5 out of 5 eggsWD Black 500GB SATA 3.0 HDD

Pros: Great price, works great.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I bought this to upgrade my old desktop that I have given to my little brother that supported only SATA 1.0 and if he every gets a new computer this drive will still be a great drive to put into any new computer.

5 out of 5 eggsWD Black 500GB - WOW

Pros: Easily recognized by XP Pro. Fast, Quite, 32MB buffer is great benefit

Cons: None to date

Other Thoughts: I replaced a hard drive of comparable size (not a WD) that failed after 18 months of fairly average service. Luckily, had complete image of drive and was able to reinstall (it went smooth but not entirely 100% error free). This drive appears to be faster as a result of the 32MB buffer. I was going to use it to rebuild an older computer, but it came in real handy when the other drive failed. Will be buying from Newegg – quick shipping and competitive pricing.

3 out of 5 eggsWD 500gig

Pros: WD is a great brand for HD's as thats all I use for my servers. Picked up 2x black edition for game play in a Raid 0.

First drive completed 48hour strand tests like the champ it should.

Cons: 2nd hard drive was DOA. Tried with different arrays to verify. Linux, nvidia, AMD proprietary tests concluded that it was drive controller that's bad and reported spindle errors.

Awaiting NewEgg RMA return.

Other Thoughts: Looks like reviews from other that the most recent batch is NOT meeting OUR expectations of WD. OR WD lowered their product testing standard... if that's the case (and I doubt it) get ready for a heap of failed drives.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Drive:

Pros: I have four of these in my new multimedia build and they are super quiet and reliable. I have used many of these drives in my home builds and never had a problem. They are just rock solid. You can.t go wrong with Western Digital and Newegg.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I purchased all the parts for my recent build from newegg and they came through as always. You just can't beat newegg for reliability, price, and customer support. They are a top shelf company.

5 out of 5 eggsWD Black Drives Rocks!

Pros: Nothing better for the price, works like you'd expect from WD. I've purchased 7 drives, all WD, from Newegg this year and haven't had any problems with any of them being shipped UPS. Can't hear a sound from it in my NZXT M59 case and noticeably quicker then the blue series. According to HD Tune Pro, temp has never exceeded 32c with a Enermax 120mm 17 dBA 44 CFM as a front intake fan even when passing stability testing with Prime95 for 12 hours at room temp of just over 80f. Ive been a VERY happy Newegg customer for 5 years now with no RMA's except to upgrade to a better keyboard, and that includes building 5 complete PC systems all purchased here at the Egg!

Cons: None

1 out of 5 eggsbad sectors and clusters

Pros: dunno know

Cons: I bought this harddrive just 1 week ago and now i am suffering some problems.

After I downloaded a few files(some <100m and 1 or 2 >4GB) and try to run or copy these files, i hit the error msg "the request could not be performed because of an i/o device error". I have the serial number but am running CHKDSK now so if you need it i will give you.

The CHKDSK shows some msgs like
"windows replaced bad clusters in file xxxx" and stuck.
