5 out of 5 eggsStill Very Good

Pros: Will remain a very good product for many years..especially until Intel has the guts to fully implement SATA 3.0 Technology.

Cons: We need a version like the Seagate XT

5 out of 5 eggsExactly what I expected

Pros: I was using an older 7200 RPM WD HD, and I am happy with the faster boot times, and data transfers with this drive. Any performance increase is great for me, even if it's not that much. This drive has been good to me thus far.

Cons: Hard drive makes noticeable sound when it is running at full, but I don't really notice with all of my other fans running.

Other Thoughts: Just waiting on SSD prices to go down.

5 out of 5 eggsQuick and quiet

Pros: Faster the most

Cons: Little pricey

Other Thoughts: It's faster than the 1TB's I'd been using on a single drive sys. Now I use the raptor as the OS drive and the 1TB as the storage. Much quicker all the way around. It's no ssd but I'm no millionaire either.

4 out of 5 eggsMissed the Shell Shocker

Pros: Great drive, a little loud but does everything as advertised.

Cons: Missed the Shell Shocker deal by a couple weeks... spent an extra $50 :(

With heavy use you can really hear this thing spin, even above my Antec 900 jet exhaust sound...

5 out of 5 eggsGreat HD

Pros: Great drive. Got it on the one day sale 139 otd. I have used these drives for a long time and they have always been good for me.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: They were the best for gaming, but now ssd are where its at. However, this 10k speed drive is still p$mp. Size and speed per dollar, it is still great.

3 out of 5 eggsGood but not great...

Pros: Quiet
Low Power Consumption

Cons: Really not that much faster

Other Thoughts: I bought a couple of these to improve boot and program launch speed. When comparing to several older and much less expensive drives of greater capacity, I was really surprised and disappointed to see that the improvement in actual boot and program launch times was very small. The newer 500GB 7200 RPM drives as well as 1TB drives I previously used booted and launched at about the same speeds, and file transfers, although faster, were really not blazing fast. I used HDTune to measure the actual burst and average transfer rates, latency, and found that these Velociraptors do not measure too much better.

When installed in a 6 year old Dell Pentium 4 to replace an old 160 GB drive, the speedup was much, much better. Maybe this drive makes sense for people looking to upgrade an old machine, but I would never use these on later vintage machines like my QX9650 quadcore given the small speed improvement and relatively high cost per gigabyte.

1 out of 5 eggsPeople still buy these?

Pros: Wait... people are still actually buying these?
I put two of these in stripe RAID and they still don't perform even close to an SSD Drive. Not in I/O performance or even sustained read speeds.

Cons: Extremely slow in comparison to SSD drives, and extremely overpriced in comparison to 7200 RPM drives.

My 1.5 TB 7200 RPM drive maintains nearly 100mb/sec read speeds over the vast majority of the drive. This 10k doesn't really beat it by much, and costs a heck of a lot more.

Other Thoughts: Waste of money

2 out of 5 eggsDIDN"T LAST LONG

Pros: Quite and fast

Cons: For a 5 year warranty it ain't worth it because mine died in less than a year with no warning at all. I just went to boot up like normal in the morning and no drive detected.

WD sent me a new one in two days

Other Thoughts: If you want a good drive and it has a 5 year warranty then you'd think it must be a good drive because it has a long warranty, well think again on this drive. for the money you might as well get a solid state drive.
