, runs really quite and cool.

Cons: This is the third out of four WD Green Drives that I have had fail on me. The drive will not spin at all, almost like there is no power to the drive. I have tried these drives in other computers with no luck. I HAVE LOST 3.5TBs of data because of these useless drives.

4 out of 5 eggsdecent price...horrible linux support...UNLESS! read on...

Pros: Cost is massively affordable.

Cons: Western Digital outright refuses to support linux for their drives. You can find this as quoted from their support line all across the web. If you use these disks in linux, you will have problems because they have a 8s idle timer set. This means, the drives park the heads after 8s. Most distros don't touch the disk this often, so this can cause massive temproray system hangs. However, if you use this util: http://www.synology.com/support/faq_show.php?lang=enu&q_id=407

You can correct the problem by disabling the 'green' feature of the drives.

Other Thoughts: ho hum..
